    Holland: Hasek coming back

Icemunkee, Dom called me and said he was very happy to have earned yours as well as many other Detroit fans this year. He was happy to know that there will be no more arguments between us this year. He's looking forward to continuing to impress you this season. Oh and last but not least he's going for a 10 and 1 playoff series win record after this coming season.

    Holland: Hasek coming back

This is awesome!!! He has one of the NHL's elite and by far the best goalie available at any price. The only other goalie that comes close is Giggy but he will earn more than 6mil per. Guess Ek was wrong again! Like Dom would ever want to play for the lighting, or handicap the Wings chances of aquiring the necessary pieces to compete for the cup by demanding 5.5mil.

    Lang

Homer, Said who would most likely be back? Lang? Where did you read that?
  5. Booster313

    Lang

I like Lang I really do, just not at 3.9 mill per. That's money better spent else where, now if he wanted to come back for say 1.5-2.0 I'd be happy to have him. That being said, I don't expect him back, someone will offer him more money and although I'm sure he likes the team, he and Bab's didn't see eye to eye.

Wings GM to meet Schneider's agent

Holland probably knew well before we did about Hasek last year. At least that's the impression I've gotten from all the quotes. Holland probably has a good idea about all our free agents already.

Balsillie building arena in Cambridge ?

Legionnaire, I feel for you, and I admire your passion. Given time I think a team could work in Nashville. It's a great city, I have attended many Wings games there and although a few fans took it a bit far, (one threw a wet paper towel at a friend of mine during a game) most were accommodating to the extent that I would expect them to be. I hope for your sake that they are able to up average attendance I don't know what I would do if the Wings were to leave Detroit.

    Latest Fix the NHL article

I don't agree with the nets or the sticks, what I would really like to see is olympic size ice, an extra 10 feet on either side of the area would do wonders for all that neutral zone trapping that goes on. It would make 5-5 hockey look like 4-4!

    Kenny's plans

Well you won't get any argments from me about Sergi, I agree and I think he is exactly the type of player Kenny would pick up at the trade deadline, however if you want other 2-way forwards I would argue that Dats and Z are both premier 2-way forwards. Are they going to be as good as Feds, only time will tell.

Some of our top moments from 2007 playoffs

3.Datsyuk deeking Nabby at center ice. 2. Any of the many miraculous saves Dom made, pick one. 1. Lang Scoring against the Flames/Sharks with 3min to late in the third to send the game to OT!! Not the biggest Lang fan but those were both huge goals!!! Lidstrom's save was a good one. Forgot about that!!!

    Hockey Season is Over

    Thanks SWF, no hard feelings.

    Kenny's plans

That sounds about right. I too would hope for a 91reunion at the trade deadline!

    Hockey Season is Over

SWF, The post was meant in good fun, part of the enjoyment of any sport is a little friendly competition. I can take my licks and you'll never hear me complain about so good natured sportsmanship. Of course I believe Wings fans are the greatest in the world...and I would expect every Duck fan to feel the same. I didn't say anything mean or hurtful to anymore, I just pointed out what the original poster already said, and told everyone what I believe, that there truly is no end to the season for me and many other Wings fans. Maturity and class play no part here...to me an immature or class-less fan is the one who cheers when a player is injured no matter what team he plays for. Thanks for sticking up for me!!! As you can see from my above post we were on the same page. Touche'

    Hockey Season is Over

This must be the difference in a Red Wings fan and a Ducks fan. For the ducks the season ends in June. For the Red Wings fan hockey season is year round it just has stages...Training Camp season, preseason, regular season, PLAYOFFS!!!, who's coming back season, draft season, and free agency season!

