I usually don't post in the GDT but I will today. I am going to say 3-0 Wings. (I need a shutout from Dom for my fantasy team.) LOL

I don't know who said it or when but someone posted that the bottom line is if Mac isn't better or equal to one of our roster spots in some way shape or form he won't make the team. If he is he will. No one is saying he should be handed a roster spot, he is only being given the opportunity to earn one. If Gordie Howe decided tomorrow he wanted to come out of retirement and could proved that he would be as good or better than one of the players on the roster then so be it. If Mac were simply being handed a spot he wouldn't be starting in Flint.

I think it depends entirely on how he finishes his career. I do think he deserves it. The real question is does Ozzie get his number retired???

I'd gladly take a healthy and NHL ready McCarty over Dallas Drake...IF McCarty can do what he needs to do....and at this point it's a big IF. But I am always optimistic so we shall see.

I am not taking anything away from Holland, obviously he has done a great job, but I think that Mr. I's commitment to winning prior to the salary cap created the culture that the Wings have had for the last 10-15 years or so, and that culture is what makes Detroit such a desirable place to play for players, that and the loyalty that the team has shown to past players, those who retired with the team, left because of injury, or simply needed to revive their career. Hockeytown is about more than the number of tickets we sell, it's a lifestyle.

I'm not saying he's not worth it but what kind of message does that send to Lids and Dats if Z gets more money? To me they are all equally important, actually Lids if probably the most important of the three.
-
If I were an NHL player I would take any stupid contract the team would be willing to pay me. Worst case senario, the Caps continue to suck, AO has a fall out with the owner and demands to be traded, the caps are forced to pay part of his ridiclous contract to unload him.

Very true...but if there's a will there is a way.
-
That was my point...if Mccarty can get into game shape...nothing.
-
My guess is Z 7yrs for 6.7 Million....if Z pushes the issue then he'll get 7 to 7.5. He won't and shouldn't make more than the best defensemen in the league makes. We have asked him his last two contracts to take less than market value. I know Z is the future and an amazing player but as long as Lids is on the team and still playing like the best in the league he should be our highest paid player.

LOL P.S. You need to change your signature...the future is here!

I am suprised your quick to judge a players ability to come back. Many people wrote Ozzie off in the late 90's and they would have been half right, but he was able to work hard, fix his short comings, improve on his strengthes and look what he's been able to accomplish! IF Darren can get back to game shape he certainly can do no worse than Drake or Downey (not that their playing poorly mind you). The upside? Well he would bring more fan support, and it would be a good thing for someone who's fallen on hard times and given his best years to this team.

Best tandem ever: without a doubt! As far as splitting time in the playoffs, it could be done but I don't think it will happen unless one goalie starts playing poorly and the other comes in hot. As far as a rotation, it would be a first and interesting. I suspect that if one goalie is clearly outplaying the other like at the beginning of the season that goaltender will start the post season. If all things are equal however, Dom will be the starter for a number of reasons, one this is more than likely his last season to win a cup, Ozzie hopefully will have several more as a Wing. Second, Dom has bonuses riding on how many rounds he wins in the playoffs. If Dom lost the job by himself then fine but the Wings taking the opportunity from him to earn his money if he is playing like he should doesn't sound like a Mike Illitch move to me.

LMAO!!!

That sounds like a good thing for the Ducks and a bad thing for the Wings
-
Because if I'm killing a penalty and I have the choice of taking a face off or giving up a goal the f*#king puck is going to the other end of the rink!
-
It's a big gamble I would only do it if the money were right. Correct me if I'm wrong but if a player is on IR doesn't his salary not count against the cap?

Mikeal = DIEHARD

Not entirely true. One of the features of the new RBK NHL jersey is a four-way stretch mesh. That's an exclusive feature to the authentic jersey's. However the replica jersey's feature similar technology, just a cheaper version that is only two-way stretch.

?! Probert...ok....Kocur....you have a point, but Grimson?! Your reaching with that one. Darren could scrap with the best of them and, he could play 10-15minutes a night. No he didn't have the best offensive touch but he was a hell of a checker.

Hasek's incentives are based on rounds of the playoffs as last season. It's a little early to write the Wings off for a Stanley Cup run.

I don't hate the Avalanche, I am thankful for all the great games as a result of the rivalry. Who would GI Joe fight if there were no Cobra? He-man with no Skelator? Batman with no Joker? Superman with no Lex Luthor? The Avalanche were the Red Wings archrival through the mid to late ninties and even into the new Millenium. Sure some of that competition has died. The New NHL, players have retired or moved on. I for one miss that. The Wings need another enemy like the Avalanche. All teams need that. It's good for the game and it's a big part of the reason why I am as big a Wings fan as I am today. Merry Christmas to all! P.S. Another post season meeting between these two teams would do wonders to renew the rivalry!

Unfortunatly I think 7.6 would be him being a nice guy. I'd like him at 5 or 6 as much as the next guy but if he hit free agency someone would easily offer him 8 or more. That being said, Nick won't leave and his will be the next number retired in D-Town.

I don't know if anyone else is as pumped about this as I am but I think this is probably the single greatest enhancement to the hockey television experience in recent memory. It reminds me of the first time I saw the Matrix and was blown away. TWO THUMBS WAY UP!!!

Homer, Draper and Maltby are all still out. Drapes is skating and should be back soon. Homer could be available next week although he hasn't skated yet.
