  1. All I would do is switch Draper and Helm.

Who has chemistry? Flip and Leino, Pavel and Hank. Split them all up? Put Datsyuk and Filppula together, both of them primarily playmakers? Homer isn't exactly a sniper despite his 4 goals.

Those lines might be worth trying at some point if the team is doing very bad, but for now there's no reason to not keep the 2nd line together as they've been great, and put Dats and Z on the first line to give us a lot of firepower.

100% agree with you. Hank and Dats need to be given some time back together to get the scoring going. Yes it would be nice to spread out the depth at times, but I think right now Detroit needs to pick up the offensive production, so going with what we know works is the best approach. The second line has been just fine and will get better. 3rd and 4th lines can be jumbled a little bit to find our best energy and shutdown line.

  2. Come on, look:

    Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom

    Leino-Filppula-Cleary

    Bertuzzi-Helm-Williams

    May-Draper-Abdelkader/Eaves

    It's not that bad.

I'm looking at things your way too...I like your line combos as well...Not sure if it's just me but I'm not a fan of the Bert-Z-Cleary line at all....I know the whole team needs to step up but that line looks really lost on the ice. I mean our grinders look decent: Maltby is one of our scoring leaders so far  , May is doing his job  , and Draper is chipping in. I think we need to give the Fins the second line mins to get them going, and re-unite the eurotwins is the best idea I've herd in a while.

  3. Agreed!!! A massive youth movement must be in play for the Sharks. According to Capgeek.com they only have 10 forwards, 5 D, and now its added back up goalie Thomas Greiss to their roster assuming hes called up as Nabokov's backup. They have less than $5M and about 5 spots to fill. Should be an interesting year for the Sharks.

    Cap Geek

As for the Nucks their D core looks good, but not great. They have a nice combination of vets and youth with many different attributes. Still no elite puck moving defenseman.

When the Wings and Nucks meet I'm thinking the Wings line of Bert-Flip-Mule is starting to sound better and better. Bert and Mule causing all kinds of comotion while Flip sets up the play, should be fun playing Vancouver this year.

  4. I have always had a soft spot for the Sabres out East and then actually meeting Derek Roy (a great guy) and his family keeps a small spot in my heart for them. I like watching the Caps, Bruins, and Flyers for entertainment value. I don't really like picking any team out West just cause most piss me off at times minus the Kings. I used to credit the Islanders a lot just because they found ways to slip into the playoffs before with a half ass roster and always some turmoil in the management or coaching positions in recent history. Although they have only been in the playoffs once since the lockout I think they will build up young and make things interesting again.

So if I had to pick 4 teams after the Wings

    1. Detroit (obvious)

    2. Sabres

    3. Caps

    4. Bruins

    5. Islanders

  5. They just made a good point about how important the home wins over the Sharks were....Which makes me hope the Wings do finish a head of the Sharks in case we play them in the Western Conference finals. I mean the regular season does count for something the biggest for the Wings could be home ice over the Sharks!

  6. Clement makes me laugh every year. Yeah San Jose said they wanted a little extra grit at the trade deadline so getting someone like Clement to ride their nuts might be what they need :P We are the team that others love to hate and I see this a lot living between Ottawa and Toronto. Having a family side with one of the two. The leafs fans think we have won enough recently. I guess it's tough when your franchise becomes a seller but they load up on half ass goalies on the deadline <_< Most TSN analysts did favor the Wings this year except for that goof Hodge who says the Bruins are going to win the East in a landslide and play the Flames.

  7. Depleted lineup, let's not get excited folks!

    esteef

Depleted lineup or not, that was just painful to watch....The worst teams in the league could register a damn shot on a 6 on 3. I do however realize that Homer could have come in handy there, but with all the talent we have on the team we should still be able to win a few without Z and Homer. Besides our callups looked GREAT!

  8. One of my favourite players in the league, easily top 5 on my list. He is a gun and will be one of the leagues best players on a better team. What I would give to have him in Detroit...

Totally agree with you there. Hes a top fav of mine and I would love to see him in Detroit. Hes a great guy in real life too a little shy but not when he hits the ice. I worked in his quiet little hometown of Dunnville, Ontario. I like that he stands up for himself and teammates too it would bring a nice touch to the forwards in Detroit.

I would like to trade a player like Flip or Sammy but we would need to send at least both or some picks.

  9. That last quote on the pens fan board makes me laugh. Kenny has shown time and time again that he can work wonders and its a known fact that Detroit has one if not the best scouting system in the league so I dont see us being in trouble. I have little worries about next offseason because Zetterberg will get his big contract of $7-8M/season range, I love Hossa but I cant see him staying if Z gets his contract. Even with Hossa gone we won the cup without him.

Franzen will get a decent contract even if we have to make a minor trade to free cap space. We have plenty of young prospects that are ready to go and I would love to see in the system. The other UFA's are not as important (Chelios, Kopecky, and Sammy). Hudler I have grown to love but I am not sure we can afford Z,Huds, and Franzen. Possibly a new defensive look to free space? Besides Lids and Rafalski I wouldnt mind seeing some D moved around and possibly giving Meech, Ericsson, or Kindl a big shot at a main roster spot.

  10. I'm with you but not to worry. Alot of people on this week are part-time "fans". They just came here to ***** because we didn't get the players that THEY wanted us to get. These people will go back to watching basketball until the middle of May. Then they will come back when the Wings are in the 3rd round or so. They will ride the bandwagon until after our Stanley cup parade. The first week in July they will come back again and ***** about what free agents that we didn't sign.

It's as predicatble as the changing seasons.

I don't worry about it though, I'm a year round Wings fan and an optimist. I watch almost every Wings game and I'm on the bandwagon for good. I'm not to worried about all the defensive pessimists. According to ALL the "experts" we are in the top 5 of teams that could win the cup. I really don't care what the basketball fans think or the pessimists because we won't know the results until June.

    GO WINGS!

I totally agree with you on that one about part-time/fair weather fans. They always seem to show up when Detroit is in a slump. Time after time again we have all heard people bitching about Holland being a terrible GM yet we still seem to be one of the most consistant teams in the NHL. Yeah we had a few early exits but at the same time we might have avoided making some trades this year that could have hurt the team down the road. Who knows what players we might have had to give up for a rental that is uncertain about their own future. Stuart was a pickup I was sure we would get and realistically I didn't assume much more. Wings are in a slump now and hurting with injuries. Still it's better than the start of the playoffs, at least they had such a killer start that we basically had a playoff spot somewhere around Christmas. We have a few months to heal and thats really what we need. The grit factor moves up a little more with Stuart bringing the hits, and I am sure McCarty will be dressed and ready to go when we play teams like Calgary or Anaheim.

  11. Avery should be signed for about 2.5M/year and for sure a guy like Chelios could keep him in line. At the same time I think most Wings would love to see Avery do what he does best ; stir things up and put some points up. This guy kicks a@@ these days and Detroit could use a complete player like him. I think if Markov is as good as gone now, and if we could land Avery, we might still have a chance to pass Tampa Bay and Minnesota for total fights.
