Report: Sundin wants to play for Rangers
stevie for president replied to MacK_Attack's topic in General
everyone on that roster is over paid. who is even tradable? Roszival and Mara i would guess but youd need prospects and picks because you cant add a roster player. What would that trade get in return? a 2nd and a 3rd? -
Hossa to Detroit @ Letsgopens.com

The Wings agreed to a contract with Fedorov and then when he went to sign, it was 1 year and $10 million less than the original contract. Of course he left. I would've left. You can call the wings the classiest team in sports, and I would agree, but what they did to Sergei was very very classless. And for some reason, after that, after 3 cups, after all the highlights, he still gets booed by the fans after 5 years. thats all i meant by it. i was never trying to compare his situation with hossas because they arent similar. as far as schneider is concerned, Rafalski is 10x better, his contract is better, and i think thats why wings fans werent pissed. he was replaced by someone better. -

Fedorov gets booed here in Detroit and its been 5 years. I have no source but i think i remember hearing Malkin's contract insulted Hossa because it was so similar. so pens fans can think all they want of him, hossa, a former linemate, isnt too crazy about malkin ill try to find a source. -
1.) Add ESPN and ABC to the broadcast partners. Monday/Tuesday is Versus. Thursday is ESPN. Saturday is ABC. Sunday is NBC. For playoffs ESPN/ABC would have East, NBC/Versus would have the West (or vice versa). And they would alternate who airs the finals. 2.) Puck over the glass would result similar to icing instead of a penalty. 3.) Puck off the mesh would still be in play. 4.) Instigator would be gone forever. I'd murder it, chop it up into pieces and bury each piece somewhere around the world so that it could never rise from the dead and reassemble itself and harm the NHL again. 5.) When possible, the All-Star game would be the outdoor game. When not possible, the outdoor game would be an actual regular season game as it is now. In either case, it would be held the Sunday before the Super Bowl.

Edzo is naturally biased. he coached the pens and i believe he played for them and chicago. im too lazy to look it up. and i thought doc emerick was biased in favor of the wings if anything. i remember him talking about ernie harwell one game. pierre mcquire is just an idiot and mike millbury makes pierre look smart so i dont pay attention to either of them. oh and the avs announcers blow too. imagine rick jeanneret doing national tv!

i loved spezza heatly alfredson a couple seasons ago but thats far from the best ever. Two kids and goat is the best line name ever. Grind line is a close second. Best in NHL history has to be bossy gilles and trottier. Best in NHL today is ZDH Best ive ever seen floppa hejduk tanguay. i hate to say it but i s*** myself when they had the puck. sorry for the horrible imagine that put in your head.

what does katrina hancock know anyways? I love when cities that had teams bankrupt and ready to relocate have 2 good seasons and think they are hockeytown. Buffolo will never be hockeytown because the dont win anything and they almost lost their team, pittsburgh almost lost their team and in their 41 years of existence they had maybe 8 good seasons. Minnesota lost a team and they cant win anything. Detroit Red Wings, best US hockey team ever, best sports team (arguably) since 1995, best hockey team of the past decade and a half, and only once our state's economy and population went to s*** was attendance ever an issue. And lets not even mention all the legends that have played, owned and coached as a detroit red wing.

he got mad when the wings didnt offer him a contract that both parties agreed to, therefore he sucks and should be booed for eternity. best goal ever
-
dont try this at home http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=hwSIg22Qd-c the goal. i realize he jumped after he scored, but he was still being tripped!

just out of curiousity, wasnt datsyuks number like 56 or something in preseason 2001? if so, does anyone know why because i know hes 13 internationally and he was in russia.

Well its top red wings and that doesnt limit it to just players so this is my list 1.) Scotty Bowman- He took us from perennial disappointment to the finals in 2 seasons, and never looked back 2.) Mike Ilitch- We went from Dead things to Hockeytown. And in the last 15 years, red sox to yankees. 3.) Steve Yzerman- Statistically he shouldnt be the highest ranked player, but his leadership and perseverence set a standard that exists even after he retired 4.) Nicklas Lidstrom- arguably the best player in red wings history and #2 behind #4 bobby orr for best dman of all time 5.) Sergei Fedorov- You can hate his off ice antics, but on the ice he was the most feared scorer in the 90s 6.) Brendan Shanahan- he brought that grit and that little bit extra to take us over the hump. 2 cups in his first 2 years is no coincidence 7.) Ken Holland- Hes usually wont roll the dice, but hes made a habit of filling in spots when players leave and thats why since he took we have been to the playoffs every season, we won 3 cups, won the division every year except i think 00-01, 8.) Chris Osgood- Probably the wings best goalie since sawchuk. 2 cups as a starter and just as good off the ice. 9.) Hakan Anderson- hes so low because his biggest contributions broke though too recently. Datsyuk, Z, Kronwall, just to name a few 10.) Tomas Holmstrom- In the inter cup period he was the only guy that would consistantly drive the net and stay there, go into corners, do all the dirty work that you dont get credit for. He takes a beating game in and game out and loves it and its so satisfying to see him finally get the recognition he deserves. and since the lockout he out of nowhere added offensive prowess. if he could work on his D, hed be the complete package.

