Why wouldnt he want to stay? He's playing hockey with one of the best forwards of our generation in jagr, an unbelievable young goalie, who just finished his sophomore slump, guys like straka, avery, kasperitis, i mean wouldnt you want to play for probably the biggest american hockey market, definitely the most influential, be one of the stars of the team, have a chance at winning a cup, being in a conference where goals are more frequent, and since hes in NY his words are national stories, which could help his post-playing career (i.e. commish)

We're not underdogs anymore (according to America)

in all seriousness, how many of those states voters know more than 5 players on each team? -
Conn Smythe race for final four..
stevie for president replied to HockeyCrazy3033's topic in General
i would recheck that thornton stat. 11 points in 11 games, in the 6 games vs detroit he had 4 assists and a goal for 5 points. he did, however, have 0 points in games 5 and 6. as far as conn smythe. Theres a few ways of looking at it. Lang doesnt score his 2 goal, the wings arent where they are. nick doesnt make that save on the wrap around, we arent talking ducks today. datsyuk has been great. dom is inconsistent, but he made every save he had to make except the one vs. iginla. thats not even mentioning lilja or clearly or cheli! the guys that have played shutdown defense to perfection. they are playing like a team and i think its too hard at this juncture to say that one particular player has far and away proven to be the most valuable. -
i was high when i said that! why you could be second, or third, or hell, even forth!

Goldberg is amazing at goalie, charlie conway is a great leader, adam banks is just pure straight amazing offensively, fulton reed's shot is a real asset on the powerplay, dean portman is a scary good enforcer, gordon bombay is the best coach ive seen since scotty retired, averman always seems to break the tension and provide some humor to the bench, look out for guy germain's speed, russ tyler and the knuckle puck...look out!, kenny wu has better moves than datsyuk, julie the cat gaffney is great, but im sure the wings will be smart enough to go blocker side, unlike gunnar stahl. what an idiot! and lets not even mention dwayne robertson and his lassoing, or roping, abilities! do i believe? hell no! these guys beat team iceland! this isnt the same district 5 that came into the league in the 1990s, this is the Eden Hall Warriors/ Ducks!!!

Yzerman to unretire but seriously, our top line is set, our third line is set, our forth line will be made of griffins, so id put huds, bert, and filppula on the second line, bring up some griffins for the 4th line, and thats our offense. our defense needs some work seeing that schneider and chelios may not be on it. id love to keep them both, but if we dont, i would like a 2nd or 3rd pairing guy, even though quincy and meech will probably be called up. our tending could use an upgrade. if hasek wants to be back, id resign him in a heartbeat, but for back up id see if we couldnt make a move for a really great back up, like nittymakki or however its spelled.

well game 4, sharks are up in the series 2-1 and if they win its a commanding 3-1 lead and they play the ducks in the conference finals. In game 4 they have either a 1 or 2 to nothing lead at this time, and someone throws a dead shark on the ice. they lost that game in a heart breaker, go to detroit and get blown out, and then get shut out on home ice to get elimated. im in no way sayings a fan throwing a dead shark caused the sharks to lose, but that is some funny stuff right there

Red Wings and Pistons (and Tigers?)
stevie for president replied to RedStormRising's topic in General
haha i love how last year the pistons and red wings were overwhelming favorites, at least in their conference. this year, the wings cant beat calgary, the wings cant beat san jose, and i hope we hear the wings cant beat anaheim and the pistons cant beat the bulls. its weird how last year this was expected and didnt happen, this year both teams are underdogs and it looks pretty good so far. -
What two teams would you like to see in the finals?
stevie for president replied to BeeRYCE's topic in General
As long as the West isn't represented by California I'll be happy. wings vs. sens Wings vs. sabres wings vs. rangers all three series would be exciting to watch. Ratngs wise, I think the NHL execs are salivating and possible orgasming to the thought of Det. vs. the Rangers. -
Hey about that CBA. The fact is next year's cap will be around $50 million. This is horrible for parity because now teams will stay around $40 million again and then you will have Toronto, Detroit, the Rangers, and other big markets spending the almost $50 million. I fear that that year long lockout is for no reason because after 2 years teams are already saying they cant afford to spend next years cap (see tampa bay). Why not add that to the list of why we hate bettman?

Can someone help me? I'm only 20 years old, and my earliest NHLmemory was the 1994 series vs. the sharks. It might be cheveldae's game 7 let down in the prior year, I'm not sure if I remember it live or from the red wings 1st championship movie. Anyways, like I said, I really only remember 13 years or so of NHL, and thats mostly the play on the ice. I dont remember the state of the NHL. for example, was there a huge buzz for the nhl before bettman? were the economics of the game better? i hear that the style of "old time hockey" was amazing, but ive never been able to see it. I just couldnt fathom the NHL ever being all the talk in the USA, so what I'm asking is, is Gary Bettman really as bad as we all think he is, or is he just taking the blame for trying innovative ideas that might stir up mass interest in a game that has never had it?