Draft Day is Friday, June 22nd

Thanks but I can't take credit....offsides hooked it up! I like the Tattoo, I've often thought if I were to get a tattoo it would have to be something I'd love forever...like the Wings! That was the intent I was just poking fun. I know NOTHING about amateur hockey except the guys in our system, the only other player I heard buzz on before he came up was Sid the Kid. Hockey is different than other sports, The pro league is barely popular enough to garner media attention let alone the college and minor league teams. We live in one of the biggest Hockey markets in the US and unless the guy is coming from the CCHA chances are we've never seen him or even heard of him. It's times like this I wish I lived in Canada.

the wings should not go after smyth

Smyth would be a welcome addition to any team including this one. and 5 years ago he would have been coming here no question. If Kenny can get it done I would be astounded, that being said I just don't see it happening. Kenny and co's post salary cap history would show that the Wings no longer go after the big name players look at Luongo, Guerin, Thachuk, Smyth the last time he was available, no they prefer to let these teir 1 players get signed to their huge contracts, or watch teams trade away 20 draft pics and 3 prospects. Instead they wait and look for the bargains, Hasek, Markov, Johnson, (although he didn't play) Calder, (arguably not the best bargain) and finally Bertuzzi. I would love to have Smyth but if recent history is any indicator it's not in the cards for us.

Freep: Hasek decision to come by Wed.

Does a little happy dance!!! This is great, I am counting on a return.

    Amusing Ray Emery article...

I would tend to disagree only because Hasek and Roy couldn't have more different playing styles.

    Holland making Schneider a priority

You're right, we all do know how good Lidstrom is, and so does the rest of the NHL. So in order to shut down our PP all you have to do is lay down in front of Nik's blasts from the point, and keep someone in the shooting lane to block passes in front of the net. This forces us to cycle down low and take bad angle shots that Jiggy can stop all day. Having Schneider gives us to options from the point and it causes openings down low as well. Trust me they wouldn't leave Matthew open like they did Sammy. Schneider stays healthy and we win the cup this year, period.

    Holland making Schneider a priority

This is bitter sweet news. If forced to make a choice however Schneider is the obvious choice. We have 3 defensemen in the system who could successfully adapt Markov's style, Lilija, Kronwall, and Quincey. No one in our system (Lidstrom aside) has the rocket from the point that Schneider has. Besides obviously Holland and co believe that Kronwall is something special. If he steps up the way he's supposed to we may all not miss Markov at all.

    Nicklas Lidstrom

    Nicklas Lidstrom

I understand and I guess I shouldn't put down your thread, if you want to talk about it and can find others to participate then it's a valid topic. To answer your question, I think anyone who has been a Red Wings fan for any length of time, including myself would simply think that the reasons why are obvious, his play speaks for it's self, he has been loyal to this team and this city and he is the longest serving current member of the roster. It was a natural choice. The thing about the Wings is they have many players that could serve a captain on other teams. That is a testament to this city and this team.

    Nicklas Lidstrom

I agree! Raasc, We're not saying your a Lidstrom hater, I think I speak for Professor Lidstrom when I say that it's just a pointless thread, I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone to counter the topic. It's one of those questions that really only requires an all capital YES as a response, there for it doesn't make for such an interesting thread. The topic of a thread should spark a conversation, this seems to be a yes or no question and in this case just yes.

Is Ray Emery the Next Cam Ward?

A lot of great thoughts, first let me comment on Ray Emrey/Cam Ward. I think they are similar, they are both good goalies that benefited from being on the right team at the right time. I think they will both have solid careers, I don't however feel either one will add their names to the short list of NHL elite netminders. As far as Icemunkees comments regarding Cam Ward stinking it up and Ray Emrey having a great season...what I took from that is they both had all right years this year, Cam ward had a hot post season last year then fizzled the following year. Ray Emrey has an allright season this year and has had a hot post season thus far, The question posed is will Rayzer fizzle the way Cam did. I think so. As far as Dom's style and the comparisons to Rayzer, I suppose it would make since although I can't say as I've noticed, I guess I will have to pay closer attention. That being said, I love Dom's style for the very same reason's Munkee does. However I agree with ZDH that it can't and shouldn't be taught. Dom is a rare breed. A product of his uncanny speed, flexability, and determination. If there ever were to be another "Hasek" style player it would just have to happen. If I recall the first time most of the NHL saw Hasek play they thought he was terrible, out of position, flopping about, going down too quickly. One of the reasons it's worked so well for Hasek is over the years he has gotten into many shooters heads and they tend to rush the shots, he's counting on that.
