Gotta love the classic goal from the heavens. The Wings will take it but the NHL absolutely needs to correct that from happening in the future. In ways it was redemption for the SJ goal against years ago. Holy crap. Full cardiac arrest mode near the end there! -

How do you not call that goaltender interference? Good on Jimmy for sticking up for his territory. What garbage. Glad to see the team get fired up. Too often this season have the Wings looked lifeless. -
Absolutely. It seems that almost every team around the Wings are involved in a 3 point game just to add salt to the wound in the trove of regulation losses the Wings are piling up. In addition to the Wings' critical regulation loss to the Rangers: Montreal, Ottawa, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia (SOL) all went to OT or SO tonight.

I do not even remember the last time Detroit gave up nearly 50 shots on goal. It certainly is a different era. It is like the bizzaro Detroit Red Wings out there. Mediocre all the way around (except Jimmy tonight). I am really starting to think it is time for a shakeup in management from GM to Head Coach, especially if they are disqualified from the Stanley Cup playoffs. The complacency is really disturbing. Night after night we hear the same excuses yet see the same results. This is everything but Detroit Red Wings hockey. Since when did Atlanta Thrashers style hockey become acceptable all of a sudden?
-
Absolutely. lol. Detroit caught a break there.
-
Excellent idea. I have a list going that also includes some retired officials (e.g. Mick McGeough).
-
Nice stop by Howard. Holy smokes... a goaltender interference call in favor of the Wings? Somebody pinch me!

It is only a matter of time before these odd man rushes costs Detroit.

This game was typical of this season - once again the offense was unable to finish, the defense had several miscues that led to goals against, and the goalie surrendered softies that totally sucked the life out of the team. The WIngs' offense is ranked 22nd in the league (that alone speaks for itself). The team in general seems to be incapable of having a puck possession game. The defense gets lazy and typically forfeits odd man rushes in almost every game (I am specifically getting tired of seeing our d-men literally being out-hustled or floating around aimlessly while in their own zone). Howard has won less than 30% of his games, is barely cracking a 90% save percentage, and averages nearly 3 goals against a game. Quite frankly, Detroit is lucky they are not further down in the standings given the preceding facts (it certainly is good Detroit is no longer in the Western Conference as their win percentage against such teams is a pathetic .375). The real scary thing is management and the head coach seem to have become complacent with certain players (e.g. Dan Cleary). I will never understand the rationale for benching and sending Jordin Tootoo to Grand Rapids when he could easily be replacing Dan Cleary. It will be interesting to see where the Wings are at in the standings and what happens by the trade deadline.

5 for 5 on the PK. It's nice to see the PK relatively solid for a change.
-
Dag gummit. How does that not go?
-
Bingo!

It's rare to see the Wings get that "intent to blow" call. lol. Lord knows we've had a bushel full of those against us in the past few years.

GDT Alumni Game Lineup / Leafs @ Wings Alumni NBCS and CBC 1pm

Woohoo! That was such a sweet game! My favorite part was the Micky to Feds goal. Where did Ozzie go? lol. Legace really bailed him out! -
John Tortorella comes across as a little crybaby whenever he does not get his way. It is the same story every day for him - blame the world! He has no business coaching with such illegitimate leadership. Sure, there are times when tirades or explicit criticism may be necessary (think of Jim Leyland circa 2006), but not seemingly every day.

ECSF : (7) Ottawa Senators vs (1) Pittsburgh Penguins

Penguins always seem to get powerplays in OT. lol -
My goodness. What a sickening feeling this must be for Leafs fans.

The San Jose Sharks are the fakest team in hockey. The officials were completely gullible and bought into all of their dives and embellishments. It is funny too - you would see a San Jose player commit an equivalent act upon a Canucks player, yet the officials rarely called anything. Why not just explicitly write a new rule declaring it illegal to touch a San Jose player? Just looking at a San Jose player the wrong way apparently draws an infraction. This series reminded me so much of the recent Detroit - San Jose series and it just made me want to puke.
-
I cannot believe the double standard that is being displayed in this series by the NHL officials. The Sharks year after year display this disgusting brand of hockey full of flopping and diving. I hope they never win a championship with such illegitimacy.

I would not mind seeing that scenario. Columbus has shown a tremendous work ethic and I would love to see them take on Chicago in the first round.

Love the GDT! Finally closure to this strange tightly contested regular season comes tonight. Go Wings!
