That's too bad it's like that! I never understand why people have to jeer the other team...just cheer louder for your own! I personally like the fact that we have a team that gives us a challenge. I think sometimes in the past the Wings have lost their sharpness/edge because they weren't challenged enough by the 50 bazzilion games against the Central Division. I'd like to see the Blues come back as a force too!! The Blues and Blackhawks games have always been my favorite to watch play the Wings.

It's worth a shot! I'm tired of watching the Wings have to struggle to win games 5-4. I'm happy they're finding a way to win...but that's just too much. They're gonna have to start skating harder and faster every shift though. If they don't they're gonna continue to get called for a lot of penalties! I wanna see the Wings start doing the little things right. No cute passes in the neutral zone or defensive zone. skate hard every shift. If you're gonna dump the puck in you better make sure you skate your butt off to be the first to retrieve it. I think it's gonna have to start with winning some games 2-1 because the focus for the Wings is going to have to be on the defensive side of the puck. Once they start doing those things consistently well, they will force the other team into mistakes and out of that will come the 4-2, 5-2, 6-2 victories we are used to seeing from the Wings.

Cool!! Congrats Nick!

I look at it this way: The Wings have maybe played 4 full 60 minute games, start to finish (IMO). Yet we are 17-4-4. That's pretty darn good. If this is what the Wings can accomplish while playing mediocre then we will be alright later on. The important thing during the course of the season is to get as many points as you possibly can over 82 games. I'll worry a little more in April if the Wings and/or Ozzie aren't playing the way they can. Now having said all that, it is frustruating for me to watch Ozzie struggle so much. I've found myself saying, "OH! Ozzie! you shoulda had that!" way more than I'd like. So I can only imagine how much it's bugging him!! I know he's struggling big time and I hope he will find his "groove" again. I personally right now couldn't care less if he allows 6 goals in a game, so long as we win.

All I said was "IF" anyone can make it happen it would be Ken Holland. I didn't say I think it's going to happen. I wish it would! I am realistic and I do live on the ground not in the clouds. There's nothing wrong with being optimistic which is something that is sorely lacking on this board some times!!
-
AMEN to that!! I agree totally! If anyone CAN make it happen it will be Mr. Holland! I'm hoping that Hank, Mule & Hossa love playing on the same team enough to do what they can to help make it work as well!

Wings win 3-1. I'm hoping for another solid effort from the whole team! Hossa (PPG), Hudler (PPG) & Zetterberg.

The game day threads keep getting better and better! Nice job! Wings have a better, more rested effort tonight. Wings win 3-2. Zetterberg (PPG), Hossa (PPG) & Franzen.

1. Joe Sakic 2. Mike Modano 3. Saku Koivu 4. Martin Biron 5. Jonathan Toews

4-2 Wings. Hossa, Meech, Datsyuk (PPG) & Zetterberg (ENG) I hope it's a fun game to watch! I love original 6 matchups! Hopefully the refs just let 'em play the friggin game! Kinda like they did in Vancouver...minus the call in OT. I coulda done without that one! lol

5-3 Wings. Zetterberg (PPG), Filppula, Samuelsson (PPG), Lidstrom (PPG) & Hossa (PPG).
-
Jim Hughson!! For me nothing beats hearing: GREAT SAVE BY OSGOOD! or Datsyuk to Zetterberg tipped in front....SCORE! TOMAS HOLMSTROM!
-
4-3 Wings win in a Shootout. Mule, Flip & Rafi (PPG) in regulation. Z & Pavs score in shootout. Who cares who scores for them!

I must be old fashioned because I wish they would go back to the orange & black jerseys they had in the days of Campbell & Wales! They're ok! They do look a lot like the Blue Jackets jerseys but the colors are right for Montreal. Oh well! I just enjoy the game itself. It's always cool to see player play on the same team that otherwise never will.

Let's keep track: How many games the refs call late penalties
Nick137 replied to stormboy's topic in General
I always laugh when the word "conspiracy" is thrown around. Personally when I think of a conspiracy I think secretive, covert. There is nothing being hidden here, or at least being hidden well. I personally think the refs are just being told: Watch the team that's leading with an eagle-eye and if it remotely looks like it could, in any way, be a penalty "call it". I also feel that there are way too many penalties called period! I'm one of those people that just wants to see them play! Let them battle for the puck!! I get really miffed when they call all the little chincy things! If it doesn't effect the play and it's not excessive...let it go!! It will be obvious if it's out of hand or too much! -
NOOOOO never!! haha

I think the Statistic that amazed me the most, and I believe it was a Red Wings game I saw it on, was the number of penalty minutes called against a team that's ahead versus a team that's behind. I hadn't realized it was that bad. I noticed it a fair amount in Wings games this year, but I remember how penalties were called against the Wings after their last cup in the 2002-2003 season. That coupled with the fact that I don't believe the Wings have played a complete 60 mins at their level yet this season made me think I was being a "Fan" instead of fair. After seeing that though, I realize that this is a big issue. It's always easy to think your team is getting the "shaft" if the refs don't call everything you think should be called for your team. But now we have stats to back-up how blatant it is. It's a concerted effort to help the team that's behind; and while I will admit it has added excitement in the form of me having a heart attack a few times, it's wrong to do this! I refuse to watch the NBA because I dislike the referee-ing so much. I suppose considering where Bettman came from it's a wonder it took this long for referees to start controlling outcomes. The difference, I believe is, unlike the NBA whose refs can be bought; the NHL has quality people that put on the stripes. I wonder how they sleep at night knowing that what they are doing isn't only unfair, but wrong.
