the problem is malkin more valuable to his team than any red wing is to his team, so theorhetically malkin should win the conn smythe, but ideally it would go to a wing if the wings can win another game.

Thoughts from the Penguin's Nest
stevie for president replied to BewareThePenguin's topic in General
the difference is we dont need hossa to get 30+ points in the playoffs. if hossa doesnt perform well, we still have a great chance of winning. remember, we did win the cup last year with hossa on the other side. the difference between the wings and the penguins is we can split 4 games with our hart candidate out, but you guys wouldve been swept with yours out. we finished off a very young, fast, and talented team without 2 of top 6 defensemen for 2 games, and without 3 of top 7 for the clinching game. we beat anaheim without hossa, datsyuk, and holmstrom contributing offensively. When guys like hossa, datsyuk, and zetterberg cant find the twine, guys like cleary, abdelkader, and filppula are scoring goals. if crosby and malkin dont produce, chances are the penguins lose. just like games 1,2 and 5. and the stanley cup finals last year (which wouldve ended before game 6 without Hossa.) -
Thoughts from the Penguin's Nest
stevie for president replied to BewareThePenguin's topic in General
I wonder what would be said about crosby if he signed with a different team? Get over it, Hossa didnt like being a penguin. he has no loyalties to their organization. he was a trade deadline acquisition. the pens took a gamble trading for hossa because he was a free agent and he could have walked away...which he did. and its the same thing when wings fans boo fedorov. he chose to leave for whatever reason and that is his right. hossa took you guys to finals appearance, and he gave you a lot to cheer about. he decided for whatever reason that he didnt want to play in pittsburgh so he left. all the comments about his lack of production are completely off base. Anyone with hockey smarts could see that hossa is still a force and he still contributes tremendously to our success this playoff run. -
Any Chance Tavares Replaces Crosby as the New NHL Poster Boy?
stevie for president replied to Probie's topic in General
does market drive demand or does the demand drive the market? if you continuously hear that the iphone is the best phone and see highlights of what it can do, you might want an iphone. If you see commercials showing the best parts of a movie, youll probably want to see that movie. if you see commercials and highlights of a hockey player, youll probably be a fan of that hockey player. hence why companies advertise. to produce a desire. look at the snuggie. do you think people were sitting around saying id love a blanket with sleeves? of course not, but they saw an infomercial and got one. theyve sold millions of snuggies because the market produced a desire. my point is this, while crosby played for rimouski, the NHL was marketing him. they dubbed him the next one. they made him enticing. people wanted to see crosby, not because of what he has done, but because they heard over and over how good he is. how could people watch him for what he has done when he hasnt done anything yet? so people tuned in, and they were treated to an extremely gifted hockey player, and they liked what they saw, so they became fans. im not trying to say he isnt a great hockey player, because id look absolutely foolish. crosby is a great hockey player, but the NHL created his marketability, and thats where i take issue. he didnt deserve to be the poster boy of the new nhl before he took a pregame warmup in the nhl. -
Any Chance Tavares Replaces Crosby as the New NHL Poster Boy?
stevie for president replied to Probie's topic in General
the NHLs poster boy should have already proven himself to be a perennial all star and very well respected league wide. and he should be more than just a goal scorer. he should be a great all around hockey player, because hockey is more than just scoring goals. if tavares can accomplish this, he should replace crosby, especially since crosby doesnt deserve to the poster boy to begin with. -
let them say what they want about detroit, its citizens, and its hockey team. we all know detroit will rebound from this. granholm is almost gone, kwame is gone, now if the big 3 can turn it around and we start diversifying the work force, detroit will be back. not to mention we are 1 win away from beating them for the second straight stanley cup final (even though the 1 more win will be the hardest win of the season) anyways, this is a hockey forum, and this should be about hockey. its not cool at all to make fun of homeless people just because a hockey team from that city beat your team. and its also not cool to make fun of people that lost their jobs because of their higher ups mistakes. its not these people made mistakes and cost their companies money. they lost their jobs because their managers were incompetent. but yeah, lets laugh at them because the detroit hockey team beat the pittsburgh hockey team!!

