It has to do with INFLATED salaries. You haven't noticed a trend in the NHL? Under the cap, one mediocre player gets a big contract, and you have 20 other mediocre players looking for their payday. With a cap, their original teams (or other teams in the league) can't compete because they already have money tied up in other guys, and these rival teams (like edmonton) know this. Schneider is a top-tier defenseman. Offensive defenseman, but he is still top-tier and any team would be happy to have his services, so that is not a bad signing- not sure why you would say otherwise. Bertuzzi is a world class player (when healthy.) Dustin Penner has proven nothing. You're comparing two guys with proven NHL track records to a newcomer who is being offered an absurd amount to jump ship to another team.

I completely agree with Burke. The NHL has screwed itself yet again. Look at the salaries of Drury, Gomez, Briere, etc. This league is an absolute joke.
-
That's so true. Some of the homers on this board act as if anybody but Lang would have been incapable of scoring a goal. Anyone have pictures of when Lang gave the puck away like 3 times in the dying moments of that WCF game while Hasek was pulled?
-
Exactly. First, people cry because there aren't enough fights/fighters on the Red Wings team..Then they get angry that there's a fight school. Are they outraged over boxing/martial arts lessons too? Fighting is a part of the game, people WILL fight in hockey- just ike they will throw huge hits. Should we frown upon checking clinics too?

looks too much like ANH. I like the old one better

If you're right, this will be another laughable move by the NHL. Nobody is going to watch this over bowl games, Buffalo will be nowhere near as good as they were last year, and WHO is going to show it? Versus? The NHL is just funny to me now, I fought all of my friends for SOOO long, but I've accepted the fact that it is a big joke.
-
So you're saying that last season, even with all of the sluggish skating, giveaways, wiffed shots, and lack of defense, you wanted Lang on the ice instead of Fil?
-
In Babcock's system, Drake will be a more valuble player than Lang ala Cleary. I do think Lang will put up decent numbers in Chicago, but I'm very glad he's gone.
-
Screw off, Ilitch! That's why 2,000 season ticket holders opted out of playoff packages, and why this year's attendance will be just as bad. I'm not renewing next year because of the outrageous prices, I'm sure that I'm not the only one. $108 for 2 people to go to hockey game in the upper deck..give me a break.
-
We should trade for Lang

To all of the Holland haters, Detroit has signed one sure-fire Hall of Famer in Hasek, along with Rafalski who could have a good chance depending on what he does in the next few years. They've also added Hudler and have Grigorenko on the way..Sounds like a pretty good off-season to me.
-
Would you like Osgood or Howard as our starting goaltender? Especially since Hasek played like a $6 million goalie last year? Don't be ridiculous.
-
Too bad if he's healthy he won't be cheap...but you don't have to worry about him being healthy..
-
It doesn't matter if Hasek was coming back regardless or not. The bottom line is that people around LGW are all over Holland, but he signed two TOP TIER players, along with Hudler and he's also bringing Grigs over. Again, two potential hall-of-famers plus two very good young players have been signed. Not a "failure" of an offseason in my opinion.
-
Exactly. Lang was the weakest link- GOODBYE! Calder was good his first few games, but fell off. Bertuzzi: I like the guy, but come on. He did NOTHING. Rafalski is an upgrade- the Wings are a better team and will either make a move soon or at the deadline, so what's the problem? They're a better team now than they were when they were in May.
-
The Wings really missed having a sniper on their PP this year..I wouldn't mind seeing Shanny back for another go.
-
Yeah, just like Martin St. Louis and Dino Ciccarelli, right?
-
As Drew & Mike would say.....SEE YA!
-
Oh yeah, because the wings have no need at all for one of the most clutch goal scorers in the NHL.
-
I'd like to see him stay, but I'm pretty sure that Grigorenko will have more of an impact than Huds.
-
Right. Within hours of becoming a Free Agent. Ah, the "jilted girlfriends" analogy was very clever, but that's what fans do- they cheer, they boo. I suppose that wings fans should not cheer when their team scores a goal because it would be an over-emotional outburst that is completely unnecessary, right? The boo birds will be flying all-around JLA next season, and I'll be right in formation- you just sit in your chair and be quiet like a good little boy.
-
Hey apologists- why shouldn't we boo Schneider this year? There is always a reason. What a ******.
-
Screw you, Mathieu!
-
No, he is not. Allison is an extremely productive player, but more injury-prone than Forsberg and Lindros put together.

Why Is Everyone Comiing Down So Hard On The Leafs?
KronwallCRUNCH replied to NC WINGS FAN's topic in General
The Leafs are an embarassment. For a team to have as large of a fan base and spotlight as they do, and to still suck for so long is terrible. They are failures. That's why.