Pre-GAME 4 (5/2): Red Wings @ Sharks - 10 PM ET
stevie for president replied to aflac9262's topic in General
Homer being back gives the powerplay a much needed boost and out top line is back together. You almost have to give this to the wings. hopefully they come out with desperation and they start checking again. The penalty kill has been pretty good, but the powerplay needs to get cranking, and hopefully Homer will give it that added dimension and possibly an extra goal or two for the game. My prediction, 4-2 Wings (Homer, Lidstrom, Draper, and Filppula for detroit and Goc and Marleau for San Jose.) -
That's not fair to a team with more depth. If you can roll 4 lines for 7 periods, you have a huge advantage over a team with 3 lines. Making it 2 forwards instead of 3 adds another line. and no one in their right mind will go with 5 lines in a 2 on 2 game because then your best players see much less ice time. so a 4 on 4 OT will hurt a team that made it on depth and help a team that made it with top heavy scoring. Also, you can say whatever you want about multiple OT games, but you know the most exciting game you have watched in the last decade was the 3OT game in the cup finals in 02. And about that, please tell me how one of the oldest teams in the NHL goes through a marathon series with colorado, then loses game 1 in OT and then goes to a 3OT game in game 3, and showed no signs of slowing down. and Yzerman was on one leg, and the guy who scored 6 periods into the game was the oldest guy in the NHL. And about sponsors. How hard is it to say "This overtime is brought to you by Dodge" or whatever. Imagine 60 extra minutes of play with a little dodge symbol by the scorebox, or line nowadays, and every 5 whistles having dock emerick plugging dodge?

When you look at the last 8 teams, you see Anaheim and San Jose, both pretty big markets, and exposing cali to playoff hockey Vancouver, small market, but i hear seattle has a lot of canuck fans, and canada always rallies for the last remaining team in the playoffs Detroit, one of the big hockey markets in the NHL Ottawa, see Vancouver Sabres, small market, but toronto fans are sabre fans Rangers, biggest market in the NHL, in my opinion Devils, close to new york but they arent that hockey crazy The way I see it, the stanley cup finals will finally have 2 big markets that the NHL needs, unless it turns out to be an all-canadian final. other than that, any matchup should generate more hype than any other since bourque hoisted the cup. I say best possible is detroit vs. new york, worst possible is vancouver vs. ottawa, in terms of ratings and hype in america, and all other match ups should be really exciting and with bigger markets.
-
Thats why i think the second round reseeding should go by points. it really should be detroit vs. vancouver, and anaheim vs. san jose. That way, the top two teams could face off in the conference finals. but thats of course assuming the top two teams are detroit and san jose, because people could argue anaheim to replace any one of those two teams.

Holmstrom: Out until at least Game 4
stevie for president replied to Wings_Dynasty's topic in General
you call a wrist shot on the powerplay from 64 feet out with no traffic in front ineffective?! shows what you know about what it takes to score at the NHL level... -
wow, it must be great being a red wing. if you dont win literally every single game, someone hits the panic button. I'm pretty sure Babs knows what he is doing. Last year the wings wouldve beaten Edmonton with hasek in net. they almost won with legace's suicide worthy game 6! and this year they have calder and bertuzzi who are really tough to get off the puck.
-
The pope recently said that there is no more limbo! on a side note, i think the only people that need to believe the wings will beat the sharks are the current red wings! what does luc know anyways? you cant base this on regular season match up because this isnt the wings that the sharks dominated. bert and calder make a huge difference, hasek will be in net, they arent playing on the back end of back to back games, and they actually check! if they stay out of the box, which is impossible in todays nhl, they will have no problem with the sharks. p.s. im not being a homer, i actually think this could go either way, but i dont think the wings are doomed. im confident they can win this series, especially since a few lucky bounces can change a game, and a game obviously changes the series.

well, ESPN says absolutely nothing about hockey unless someone slashes someone else in the face or sucker punches someone trying to defend his best player. I listen to sports radio a lot in Detroit. you know, the sports inferno and such. i feel like they talk about 60% lions, 20% pistons, 15% tigers, and the last 5% of airtime about the red wings. It actually makes me very mad. i was listening at the start of the NHL playoffs, and instead of predictions and matchups about the wings and flames, they argued about whether or not the lions should draft a quarterback. I wish we'd get TSN instead of CBC!

Does anyone else find it Ironic that 3 years ago only Cujo looked like he came to play and it was really aggrivating as a detroit fan, and now in this series Calgary had to know how that feels because Kipper is the only one that came to play.

My friend was like LANG ON A BREAKAWAY! and i was like 10 bucks he misses the net. Thank God Lang embarrassed me.

I dont get how this is ironic

Time warp: 2001, wings lose in 6, give up 2-0 lead
stevie for president replied to WingedWheelin06's topic in General
it aint over till the fat lady sings. but since we dont have a fat lady in hockey, brett hull will do. -
You can't blame the refs. they sucked both ways since about october of 2005. bottom line, either work on discipline or special teams or, preferably, both. the wings lacked discipline and had not pp or pk. thats why they lost.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=twoo...n&type=lgns if she had any jounalistic credibilty before this article, it should be lost forever, as should her articles. I disagree with everything she said in this article, and the part about shootouts deciding who makes the playoffs...i dont know where to get this info, but can someone find out if shoot out points got one team in the playoffs instead of another? That should read shootouts in the playoffs. i dont know how to change it. sorry.
