Good price for the right term. Even though he'll be 39 at the end of the contract , only $1.25 will hit the cap that year and he'll probably still be speedier than 75% of the players on our team.
-
Originally I thought he got his nose broke but the blood was pouring from higher up so I think he got his forehead split open. To his credit he stayed on his feet after taking that punch and took some more punishment.
-
Chara's back on the bench...no broken hand.
-
Damn!! Chara just busted Koci up good!! Koci definitely has a broken nose. Lots of blood in this one.

Everyone who said Ellis shouldn't be up full time

I didn't think he looked great in preseason and didn't notice him much in his limited ice time the first few games. Seems to have gotten a comfort level now and every time he's on the ice with Downey they are bringing energy or making something happen. He got over 8 minutes of ice time yesterday. His increase is coming at Hudler's expense (only 5 minutes of ice yesterday). -
Hey I really do hope he signs for less but the Wings typically reward players who have stayed loyal to the organization. Sure he's older and isn't as good as he used to be, but he's still a top 3 defensemen in the league and will be payed accordingly. If Kronwall makes $3 and Rafalski $6 do you really think we're being fair by saying he should sign for $5 or $6? He has earned a raise and should get one.
-
Nick just won another Norris and Rafalski is making $6. IMO there's no way we get him for less than $8.5

Couple good scraps so far tonight between the Ducks and Blues. I missed the King-Parros fight but was able to see the Moen-Walker and May-Jackman bouts and they were pretty entertaining. Good hard hitting game between these two teams so far heading into the second intermission.
-
Sounds like we'll soon see. They just announced during tonight's game that he'll be getting called up. Franzen will go on the IR to make room since he's a week away from even practicing.

Best and worst Wings decisions in the last 10 years.
johnnyoski replied to daniel1's topic in General
Within 10 years. Best ----- Trade for Chelios - and we thought he only had a few years left in the tank back then Not re-signing Legace -he is not the clutch goalie needed for the playoffs Not re-signing Marty Lapointe - great while he was here, but getting a $5.5 mil/season contract??? Worst ------ Free agent signing: (tie) Krupp and Hatcher Trade: 50th round pick for Cory Cross Free agent let go: Larionov -
Is this really a question that needs to be asked? The achievements you listed in the original post gives anyone that doesn't even know hockey the answer. Nic will be the last Red Wing to have his number retired for quite some time.

Lehtonen has looked pretty bad this year. Not that he's getting much help in front of him. I watched a bit of the game last night and they looked lethargic.
-
Agree. To this point he has been the biggest disappointment within the defense corps, especially considering he's making $3 mil/season. He'll make the occasional open ice hit but he looks out of position in the defensive zone and has coughed the puck up more than he should. Offensively he's getting chances but isn't putting his shots on the net. Still early enough in the season to give him a pass, but he's gotta start showing me more by the time we hit the 20-25 game mark.

Wow...what a difference between the Nashville and Phoenix feeds. Is that Terry Crisp's dumb ass still doing color commentating for the Preds? "I have no idea what precipated that one". He's either playing stupid or really is senile and shouldn't be calling hockey games.
-
Sammy is out until at least Thursday...you can expect to see Downey in the lineup again tonight.
-
Burke will make some BS excuse for Pronger saying he's so tall that its not really a high hit.
-
Good job posting that story 96warrior. That answers the question for a lot of people. Also good to see Downey still with an upbeat attitude and not pulling a JR 'play me or I'm going to watch the game at the bar' ultimatum.

Where in the World is Carm...I mean Darren McCarty
johnnyoski replied to wingsrock34's topic in General
Please no!...Have his past 'business decisions' not alarmed you enough? Mac is a great teammate to have and is probably fun to have a beer with but I wouldn't want him in my front office. -
I would also prefer to see Downey in the lineup for Ellis tonight, even if it is only for 4-7 minutes of ice time. It will be interesting to see if any ill will from last year's playoff series carries over to tonight's game. 5-4 Wings victory!
-
No. But it clearly shows that Ellis is above Downey on the depth chart. Otherwise why didn't they expose Ellis to waivers instead?
-
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Ellis got the start over Downey. The whole waiver thing should have pointed to this. Glad to see Flip get a chance on the top line.
-
Barch could have pounded him last night. Once he got the jersey over Tootoo's head he just let the linesmen break it up. I'll give ToolTool credit for taking on a big boy but I hope he gave Barch some beer money for not wiping the ice with him.
