I agree with redwinger, let him play 30ish games in the NHL. He's seen enough of the AHL to prepare him for the next level, there's no way for him to develop into an NHL player without facing NHL competition.

Doubt that. Not only does Chelios give up a lot of size to Lilja, but strength and speed, as well (and as we all know, Lilja is no speed demon.) Lilja can come in, play the body, and block shots. That's all you need out of a depth d-man.

And therein lies the problem with the NHL and its officiating. The rules don't apply when a game is tight, and meaningful. The league is only hurting itself.