i thought there was 12 men on an NBA roster? Also on Wikipedia the average salary was $5.2 million. and there are a few exceptions where the salary wouldnt even count against the cap in the NBA. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Salary_Cap its all there

Bossy Trottier and Fedorov are the only players in NHL history to score 20pts in 4 consecutive post seasons Forsberg never scored over 30 goals in a season. he hit 30 twice. Fedorov exceeded 30 goals 10 times. and he has a 50 goal season. fedorov scored 1.9 goals for every one of forsbergs and played 1.7 games for every 1 of forsbergs. of the awards that one has that the other doesnt Forsberg has an art ross and a calder Fedorov has pearson and a selke however, forsbergs rookie year was worse than fedorovs, and nobody wouldve beaten belfour in calder voting in 1991. and finally, fedorov was much much much better defensively than forsberg. He even played D for the wings and the blue jackets. forsberg is no slouch, as you stated, but he also is no fedorov. im not trying to say forsberg isnt HHOF worthy or anything, and i was scared when he had the puck too, but i just think Fedorov is has been better than forsberg and still is better than forsberg, and only in forsbergs prime was he better than fedorov statistically.

Article 50.7: The difference between the stated Player Salary and Bonuses in the first two League Years of an SPC cannot exceed the amount of the lower of the two League Years. Thereafter, in all subsequent League Years of the SPC, (i) any increase in Player Salary and Bonuses from one League Year to another may not exceed the amount of the lower of the first two League Years of the SPC (or, if such amounts are the same, that same amount); and (ii) any decrease in Player Salary and Bonuses from one League Year to another may not exceed 50 percent of the Player Salary and Bonuses of the lower of the first two League Years of the SPC (or, if such amounts are the same, 50 percent of the same amount). Example 1: An SPC provides for $2M in Year 1. The player can earn up to $4M in Year 2 and up to $6M in Year 3, but not less than $1M in Year 2 and not less than $500K in Year 3. Example 2: An SPC provides for $1M in Year 1 and $2M in Year 2. The lower of these two amounts is $1M, so Year 3 cannot provide for more than $3M or less than $1.5M. Example 3: An SPC provides for $1M in Year 1 and $1M in Year 2. The lower of these two amounts is $1M, so Year 3 cannot provide for more than $2M or less than $500K. Example 4: An SPC provides for $750K in Year 1 and $1.1M in Year 2. The lower of these two amounts is $750K, so Year 3 cannot provide for more than $1.85M or less than $725K. Example 5: An SPC provides for $2.5M in Year 1 and $1.5M in Year 2. The lower of these two amounts is $1.5M, so Year 3 cannot provide for more than $3M, nor less than $750K. NOTE: this does not mean "change in salary is limited to 50% of the prior year's salary" - it's 50 percent of the lower of the first 2 years of an SPC. This means that a team cannot sign a player to a contract averaging $4 million per year by making the 1st year $16 million, and the other 4 years $1 million (or anything else that looks like this) - because it's a violation of the 100 Percent Rule. It does mean that a team can sign a player to a contract averaging $4 million per year by structuring it as $8 million, $6 million, $4 million, $1 million, and $1 million. http://www.nhlscap.com/cap_faq.htm#100pct

fedorov absolutely destroys peter forsberg in every conceivable category. if forsberg should even be considered than it means fedorov is a 1st ballot lock.
-
uhh guys, they didnt consider hockey as a sport in this article. the only mention is the stars are driving distance to austin. so dont get too upset. if you have to include hockey as a sport im sure detroit is up there. and for all the people that say detroit isnt a great place to live, outside of the city limits its actually a great place to live.
-
people on here honestly dont think fedorov deserves to be in the hockey hall of fame? maybe im being a super homer, but wasnt fedorov considered a top 5 player in the world for a majority of his career? hes gonna score 500 goals, he is generally known as an outstanding 2 way player, and he can do some special things in washington this year. either i feel too highly of him or some people feel too low about him, but if he isnt hall of fame worthy, who is? p.s. is Peter Forsberg HHOF worthy?
-
haha sorry. I think ozzie does deserve to have his number retired, but based on the other retired numbers and how dominant they were on the ice and how much they did for the wings after their playing careers were over, i cant make an argument for osgood. Also, putting him in the HHOF is being debating (i dont know why, if he had any other name hed be a 1st ballot lock) but i just think if a case has to be made for the HHOF, a case can't be made for the wings to retire your jersey. I hope im wrong.