Just an amazing statistical anomaly
stevie for president replied to Probert 5 For Fighting's topic in General
our lack of pressure on the points is our problem. when our wingers are deep, they opposing dmen have a lot of room and time to make a good pass or wind up for the shot. also, when our wingers are deep and our d gets the puck, they through it up the boards, just like youre told from mini mights on. the problem is, our wingers are too deep to chip the puck out. oh and when youre rushing to the point, you end up screening the goalie whereas if youre already at the point you have a better chance of blocking the shot because you can move east to west instead of strickly going north, and also because youre closer to the shot, its like how goalies play at the top of the crease to cut off the shot. the closer you are to the shot, the less room there is to get it around you. -
i think only the linesmen can call too many men so if a ref notices 6 men on the ice, he cant do much. at least i think thats the case. just like a linesman cant call a tripping penalty even if its obvious.

Hossa interfered with more than others?
stevie for president replied to KrazyGangsta's topic in General
game 1 pens are 0/2 on the powerplay, game 2 they are 1/1 and game 3 they are 2/3. they are 3/6 on the powerplay in 3 games. out of 6 goals, 1 was empty net and 3 were on the powerplay. the pens average 2 powerplays a game! the refs in game 3 were the same as the refs in game 1, a game which i feel was beautifully officiated. the big blunder in game 3 was too many men, a call the linesmen make, not the refs. now lets say i agree that the reffing has been terrible (which I dont.) we are killing 1 out of every 2 powerplays. the pens are taking advantage of our s***ty PK. this is our problem. this is why we almost lost to anaheim and this is what cost us game 3. thats it. our penalty killing all year has been atrocious. just for reference, game 1 wins were 0 for 2, game 2 not including the 18 seconds at the end of the game the wings were 0 for 1 and game 3 we were 1 for 2. so the pens are 3 for 6 on powerplays and we are 1 for 4 and we scored 7 even strength goals and they scored 2 not including an empty netter. its obvious the way this series has been called favors the wings tremendously because even strength we destroy the pens, but special teams they are twice as good statistically this series. -
Predictable Patterns Killing The Game?
stevie for president replied to rick zombo's topic in General
nothing against the pens PP but it was our PK that decided the game. we never ever ever ever pressure the points. its amazing that we have the best goalie in the playoffs and the 14th PK out of 16. something is wrong with that! im not trying to take anything away from the pens, again. but im just saying, pressure the points, make them make bad passes or hurried shots and have someone there to clear the zone and i bet you our pk% improves. -
as a wings fan, you shouldnt be mad about the ericsson penalty. you should be mad that we NEVER pressure the point on the penalty kill!!! we give them all the time in the world and we never get the puck out of the zone because our wingers are so deep. it pisses me off like no other! and what was with pulling ozzie on a dump in? arent we supposed to wait until we have possession in the offensive zone? if we play for 60 minutes we will win regardless of how the calls go.

Mark Messier Leadership Award finalists named
stevie for president replied to P. Marlowe's topic in General
it just shows that the NHL gives out too many individual awards for a team game. i love how messier gets to name the winner too. does he go into every locker room, all players only meetings, etc and see what happens? how does he determine who leads his team the best? i dont get it. -
They do a great job of obstruction

im sick of lucky bounces. i dont consider you hitting the post a lucky bounce for the other team. if crosby hit the post, its from his own doing. its his fault his aim was off. pens have 2 goals, the first one malkin took a shot, ozzies stick blade broke in half while he tried angling the puck to the corner (thats what he said in the post game press conference. if you look closely at the replay you can see his stick blade is flimsy). the puck went the opposite way and fedotenko was there to pick up the scraps. the second goal stuart scored. both can be considered lucky goals. the wings have 6 goals, the first stuart purposely shot wide because the shooting lane was blocked. it hit the boards and bounced in off fluery. the second franzen back handed it from behind the net, it hit a sprawling fluerys leg and went in. the third abdelkader shot the puck, gathered his rebound, shot it again and beat fluery high. ok ill give you the 1st 2 were luck, but the third was a great play and a good goal. game 2 ericsson shot it by a screened fluery, filppula made an ureal backhand shot off the post and in after malkin decided to push holmstrom into fluery while the puck was in the crease, and the 3rd goal abdelkader was going against 2 pens defensemen while his team was changing. he shot the puck and it beat fluery. which of these were lucky? by my count thats 2 lucky goals per team, but the difference is the wings have 4 skill goals against the pens 0.

