I don't think there's any doubt the Adam Oates trade was the worst in the last 25-30 years. As already mentioned the Shanahan and Schneider trades were among the better ones. And I know he wasn't a superstar at the time but bringing in Larry Murphy for future considerations was a steal. He complemented Lidstrom perfectly on the blue line. Also in 2000 re-acquiring Larionov for Yan Golubovsky.

I thought the site held up pretty well. A few slowdowns but nothing like what I experienced on the NHL Network and TSN feeds.

Good move...Fills a glaring need right now. With 4 D-men out and no guarantees that any of them will come back 100% healthy this makes sense.

Salvador was going to be UFA after this season and indicated he was going to look elswhere. I think they could have gotten more but from what I heard Cam Janssen is a St. Louis local boy.

Somehow I don't think Lapointe fulfills this need. 2nd line goal scorer and blue-line depth are not part of his resume anymore. I think most on this board will agree that those are our biggest needs.

Funny how alot of the people here wanting Fedorov, McCarty, Roenick, Blake and other players on the tail end of their careers are the same people that ***** about the Wings being too old and not giving the young players a chance to play.

Those are reasons to put him in the booth as a color-commentator....not the dressing room of the top team in the league. And I find little humor in him...its mostly sour grapes. In the end our opinions won't matter. The likelihood of JR becoming a Wing is pretty non-existant. He's happy in San Jose.

Roenick is not the answer and is definitely not 'one of the voices of hockey'. Hull and Cheli have serious insight to the game. What does JR do? Cry about losing a game because of the officiating (just did this two weeks ago) Cry about not getting enough ice time. Cry about not getting selected for the Olympic team and publicly state he will never support USA hockey again. Do you see the pattern? He's a chronic whiner. Keep him out of the Wings locker room! Sorry to dis your favorite player but its because of the things I listed that several of us really despise him.

Lets make sure he can actually HELP the team before talking about what a great pickup he'd be for the playoffs. That said I am pulling for him to make it back into the league one day.
