Ok so I don't get excited about Eklunds rumors because very often they don't come true, however this one at least got my gears turning. Ek says that the Pens are possibly looking to shop Malkin for a first line D. What if we trade Kronwall and some picks to the Pens for Malkin and use the extra cap space to sign Markov or Schneider as well as Bert and Dom. Just a thought...

You have to take gambles to get good deals sometimes. Sure a 3-4 deal may be a bust, but if you sign him to a one year deal and he plays awesome well then the price goes way up next year. You have to measure risk vs. reward. Also if his back is a huge concern and it prevents him from playing, sure you still have to honor his contract but then it doesn't count against the cap.

Not worried at the moment. It would be nice to get three or four of our UFA's back. and I believe we will see at least two for sure. However as history has shown us, Mr I and company will always do whatever it takes to put a competitive team on the ice, and that hasn't changed due to a salary cap. Even if all four went elsewhere they would still get something done on the UFA market to ensure we would at least be able to compete for the cup.

So the price on Dom is a little higher than what I expexcted to pay, but I am not disappointed. Last year Dom played for us for next to nothing, he wanted a chance to prove himself and he did that, not to mention he freely gave back 3 million dollars to the Wings in 04. Dom has been more than fair on the give and take and his salary demands are not out of line for a goalie that had the season he just had. There are a few teams out there that if Hasek hit the free agency market might pay a bit more for him, and if you knock the injuries off his resume' or 5 years of his age he commandsat least 5 or 6 million per year on the free agency market.

Yes we would have, we'd buy out lang, let Dat's go else where for his 6.7 million. If Stevie was still playing like 1998 we'd find a way to keep him...but the realiity of it is, we wouldn't have to Stevie would take a paycut to make sure we could afford him and whatever else we needed to compete for the cup.

I know this is off topic but is anyone the least bit concerned that Bert's name wasn't mentioned as having a meeting scheduled in either the Freep nor the the Detnews story. I know they said something about it in the busy weekend story but has something changed since that was written? I am probably just being paranoid but I'd like to see Bert back next year.

For me this is bitter sweet. I support all the players on the team and over the years I've grown fond of Langer. That being said, he never lived up to the hype here in Detroit. I remember how badly Kenny wanted him and how hard he worked to get the deal done. I met Lang he was an incredibly nice guy, quiet but nice. I wish him the best of luck and I hope he finds his scoring touch again somewhere this season. As a business decision this was the right move.

Schneider>Markov Markov's are easier to replace...Scheider's are few and far between

I think Bertuzzi will be coming back, if we can work out a contract where most of the money is dependent on him staying healthy. (Does anyone know the rules on incentive laden contracts per the CBA? I know there were some rules effecting who could or couldn't have bonuses attached to their contracts.) As far as free agency Smyth would be my first choice, but that will depend on two things. 1. How much the cap goes up and 2. How much of a paycut Smyth is willing to take.

I don't see this happening, taking that job would require a tremendous amount of work on Scotty's part. At 73 years old I think he would rather take his generous paycheck and keep is cushy job of pro-scout. I know Scotty earned it but seriously how cool would that be to be paid to watch hockey!?
