Chris Simon, A.K.A. Greasy Mullet, is a punk, he is way beyond his horrible excuse for prime, and should be kicked out of the NHL. You want to get revenge in hockey, you do it by dropping the gloves. This isn't basketball or baseball or even football. This is a sport that was known for fighting until recently. Even if you don't want to fight, just take his number and check him back. This happens frequently. You could even go as far as saying "Hey ref. that wasnt boarding?" But the last thing on earth you should do is two-hand someone in the face!! Things like that make me amazed at how the instigator rule is still in the NHL. How many more players have to be needlessly injured for the the GMs to get rid of this idiotic rule? Oh, I know he was given a 10 minute penalty, but im confused. Were the Isles short handed for 10 minutes? His PIM for the game showed 12, but he got a minor in the first. I know he was ejected. Did anyone watch it? Was it a 10 minute powerplay?

SI.com - Michael Farber - Beating the Red Wings
stevie for president replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
You can almost give the division title to Nashville unless Zetterberg magically returns in a week. I think Nashville has to control the amount of shots that Vokoun sees. The only teams that let up more shots than Nashville are Philly, Washington, Boston, and Montreal, and last i checked, those teams are nowhere near being considered cup contenders, and since Huet went down, i dont think any of those team will make the playoffs. Meanwhile, Nashville is #1 in terms of points in the NHL. -
Tim Cheveldae was his goalie for a few of those playoffs...
-
Definately Nashville and Anaheim are better teams than Detroit, but do you guys think that San Jose and Calgary have a better shot at the cup than Detroit does? and Dallas is 11th? or are these what he guessed before the season started?
-
I'll be very surprised if Kenny lets Dats just walk away. Zetterberg and he have such amazing chemistry. This team right now would be a 6th or 7th place team without Datsyuk. Maybe he doesnt produce as much as in years past, but ever since we paired him with Zetterberg, the wings have been phenominal.

I really like the Blues Brothers and wouldn't mind either Guerin or Tkachuk on this team. I don't like the whole Lapointe idea. If thats the case, i would rather spend an extra 1 million or so next season and get Samsonov. The NHL is too competitive for the trade deadline to be so early. Some teams just aren't ready to accept the fact that they wont make the playoffs. I think it should go back to the second tuesday in march and see if blockbuster trades made a come back.

Well, penalties are rare in the new NHL, so they should make the penalty less severe and hopefully more players will slash and trip and hook and even high stick. how does this not make sense to anyone else? oh, and to the guy that said some 1-0 games are more exciting, i forgot to quote and im too lazy to hit the back button. i have never agreed more with a statement on this website. look at today's game vs. the hawks. it was basically 3-2 without the empty net but it was one of the best games ive watched all season. sometimes too much scoring is just as dull as not enough scoring.

News: League GMs meet for conference in upcoming days
stevie for president replied to a topic in General
i think if a player with the puck crossed the blue line, off sides shouldnt be called. i see very often that a player goes offsides because his team mate made a move at the line so the puck didnt cross the line, even if the player with possesion did. -
Zetterberg for Art Ross, and a concern for this season.
stevie for president replied to a topic in General
i highly doubt our second line will look the way it does in 2 weeks. if the wings are serious about contending for a cup, they desperately need a trade. even if it isnt a blockbuster trade, they need to do something to add chemistry. look what zetterberg has done since he was lined with datsyuk. chemistry goes a long way in hockey. maybe lang-filppula-hudler will have chemistry or something. i dont even know if its possible. i just dont like the idea of sending the same guys out there over and over before you realize they just shouldnt play together. mix things up babcock! you might get lucky. -
i love how everyone bashes datsyuk for not producing the playoffs. in 03 he played 4 games, in 04 he played 12 games, and in 06 he played 5 games, and he got 9 assists. thats not bad considering the team couldnt score and he had no room to move. Also, no one could score on Giguire and he was injured vs. Edmonton.

MLive: Forsberg talk heats up, deal "in days"?
stevie for president replied to Howe's Bony Elbow's topic in General
a little off topic but... as many mistakes as the NHL (or the scapegoat Bettman) makes, one of the best things in my mind is the prorated contract. I dont know if other leagues use this, but without it, i see no midseason transactions, and especially none where a contender can add a solid top 6 forward, top 4 defense, or starting goalie without giving up really anything on the current roster. lets hope the wings take advantage of this! Forsberg or no Forsberg, something needs to be done because i dont see this team as it stands today winning 2 series. -
at least it makes more sense than the thornton trade. What is Boston thinking? They finally rebuild and then lose their three best players (Thornton, Raycroft, and Samsonov), and now instead of trying to rebuild or trade for talent, they trade away a draft pick and on top of that get the worse end of the trade. I understand stuart and primeau are ufas, but it would make more sense to trade for picks or prospects. I dont get it.

dont forget yzerman is still out with knee surgery! I'm still in the denial stage of the grief cycle. Sorry.
-
I completely agree. If we can't skate the puck in, we need to dump it into the corners, and as it stands we dont have a player good enough to get it out of the corners consistently for a whole playoff series. The way you break a trap is with speed and strength. You need to get to the loose puck in the corner first and then sustain the beating you will take controlling the puck to the front of the net.