1 Terry Sawchuk, G, 1949–55, 1957–64 & 1968–69, number retired March 6, 1994 7 Ted Lindsay, LW, 1944–57 & 1964–65, number retired November 10, 1991 9 Gordie Howe, RW, 1946–71, number retired March 12, 1972 10 Alex Delvecchio, C, 1950–73, number retired November 10, 1991 12 Sid Abel, LW, 1938–52, number retired April 29, 1995 19 Steve Yzerman, C, 1983–2006, number retired January 2, 2007 (the banner features the captain "C" to honor his tenure as the longest serving captain in NHL history) 99 Wayne Gretzky, Although he was never a member of the Red Wings, his number was retired league-wide February 6, 2000 Wayne shouldnt be retired. If 99 is retired, 4 and 66 should be too IMO. maybe not 66. or they could retire it and unretire like 3 times. but Number 4 should be retired league wide if 99 is. Yzerman and Howe are obvious retired numbers Sawchuk is one of the all-time greatest goalies. His number deserves to be up there. Lindsay and Abel were both part of the Production Line and the wings dynasty, and they both held front office jobs. Ted was a great GM and Sid was a coach and an analyst. Delvecchio was a class act on and off the ice. he won the lady byng 3 times, has an NHL record for most games with his only team for a career, and retired second in games played, assists and points on the all-time list. he also was a GM for the wings. Steve Yzerman and Gordie Howe are the only players to have their numbers retired before helping the wings win off the ice. Ozzie is no Gordie or Stevie. and for that matter, he has never been and will never been talked about in the same echelon as the other retired numbers. Unless he gets 40+ wins three times, 3 vezinas, 3 jennings, and another cup or two, AND comes on as goalie coach or NA goalie scout or something and does a lot of charity work, i dont see his number getting retired, just based on the other retired jerseys.

But his desire to win trumped money, surely a noble sentiment somewhat lacking these days (see Chicago Blackhawk Brian Campbell and Toronto Maple Leaf Jeff Finger). so within the next 8 years chicago isnt going to be a contender? and if Jeff Finger turned down that deal hes dumber than the leafs for offering it.

50.7 "100 Percent Rule" for Multi-Year SPCs. The difference between the stated Player Salary and Bonuses in the first two League Years of an SPC cannot exceed the amount of the lower of the two League Years (or if the same, that "same" amount). Thereafter, in all subsequent League Years of the SPC, the variation in Player Salary and Bonuses from one League Year to another may not exceed that amount. This is the portion of the CBA Tom Benjamin is referring to when it comes to differing values between years of a multiyear contract, which is illustrated with this example (one of eight provided): "An SPC provides for $2 million in Player Salary in Year 1. In Year 2, the SPC may not provide for less than $1 million, or provide for more than $4 million." What that means is that many of the various loopholes speculated on over at Sabermetric Research would be invalid. It's also fair to assume that any other type of extreme salary cap circumvention would be frowned upon by the league. UPDATE The most extreme cap circumvention possible under the terms of the CBA appears to look something like so (taken from a commenter on Benjamin's site): Year: 1: $10-million 2: $5-million 3: $2.5-million 4: $1.25-million 5: $625,000 6: $500,000 7: $500,000 8: $500,000 9: $500,000 10; $500,000 Cap hit: $2.188-million Now, let's say the player signed to above contract is in his early 30s, the Chris Drury range, and manages to play four of the 10 years specified on this deal. The cap hit would have been just $2.188-million for those four seasons, but the player in question would have received $18.75-million, or an average of $4.688-million a year, or close to 86 per cent of the total value of the deal. As far as I can tell, there aren't any provisions in the CBA to prevent a deal like this (although I'm still looking). source: http://mirtle.blogspot.com/2007/07/collect...nt-100-per.html

since pi and e were mentioned, why not i? seriously though, wearing 66 or 87 would be priceless.

You could make the argument for wings goaltending to be anywhere from 1 to 20. Reasons being, what criteria do you base it on. Common ones are: names, the ability to steal games, and clutch saves. Osgood and Conklin arent exactly associated wit elite goaltending, and the wings dont call on their goalies to steal games as much as say vancouver or new jersey. But one thing no one can argue with is Chris Osgood made ALMOST EVERY big save he needed to make. I can recall game 5 vs. nashville. granted it was a tough shot, but a luongo or nabakov could make that save. Same goes for game 5 OT vs. pittsburg. And the goal in game 5 vs. pittsburg to send it to overtime was a save he needed to make. As far as goaltenders go, Id rank detroit between 8 and 12. As far as team defense #1 as far as team offense #1 (i think hossa can make up the 5 goals montreal had on us) Overal i say team defense brings down goals against significantly and it makes up for our lack of an elite status goaltender. That, plus Ozzie is a beast when called upon. Therefore, I say the wings are the team to beat this year.

Chicago got an A? Really? If they can trade Khabibulin to Tampa for Boyle maybe midseason if kolzig doesnt work out. That way Chicago gets a Dman and Tampa gets boyle 6.7 off the books for next season. I cant see this happening but as they say stranger things have happened and you know Khabibulin is on the way out and ive heard many times boyle is too so who knows? Obviously picks/prospects would have to be involved. I wouldnt give the hawks an A for 3 reasons: as good as campbell is, they overpayed. They still need a top 4 dman and a top 6 forward (i feel like Lang is a 3rd or 4th liner these days) and they didnt need Huet. They didnt need to waste the cap space, they didnt need to sign another goalie to a long term especially after khabibulin turned out, and finally, overpayed in terms of dollars and years is an understatement edit: im stupid and confused boyes and boyle.