F crosby D crosby G crosby best player in the NHL. he can do everything. Hes like Gretzky, Orr, and Roy all rolled into one. for real though F Datsyuk because im a homer and hes the best 2 way player in the NHL. Not on detroit though id go with Devin Setoguchi. D Cam Barker is young, big, and offensively talented, but he needs to work on his +/-. if he cant focus on defense id probably go with Duncan Keith instead. (yikes chicago could have a tough D if they can get rid of Campbell and Huet's contracts!) G Cam Ward hands down best young goalie in the NHL

i saw on Mlive that league revenues are about 4% less than last year which would put the cap at roughly 54 million, but the NHLPA could exercize an option to raise the cap by 5% which would bring it up to 56.1 million, .6 million less than this years cap. source: http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/05/br...s_chairman.html http://www.nypost.com/seven/05312009/sport...1746.htm?page=0 (this is quoted in the mlive blog, i didnt read it yet though)

Malkin's penalty rescinded (merged)
stevie for president replied to 10 Minute Misconduct's topic in General
unfortunately i think they are being very consistent. Scott Neiedermeyer didnt get suspended, Walker didnt get suspended, Cammalleri didnt get suspended. what suspensions were there? the only one i can think of was carcillo, which was basically the same as cammalleri, but it was at the end of the game and carcillo should never have been out there or taking the draw for that matter, so i can see how the situation warranted a suspension. -
1 team out of 32 won games 1 and 2 of the cup final at home and lost. also maggie the monkey never picked the correct cup winner (0-5 record) and this year she picked the penguins. having said all that, the team that wins 4 games first wins 100% of their series, and i think thats the only piece of history that really matters so lets get 2 more!!

Malkin's penalty rescinded (merged)
stevie for president replied to 10 Minute Misconduct's topic in General
correct me if im wrong but didnt colin campbell review this play? and doesnt he absolutely love the wings? and pronger would be suspended based on reputation. malkin was frustrated and his emotions got the best of him. he wasnt out there trying to injure zetterberg, i dont even know if he was sending a message. i just think he was pissed off and let out some rage. dont get me wrong, as a wings fan, i was hoping malkin was out, but as a hockey fan, without malkin game 3 could be a very lopsided and boring stanley cup finals game, so it might be better anyways. plus hopefully he gets frustrated easily and takes more dumb penalties -

Socialism refers to any one of various economic theories of economic organization advocating state or cooperative ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equal opportunities/means for all individuals with a more egalitarian method of compensation based on the full product of the laborer and i didnt call vs. socialist, i called the NHL socialist -
Ericsson leaves hospital to go watch WCF Game #5
stevie for president replied to Mike's topic in General
while TNT had Lebron and NBC had sid and malkin, ESPN had womens softball. the NHL tv contract in the US really benefits noone. and if its true that Bettman wanted a contract with equal exposure to all teams, why is trying to run the NHL like its socialist? every team is not equal. some teams are better, some teams earn more, some teams can afford to spend more, some teams draw bigger audiences. why is it that teams like phoenix and atlanta can continually hurt teams like detroit, toronto, montreal, etc? it makes no sense. If you want every team to be equal, help teams become better, dont hinder teams to be on par with worthless franchises that shouldnt exist. -
the better the central is, the better off the wings are! and chicago deserves some success and we all know Joel is not the guy to bring it to them. plus, i know i hate to say it, but the wings wont play chicago every year and if they last longer than we do, id rather have them in the finals over any other team in the west!! and yeah, Campbell is is 7.14 cap hit until 2015/2016,

Duhatschek: Wings will successfully re-sign Hossa
stevie for president replied to ComradeWasabi's topic in General
this is the 2008 offer sheet breakdown. it should be similar to 2009s since the cap should be about the same. _,863,156 or less ......... none _,863,157 - 1,307,811 ..... 3rd round pick 1,307,812 - 2,615,623 ..... 2nd round pick 2,615,624 - 3,923,434 ..... 1st and 3rd etc. 3,923,435 - 5,231,246 ..... 1st, 2nd and 3rd 5,231,247 - 6,539,061 ..... 1st x2, 2nd & 3rd 6,539,062 or more ......... 1st x4 where does hudler fall? 1.3-2.6 range? if he signs for 1.7 or less, match it. anything more and take the 2nd rounder and keep hossa. -
i wish joel gets fired and scotty takes over behind the bench. as far as cap woes, huet and campbell are over paid and they will never get rid of those contracts. and you cant buy out campbell because his term is for i think 7 more years so a buyout means half his salary (3.6ish) for double the term (10, 12, 14 years depending on when the buyout occurs) so they are stuck with that horrendous contract.