Is there a better way to sort teams in the NHL standings?
stevie for president replied to WingsFan2007's topic in General
if im not mistaken, total points only matter twice. once in december for the all star coach, which is no big deal. and 2, in april when playoff standings are made, and the one day in april when points actually matter, every team played 82 games, so total points and win percentage give the same results. -
What is a game winning goal supposed to tell us?
stevie for president replied to WingsFan2007's topic in General
i dont know what makes more sense to anyboy besides myself, but to me, it makes most sense to judge clutch play by how times you scored with your own net empty (meaning you tie the game with under a minute left) or an over time goal. I dont care about a game winning goal, because it can be scored at 5 minutes into the first period, making it, im my own opinion, meaningless. -
usually when an AHL goalie plays in the NHL, the team becomes much much better defensively and much much worse offensively to try and compensate for having a 3rd stringer in net. You are right though, he should have more than one win. San Jose and today are two that shoudlve for sure been wins.

So American's can't talk hockey? Just because a majority of Americans don't like hockey, doesn't mean all Americans don't like hockey. See, this is called stereotyping, which is a no no. That is on par, but less drastic, than saying black people shouldn't be food critics because they only like fried chicken and watermelon. Saying something like that is just idiotic. Ok, so who is the best hockey player ever? Hull or Housley? Don't stereotype, and start using the c key, because using K's and stereotyping might make me think you are a klan member. should i jump to that illogical conclusion, just like you did with bucci not knowing hockey and americans loving teams and not players? And for what its worth, i always see how my favorite players are doing in every sport. the only team i actually care about is the red wings. and i am AmeriCan.

stevie for president replied to WingsFan2007's topic in General
Game Winning Goal statistics are pointless, if you ask me. I know thats not what the thread is about, but honestly, in a game like hockey, game winning anythings arent meaningful. Baseballs has walkoff homers, basketball has buzzer beaters, and football has their 2 minute drill. Hockey has no equivalent, and trying to force an equivalent to exist is just stupid. If anything, it should be "Game tying goals with the goalie pulled/ overtime goals" Thats clutch play, not scoring with 1 minute into a game of a 1-0 victory. -
Yzerman had Gallant and Probert Gretzky and Messier had McSorely Maybe Datsyuk and Zetterberg need that guy that will make the other team think twice about giving a little slash on your hurt wrist, or giving you a face wash, or sticking out a knee. Will Bertuzzi turn Datsyuk or Zetterberg into Yzerman, Messier, or Gretzky? Only an idiot would say yes. But did those 3 guys benefit from having a player known for what he did with his hands instead of his stick? Like it or not, Bertuzzi is EXACTLY what the Wings need, besides the drama he might have with Chelios.

have any of you ever been home, looking for something to watch, and thought to yourself "Gee, i wonder what versus has on." my answer is no. i have, however, wondered what ESPN was showing. Sometimes its guys playing madden, but sometimes ill watch billiards or poker, because nothing else is on. I'm sure im not the only one. P.S. the nhl's problems go beyond the network they are on. the schedule, parade to the sin bin, icing rules, goalie freezing the puck rules, diving, short shootout, overexpanded, diluted, puck over glass shouldnt be a penalty, there should be contact along the boards and in front of the net, fighting should come back, the all star game shouldnt go against idol, doc emerik or whatever has the most annoying voice, none of the commentators talk about something that has to do with the game, i disagree with many of the markets, i mean i can go all day. the nhl shouldnt be a niche sport if the guys in charge knew what the hell they were doing! how about lets have hockey fans in charge instead of lawyers.

Just tell him "Bye Bye" Take your offers off the table, and say we are parting ways. We don't need his 40 goals if Kenny could pull off a trade or sign a free agent, which he hasnt done since the cba, and he never pulled off a trade (excluding the Hasek trade because that type of trade would never happen under the new CBA) The only thing kenny knows how to do is overpay players and get bailed out by his scouts. $5million is outrageous and he wont get that anywhere. If he has a career ending injury and cant play next season, under the new CBA he is a cap hit even if he retires. one year $3-3.5million is pushing it as far as im concerned, and two years at anything is just plain wrong.

Eklund at it again: Shanny back, Giguere to Detroit?
stevie for president replied to datsyukonethree's topic in General
this would be the worst possible move the wings could make. Ilya Bryzgalov is the starter for the ducks, Giggy is the back-up. Lang is a top 6 forward and probably the #1 center! I dont care, thats the worst move. Also, the Ducks would be Cup favorites if that happened. Great goaltending, arguably the best defense and now a stellar offense. We need a goalie so we can win the cup, but trading lang to the ducks hurts our chances more than it helps. I can't see us making a move to the ducks at all. It would make no sense. -
