I don't think anyone forgot that Ozzy brought us to the cup last year, but that doesn't mean he can bring us to the cup this year. Really I don't think a deadline move would have matter anyway, I just hope Conklin can be last years Ozzy.

That is a very good point. To be honest I'm not even a huge enforcer fan (I like them and understand them, but I prefer a Neil type) I most certainly believe play the hot hand. Downey is scoring putting up points, getting fans into the game, and bringing energy and scoring at a better pace then the two I have mentioned. We have enough depth already why does it matter if we have someone who can throw a punch instead of recieve one; sorry Lilja

you implied that they say that because they basically couldn't say their true feelings one way or the other. But you lacked to give a reason why they would have a negative idea on what Downey has brought to the team, he hasn't taken any dumb penalties, he has 2 points, and is what even in +/-, that is what you implied.

That was I believe the Sharks game. But you see the postives of Maltby and Draper are know becoming few and fair between. If they have brought it every single game this season then please god bench them for the playoffs or we are in some serious trouble. It's either they are trying and can't do it, or they aren't trying and saving for the playoffs. Either way put someone in there right now who wants to or is able to play games up at this level right now. Your telling me that Datsyuk and Z don't bring a calm attitude, nor does Rafalski? Maybe that's the problem maybe they are a little to calm. I don't know but at this moment other people deserve there spot (Malts/Drapes). If they can pull a Drake of last year and just turn it on in the playoffs and play lights out, great put them back in because then they help the team, until that point though let them sit and at least rest.

How about you just say with all fairness our team wasn't almost moved in the last 10 years. In fairness we didn't just happen to get a "lucky" lottery pick to help save a franchise. In all fairness it hasn't take us 5 top 5 picks in order to be remotely competitive in the league. With all fairness don't come on to a wings board and try to talk trash about lack of fan support when a few years ago you had none.

Besides a face off please tell me what Draper and Maltby bring that couldn't be picked up by anyone else. I would rather have Helm/Leino in mostly, but even Downey before those 2. All Draper brings is faceoffs we have enough good/great centerman that can take facesoffs. They certainly don't bring any energy, defense, checking, fighting. All they bring is faceoffs. Sorry I'll take energy/checking/fighting and someone who is out there and gives a s*** over 2 players that are coasting the entire season. I'd be willing to bet he'd have more points then Maltby or Draper if put in one of there spots for as long as they were this season; especially if he got to play with Leino/Helm which is where they started getting some points.

Not that I think he should be on the 1st line, but I really think Babcock needs to reward hardworkers and punish lazy ones much more. Therefore I would premote Downey to the 3rd line, bump Franzen down to the 3rd line, and etc. Downey has earned a spot through pure hardwork isn't that what everyone loves about Cleary is ethic (not that i believe Downey is in the same universe in skill) so why can't the same be said for Downey. Franzen really pissed me off lately because he has played so damn lazy so he deserves to get a boot in the ass. Basically Babs should start sittin mofos if they play like s*** for a long period time unless there names are Datsyuk, Z, Hossa, Lids

sorry I still don't agree with you, as bad as the defense was the goalie should at least be able to steal one, at least one goal. That has not happened, pretty much any time there is a break away or remotely a set up in the zone you can count it as a goal. You can blame the d all you want but, your never going to go an entire game with out letting any scoring chances. Just like you can't expect a goalie to have a shut out every single game. But to be able and safely assume that if the puck is in our zone that theres a good chance its a goal is just bad, some should be blamed on the defense, but much more is the goalies fault. There soul purpose is to stop anything that the defense lets through, one person has been somewhat capable (conklin) the other not even remotly capable (Oz). I don't know what is with this undying loyalty to certain players when it is painfully obvious the game is passing them by. Maybe they can turn it around but I would rather play it safe and assume they can't, if that doesn't work we can through the maybe card on the table. We have better Dman in the minors then we do on the big club, we have better fowards then we do in the big club, and it would be nice to see if maybe we have better goaltenders then we do in the big club.

