I came across these aticles and thought it was nice to see something positive in writing about Dom that was from an unbiased source. This just proves that we as fans make more of the goaltending issue than the Wings do. It's ok to have a favorite (I do ) It's also ok to get mad at a goalie when they let in a bad goal. ( I do that too) The bottom line is they are a team, you should want them both to do well. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...047/1048/SPORTS 2. Do the Red Wings have a goalie controversy on their hands? No. None. Zero. Absolutely not. Is that clear enough? This scenario reminds me of the Red Wings two years ago. Manny Legace was setting records in the early portion of the season, then got badly outplayed against Edmonton and had a hard time finding a job in hockey the next season. Hasek is the money goaltender and will be the starter in the playoffs assuming he's healthy. There's no debate. What this does, however do I hope, is wake up the numb-skull Wings fans to the fact that Chris Osgood is and always has been a good goaltender. One writer in Toronto wrote that the Wings won the 1998 cup DESPITE Osgood's play. Please. I'm not saying that Ozzie was a Vezina candidate, but he never got the credit he deserved. I've always felt that Mike Vernon was given too much credit for the '97 Cup and Ozzie was given too little for '98. He's a very good goaltender. But Hasek is still the man. And for those of you who think Hasek is a cancer and not a team player, or that he's not humble, this is one of many times in his career when he has acknowledged his less than stellar play and each time he has made good on his promise. http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/2007/11...rt-tuesday.html Dom says he can get better... if they let him "I know I haven't played well, but I feel very good in practice and I feel healthy and that's most important right now," said Hasek. "I was in at the beginning of the year and I didn't play well. Ozzie played great game a few times, most of the time. Right now, I believe when I get back I can play on the highest level again. Then I can play more games in a row, then I will feel even better. ... I have no problem with it. "Of course I'll be glad to play more games in a row. It makes it easier for me. But this is the way it is." Just some need food for thought, and I'm sure so fuel for the fire as well. P.S. Just thought this warrented a new thread so it wasn't lost on page 137 of the "Dom Bashers" topic. Merge if you like.

It's interesting that you mention Yzerman speaking up during the Canucks series. Do you remember what he said? After the Wings went down 0-2 and Dom had let in what some would call a couple of questionable goals, Steve Yzerman all but guaranteed a win and said that before this series was over that everyone would know what a world class goalie Dom is.
-
It's not a new idea by any means but I am still from the camp that would like to see Fedorov finish his career as a Wing. On the goalie front next year I'd like to see Ozzie, Bryz, or Howard performance permitting. Of course if Dom can finsh this year in form and he wants to give it a go next year I am ok with that too.
-
I agree with you...Lidstrom's goal from center ice seemed to be the turning point of that series, but Dom did come up with some remarklable performances from that point on.
-
Kozlov was an underachiever at the time, there is no way that Kenny could have known he would turn around his career. I won't say that Ozzie would or wouldn't have won the cup in 02 or beyond. There is no way that any of us could know. I do know that Ozzie had the opporunity in 99, 00, and 01 and couldn't seem to get us there. Not that he lost those series by himself but he wasn't the difference either. Isn't that what you want from a playoff goalie??? In Dom's two post seasons with us he has stolen games we shouldn't have won. Ozzie is having a hell of a year and if he's the better goalie come playoff time then so be it. Whatever gives us the best chance to win...I like Ozzie he has been loyal and he's been great at times but Dom till this year has been the better and more consistant goalie. P.S. Sorry about the ******* thing, it was a poor attempt at sarcasim and classless on my part....debate on.

I know you've taken your shots at Dom recently and that's fine. But taking a shot at Stevie, even in jest is a major rule violation for anyone who calls themselves a Wing's Fan. If Stevie wanted to play another 100 games and he was the worst player on the ice, he's earned that right. He doesn't have to prove anything. He already has. That being said I don't think he should or would come back and play a game. I would only want him to comeback if it were for real.

I disagree with pretty much everything you just said. I've met Dom at least half a dozen times and each time he was gracious enough to spend 10minutes or so conversing with me. Even recalling details from our previous conversations. He was one of the most approachable Wings at training camp this past year, spending 30-45min in the lobby of his hotel greeting fans, taking pictures and signing autographs. (On a side note most of the Wings were very accommodating at camp this year, Hank was probably the least friendly. He was polite but he did everything he could to avoid as many fans as possible.) As far as Dom's comeback season, it was certainly an uncomfortable situation for all involved. Management wasn't impressed with Cujo's first playoff run and planned on moving him. It didn't work out, Dom inured his groin and the rest is history. This is the reason I believe most people dislike Dom. What people fail to realize is that Dom voluntarily gave back over half of the money he was entitled to that year (3million plus dollars). He is the only player in professional sports history to do such a thing. You do not have to forfeit your contract due to an injury and if you ask Kenny that is the main reason he was invited back last year. Certainly Dom has been temperamental in the past during his career, but all goalies are. You have to be a little off to want that kind of pressure. Some of teammates loves his intensity others were put off by it, but one thing that will all say is he is a competitor to the end and he wants to win... So to Puckaloo's point if you want to debate his on ice play this year, your entitled. He hasn't played to his potential but please leave his personal life and the relationship he has with his teammates and how much of a "cancer" he is to the team out of it. Kenny and Mr. I wouldn't continue to invite him back if he were so destructive to the team. In closing maybe your poor experience in meeting Dom is simply because your an ******* and he could tell so he reacted negatively. Even the nicest most well liked person on earth has people they are not compatible with.

