i just read on tsn that avery will most likely get 6 games or could get up to 10 games suspension. that is the absolute dumbest thing i have ever heard. a one game suspension is outrageous, led alone 10. stupid.

avery was simply trying to stir the pot and get people to watch the game and to make it more interesting, such as in boxing when opponents talk trash about one another. i realize the nhl isnt boxing, but the game would have still been hyped up far more than a normal regular season game had avery had played in it. sadly, the nhl missed a great opportunity to market this, and to attract new fans, and decided to suspend him. lolz. how do u suspend him for saying "sloppy seconds" yet when he called laraque the n word everything was cool. stoopid move by bettman IMO. avery will be bought out, and i think he would really strive in toronto as a part of burkes new team. him and burke would really get along well IMO.

here's something i've been thinking about.... if avery was on the wings today and was pulling these antics... how would the team react? my guess is that s*** would not fly with bacock... and i actually think that if he was a member of the wings holland, illitch, yzerman, babcock and co. would do a good job taming avery. the guy is a valuable asset to a team if he would just tone it down a notch. what do u guys think?

Ok I think that a roster shakeup is necessary to get the wings out of this little funk. We all know that despite their record, they're still playing like s*** defensively. Babcock, please bring up Ericsson. He's ready for the NHL and I think a shakeup in the lineup would help greatly. Also, give Leino a shot already!

lolz at your moves. none will happen, and neil for kopecky would never ever happen. only move i like andi think will happen is bench maltby move mccarty back down to gr. then bring leino up and put him on line 2 with z and sammy/cleary/huds whoever.

maltby will be in the preess box next season IMO and maybe most of this season.

prediction: leino and ericsson will start 50 games

I have just been thinkin about those final roster spots and I'm trying to decide who's job is safe. Will Holland and Babcock stick with loyalty or will they choose the best players to make the squad? Maltby- Has really lost a step in the past few years, PK skills have decreased and there isn't as much of a need for him anymore. We could really drop him and replace him with a much cheaper and younger player. However, he does have vetran leadership and he has won 4 cups with this team, but is that enough to keep him around? Kopecky- The guy is extremely injury prone and from what I've seen i haven't been that impressed. He shows signs of offensive brilliance, but not very often. I like his size, but that's about it. McCarty-Hometown favorite, but IMO there's no way he makes this squad. Took too many dumb penalties because he's too slow, and is no longer an elite fighter. His comeback story was great, but our deep is too deep and talented to keep him around. Will his history with the organization get him a roster spot? Sammy-Shoots way too much and often at the goalies boobies. However, he is cheap but still it's a roster spot. He makes boneheads plays defensively as well. Does he have a guranteed roster spot? Leino- I must say he is the player I am most intrigued about. Aside from seeing blurry YouTube videos, I've never seen him play, and I can't see the Red Wings going out and signing him if they didn't want him on the team. IMO by the time the halfway point for the season rolls around, Leino will be on second line. Thats just a prediction, but from what I have read, he seems greaet. Helm-Showed a lot of promise in the playoffs, and has some wheels. But would he be better off playing another year in GR? I don't think so, but what do Babs and Holland think? Downey- Great team player, great enforcer, terrible skater, below average hockey player. Does he make this squad based on his fighting skilsl alone? My prediction 4th line. Leino Draper Helm Maltby

I didn't mean to turn this into a Sammy debate. I'm not sayin the guy is worthless. All I'm sayin is that there are cheaper replacements and we are currently over the cap. Leino and Helm could do what sammy can do and thats 2 players for the price of one. Anyhow this isn't about sammy only so quit turning this into a Sammy bashing and or praising thread it was not the purpose of the thread.

Sammy does shoot too much at the goalies chest, but please tell me about these bonehead plays defensively that he supposedly makes. Sammy is a phenomenal defensive player that makes less mistakes defensively than all but a couple forwards on the roster. He plays the point on the second PP unit for a reason. On top of that, he makes practically nothing and is good for chipping in roughly 40 points a season. Are you out of your mind? He plays point on 2nd PP on the power play because he has a heavy shot... thats it. He's awful on the point IMO and is a liability for the otehr team to score shorthanded goals. I woudl MUCH rather have Stewie back there because he too has a heavy shot. Sammy does not make much money, but he makes enough to keep us over the cap. He is also taking up a roster space. I really don't have that big of a problem with the guy, just feel that there are cheaper replacements. edit: forgot to use quotes whoops.

how is kopeckys potential through the roof? he's been on the team for 3 years now and hasn't done anything. he's extremely injury prone and he's 26.... he should be entering his prime.. not rotting on 4th line.

the fact that you even compared malkin to gretzky shows how little you know about the game of hockey. malkin has many many years to go to even be mentioned in the same sentence as the great one.

Most Overrated on Wings: Filppula. People talk about him like he's a straight up god when in all reality we do not need him. Franzen could easily center that second line and Cleary (who scored more points than Flip) could slide into the 2nd line. Just for a comparison Flip: GP 78 G 19 A 17 P 36 Hudler: GP 81 G 13 A 29 P 42 Flip is on 2nd line and Huds is on 4th. Flip gets double the amnt of ice time Huds gets. Thats why I would say the most underrated Wing is either Hudler or Helm. Most Overrated NHL players: Joe Thornton, Geno Malkin. Both are playoff chokers so I really don't give a s*** how many points they put up in the regular seaso,n when they disappear in the playoffs. And don't give me that "oohh geno had a great playoffs up until the finals." The finals IS the most important series. If you disappear in the finals, you're not an elite player IMO. Cheechoo is also highly overrated due to the fact that he can't even score goals anymore and he's with Thornton lol. Scott Niedermeyer: Can't hit, but has great speed. Not even close to best D man in the league IMO and people put him up for the Norris yearly. Most Underrated NHL Player: Hemsky on the Oilers. He tore us apart in '06 and is a phenomenal playmaker who can dangle like nobodies business. Anze Kopitar: The best player that no one sees play due to the fact that hes stuck in LA.