The reason I am not as worried about the defense as I am about the goaltending is that the defense has proven it can tighten up when it wants to. There have been times this year when our defense played better then anytime last year, but the goaltending not once has anyone on here said Ozzy stole that game for us.

nope players only lie when talking about Downey, if they say anything about leaving the goaltender out to dry, or Ozzy did his best, they most certainly are telling the truth

All I know is that now that Downey is actually providing offense you know he will be sent back down to the minors, while the great checker Kirk Maltby, and a our defensive hero/faceoff extrodonare (sp) Chris Draper will get to play on the 4th line and provide nothing more then assistance in the other team scoring. The only reason they even have as many points as they do is because Leino was up here carrying them, at least Downey brings an element we lack. Draper- we have plenty of guys who are good/great at faceoffs and actually can forecheck and backcheck, Maltby- hell even Kopecky can play on the PK, sorry but 3 or 4 good games out of 50 to 60 doesn't justify them being up over someone who can at least attempt to throw the other team off there game. Also my roomate is a huge Av's fan and he even loves Downey because of last years STL game, when he had 3 guys skating after him slashing him and pulling hooks on him. All 3 tried fighting him, we got some PP from that. Of course good thing the other 4th liners Draper/Maltby surely throw the other team off there game. Or score goals. Or hell even play defense. Wait they don't? hmmmm

Well we could have given Howard a better look; not that I think he would be worlds better, but who knows maybe he comes in on fire if given more then a single game. We could rely on more Conklin who isn't a world beater but certainly has been better then Ozzy this season. Listen I would love for Ozzy to just turn it on in the last few games and play as good as he did last year; which really he could have won the Smythe if it weren't for Z's amazing 5 on 3 act. But you can't hedge your bents on hopes at the moment, you have to go with what is safe. We hoped last year and then pulled Hasek when hope failed, went with the guy who many believed couldn't bring us to the cup despite his amazing play during the season. Now this year Ozzy is Hasek and Conklin is Ozzy. I agree with everything you have said, except The Watchmen was simply amazing your taste in movies sir . But your opinion the goalie situation Sandman what did you expect the players to say, Oh Ozzy blows and we can't let a shot go in the zone or else it's in the net. No you damn well no players especially on Detroit don't call each other out to the media like that, don't pretend to be so niave. Lastly just because the entire team plays bad doesn't mean some can't play worse then others. I mean Draper has been pathetic for majority of the season, Flip follows up with his disappointment after getting a nice raise. Maltby barely plays with heart unless it's a big game. My man Datsyuk was playing out of this world until the last 3 games he hasn't been himself, just had to throw out that even our great players have had a bad night or two recently. Raffy just might as well play as a foward. Don't even get me started with how ******* lazy Franzen played yesterday, Ozzy has been horrible the entire season except maybe 2 games, basically my point once again is just because one person has played like s*** doesn't mean the other person has played any less like s***. Raffy screwed Ozzy a lot yesterday, but godforbid we expected a goalie to actually you know steal even a decent shot; that goes for conklin too.

well think about it this way everyone. We will be getting 2 top six fowards back Hossa and Homer (hell it's been forever since Homer has played that will be a HUGE improvement). Also at least this year unlike the last 2 we have a nervous play off run, so when we inevitably win it will be that much sweater because of all the downs. Also my hero Datsyuk has been a quite recently, so expect them to turn it on when they need to. They will not fail, I Promise. edit: 97.1 says Downey will probably be sent down , sounds about right. When has he improved, he wasn't even tested against STL. Ozzy hasn't gotten better at all he has been consistantly bad. How can you say he has been slowly better in 09, he was sat for 10 days in 09? WTF

I know, my point is that we should ONLY give out NTC if they take a massive discount. Which Raffy nor Stuart, Draper have. Cleary was playing amazing when he got his so...I'm on the fence. But we need to stop handing those things the f*** out to every ******* that has a decent season or else we end up being Toronto 2.0 telling our kids the glory days of Wings hockey. I also believe you pay a player for his primary job 1st and take on a few extra for secondary. Large some of money for playing great at either foward/defense/goaltending, take on if they can play F plays good d/hits/fights. D/score/assist/fight. goaltending/stop a motherf***ing shot.
