What makes the Red Wing's organization worth taking less money
Booster313 replied to RedWingsLaw's topic in General
The truth is we can all speculate but none of us can possibly know. I would say that it starts with Mr. I all the way down though. -
If anyone is interested I am part of a yahoo fantasy league with a 50 dollar buy in. The prizes are paid to first second and third place. It's an IDP league so you will have to select your defensive players. The live draft is set for tomorrow at 6:45pm. PM me if your interested in playing. Thanks!

That was slightly before my time on the LGW boards! LOL

That's true! Let's do that!!!

I will weigh in quickly...I think that Ozzie will do just fine this year and based on our cap situation, barring a major trade he has to. Make no mistake the Red Wings are confident in his abilities. Is Chris Osgood a top five goalie in this league, probably not, but with the limited number of shots the Wings give up coupled with puck possession style of play, Ozzie has seemed to thrive. I have no doubt he will continue to do so. As for Howard, I am not so sure the Red Wings brass are all that confident in his abilities anymore. I agree that it's still his job to loose but I think this is basically his last year to do something about it. We brought two possible number one goalies into the system this year in signing of the swedish goalie (name?!) and the first round drafting of Thomas McCollum. Teams to beat will be the Sharks, Calgary, and Dallas.

We're not exempt from rude or hateful comments. Were you around for the goalie wars of 08 and 07?

Wow they are bitter?!

Holland: "I don't expect to hear from McCarty until Sept"

I can understand that but I guess I am trying to think of what's good for D-mac. For what it's worth I think he'll end up here when it's all said and done. -
That's so cool, can anyone post some video of Cheli singing? Glad to hear that he is coming back!
-
I haven't heard anything on this either Loo. That is an awesome lineup! I hope Dom comes and plays a few charity games here.

That would be all well and good if he had 10 years left to play. He needs to make money now. And what about what Detroit owes him? Not this year but what about the 10 good years he played here and all he gave us in enjoyment. By your admission you watch hockey partly because of D-mac. -
For me it was a combination of things. I remember the first time I ever really sat down and watched Hockey was the 95 finals, so probably the media buzz at the time. The next year I spent some time with my brother watching games here and there as the Wings marched to a 62 win season. I remember watching the Wings vs. Av's series and being disappointed when we were elminated but it was great hockey. My friend Chris has always played hockey and was a big Wings fan so as my interest started to raise a little bit, we began watching hockey, the 96-97 season is what made me a fan for life. The rest they say is history!

Nope it's a Michigan thing too.... Seriously though, Would you go to work tomorrow if they cut your pay by about 80%???? Kenny and D-Mac have an understanding. Why would you judge the guy for trying to better his life. He's not turing up his nose at the city or the Red Wings. (If Kenny felt that way he wouldn't have an offer on the table for him.) He is just trying to secure his future. He made a lot of mistakes and now he is trying to fix them. He owes a few million dollars. This is a guy who sold his 97 and 98 championship rings. It's easy for people to judge someone they don't know. -
That is great! Shanny isn't shy I guess!

No but you can in the AHL. Two-Way Contract: Has two different salary structures. The league min if the player is in the NHL all year is 575k. If Darren were to spend the whole season in GR, he would only be paid 100k. If he spends time in both leagues he would get a prorated salary based on days spent in each league. A one way contract is guaranteed money regardless of where he play's. Example would be Cujo's stint in the minors. He was being paid 8million a year to play for the Griffins. -

You can't fault Darren for wanting to see what else is out there. Darren really needs the money. And yes it's his fault because they were his demons to battle. Trust me when I say, this is where Darren wants to play and he's not turning his nose at the team that made his career and then gave him a chance to revive it, but when you look at his financial situation if someone will guarantee him 575k vs. 100k that's almost six times the salary. To put it into perspective, I love the company I work for and my job, but if someone was offering me six times what I make, I'd have to move on as well. -
On a side note...Do the Wings have the defensive core in place long term to fill the hole that we'll have when Lidstrom finally does retire?
-
I hope that he changes his mind before that beginning of the season. He will probably regret this decision later in life.
-
I am looking forward to having that little LGW Championship Banner next to my name!
-
I am worried that like most years we won't get most of training camp on TV
-
Manny isn't a bad guy because he wasn't good enough to play on the Wings. I wish him the best. He gave us a lot of good years and he's not a terrible goalie. Just an average one.

I resent that noted sarcasim. I am a banker and do quite well at it, Seriously there is more than meets the eye here. I am willing to bet that there is some discord at home with his parents.

LMAO Someone said: Don't throw it away...just name it Marian!

I am looking forward to seeing Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Hossa on the same forward line at some point.