Dom gets the start tonight.
-
I agree because even though I love Dom to this point he does not belong on the Allstar ballot. Give him a month!
-
I wasn't saying they should or shouldn't be there I was just saying that the league tends to send them to the games because of their names.
-
I think Ozzy deserves an Allstar slot, however I just want to point out that Hasek's numbers to this point last year were similar and he wasn't invited to the Allstar game. The league seems to favor Lunongo, Kipper, Miller, etc. Ozzy will get shafted.
-
Thank God, Praise the lord....I can sleep tonight.
-
I saw him play in GR...he looked impressive. But all of our goalies did in the scrimage games.
-
Like it or not Dominik Hasek is the second best goalie to ever wear a Wings Jersey. You can mention his name in the same sentence as Patrick Roy and Martin Broduer. He is one of the greatest of our time. He may have slowed down or he may be having a slump but at least give him credit where credit is due. ALL great goaltenders have had subpar years and if Dom has waited until 42 years old to have his then so be it. Babcock will make the right decision and if necessary Ozzy will get the starts when the real season begins, but Hasek has to be allowed to try and work through this. His resume' has earned him that.
-
Nice looks like the Wings will be well represented in the allstar game this year. It also looks like he majority knows that Dom is an allstar caliber goalie and he will turn it around. Kipper's stats are worse than Dom's this year...I am disappointed not to see Ozzy getting any votes though.

I'm not sure about where you can get it...Try Youtube.

Many of us on LGW thought that the Wings would be aquiring Forsberg or picking up Fedorov at the trade deadline, with Foresberg all but retired and the Blue Jackets looking like they may actually be in the playoff hunt, what will the Red Wings do with the extra 4-5 million this year. Could this be the first time we don't spend to the cap? Thoughts?
-
Agreed you won't catch me bashing Ozzy just defending Dom 100%.
-
No I can't honestly say that...but I believe that he will be before the season is up. Nothing against Ozzy but I've seen the both at their best and when Dom is at his best I'll take him over any current goalie in the league. Puck, Your my girl! We Dom supporters have to stick together!

Rabid, I agree with you on the five hole issue. It is uncharatristic of Dom not to stack the pads on a breakaway goal. That being said I'm not certain that it's due in injury. Dom is not shy on telling the team that he can't play due to injury. I think someone said once that he is like a Ferrari he needs to be in perfect running condition in order to perform to his utmost ability. Not like a chevy you can kick the tires on everyone once in a while and run for 100k miles. Dom has a lot of pride and if he's not 100% he's not going to play and risk humilating himself. On a side note I've met him half a dozen times and talked to him on each occasion for a few minutes. I agree with you 100%. Dom is a great competitor. He is a champion and he will find a way to win. I have the utmost respect for him as a man and as a player.

I've had some more time to reflect on the past two games for Dom. Out of the 8 supposed bad goals only 4 were truly bad. One last night was a third attempt on a shot, The previous night he let in a 5 on 3 scrum goal and a 5 on 4 scrum goal, he also let in a roofed shot that knocked the water bottle off the net. Now lets take a look at the four bad goals... 3 were breakaways and one was a turn over that resulted in a chicago player wide open in front of his net. I don't care how many shots you don't give up, when the other team has 4 chances to be one on one with your goalie that's a defensive breakdown. Osgood has yet to face one breakaway this season. My point is lets not give on Dom just yet. Yes his play is off and I'm sure he would have liked to have a few of those back, but if you look at it subjectivly the situation isn't quite as dire as it looks. Much of this is fueled by Ozzy's great play to this point and the fact that the grass is always greener on the otherside when it comes to goaltending in Detroit. Dom will be fine, Ozzy will be fine...the team will be fine.
-
Then I'm not sure how much hockey you watched last year, or if you caught any Senators games the year prior before the injury that is. Of course your entitled to your opinion.
-
Munkee, it wasn't a real Dom bashing post. It was a sarcastic attempt at putting all the Hasek haters in their place. That being said everyone is entitled to their opinion I just don't know how many times Dom has to prove everyone wrong before he is allowed to have a few bad games. It seems for Dom, and all Detroit goalies for that matter your only as good as your last game. Puck, Thanks for the support and I agree with you 100% however I just feel like Dom needs to play through this to get his game back. Give him a few starts in a row. Let him see some shots and get his timing back.
-
I agree I would feel better if Dom had at least one game this year that I felt is of his caliber. To this point he has had okay games and bad games, but not great games. I still think Dom will come around, he has way too much pride to not live up to his name, if I know Dom he will be at the rink first thing in the morning tomorrow taking shots from someone.

Sounds familier....I heard the same thing last year.
