There, I fixed it for you, NBA is actually on the decline in terms of popularity and the NHL is on the rise... we are very comparable to the NBA... NFL and MLB are in another league.

In a later post on the first page I admitted that the title was meant to be polarizing, not necessarily a reflection of the tone of the OP.

To clarify, I don't question said negative posters "fandom". They take the time to be here and watch the games so they must be fans. And everyone is entitled to their opinion on this or any other topic. I guess it does boil down to the sky is falling mentality. I see enough of that on the news everyday. There aren't a lot of things we can count on these days, I guess I have always considered the Wings something I can count on. For my entire hockey watching life they have been consistently competitive and entertaining.

I agree with you GMR, as I stated the team should be critized but by reading the topics you would think that we hadn't won a game in 3 seasons. I guess I would prefer a bit of logic and fair analysis as opposed to extremes, that being said you are correct the differing opinions do entertain, but the overwhelming negativity also frustrates me so I thought I should add some positive counter point, I in no way doubt anyones claim of being a fan as that's their personal decision, I am guilty of titling my thread with a polarizing title to garner attention. As for DRWrus, that's unfortunate, it would be like going to Australia to whale watch and not seeing one, it seems you just had some bad luck as the Red Wings winning percentage is better than any other NHL team the last 15+ years. If you really don't like them anymore because they let you down (that's a lot of $$$) then I understand but why not select a new team to follow no team is going to win all their games.

Players are stronger, faster, and in better shape than back then, the speed of the game has increased thus increasing the speed at which players are hit and the chance for injury. I also don't think most of those are illegal.

Can't we leave the goalie controversy for mid-season, it's game 4! Last year everyone complained about Ozzie not getting a chance to start. If we end up rotating goalies all that means is they are both playing well and that's a great thing for us.

You miss my point, by stars I mean longterm Red Wings that prove to be key to team success much like Draper and Maltby before them. No one would ever draft them as fantasy players but at one time Draper and Maltby were about the best in the business on the PK and PK is a key part of winning. They were also very popular in Detroit. The OP seemed to say he hadn't seen much from Flip, I disagree, Flip is a great player, is he a star in the sense of Dats or Z... no but he is a key forward and star wing in his own right.

Actually I think the off ice behavior matters a lot more than the on ice except in rare instances. Players are paid to hate eachother on the ice. Chelios and Bertuzzi are good examples of that.
