I don't see Atlanta necessarily biting on Marleau. He is older and they are looking for younger more up and coming. If say SJ throws some of their young talent along the lines of setoguchi into the mix, then we have a problem. Like I said we will see, but I am simply arguing Flip in my book is worth giving up for Hossa, who again for those that cannot grasp this, will NOT be a rental and will be a wing for a couple years minimum
-
That's the thing though Aussie buddy, no one knows who the front runners are, but with 4 teams in the running, and SJ and Anaheim each being one of them, montreal the other (which wouldnt bother me too much since theyre in the east, and i dont see them going TOO deep into the playoffs) that makes it a 50% chance its one of those 2 teams. We will see but in my opinion flip is expendable. I love flip, and would never trade him for a rental, but this is a different situation. That and the security of negating Anaheim or SJ an NHL elite sniper, is fine in my book.
-
Hardly. Just basic common sense knowing that if Anaheim or SJ come out with Hossa, it would make it that much more difficult to play them. Its simple math really, you add a superstar player to an enemy team, its bad news. Not too complicated i hope.
-
Once again, for the 50th time, Hossa would not be walking straight back to his team in our situation. I was referring to Sundin, which is probably what he will be doing if he is dealt to a playoff team. I have faith in Holland that he will not be throwing away a younger guy like Flip for a quick rental player. He has stated in interviews that he is being VERY cautious about which prospects he gives away, and that in order for our young players to be traded it has to be a high end player, example lying in Hossa.
-
Thats another argument, I would be willing to part with flip with the additional security of SJ or Anaheim not getting Hossa.
-
thanks for bringing this to the front again therock. As people hopefully will see now: 1. Hossa will NOT be a rental 2. It IS feasible to sign him under the contract and still have room to spare
-
I can confirm this, it was posted on the Thrashers forums that even though it could not be released which team was doing so, apparently one of the four teams in the running (SJ, Anaheim, Detroit, and Montreal) are apparently leaps ahead of the other three and might be in the 48 hour negotiation period for re-signing Hossa.
-
wait. Wouldn't this be the epitome of loyalty? Willing to leave the team you so dearly love to benefit them in the long run, and then coming back to them instead of staying with a stronger team, which is probably where Sundin will end up if he is indeed traded. The logic seems flawed here, and the attacks on the trade deadline are laughable in my opinion, you take away the trade deadline, you take away all strategy in planning a playoff run. It adds to hockey, it does not subtract anything.

exactly younguns...yours and eva's math usually tends to be right on, so until someone provides solid concrete math that we cannot handle Hossa under the cap, I am going to stick with those mock lineups. So many people post that we cant do such and such under the cap as scare tactics as if the cap is impossible to meet if you have 4-5 good players on your team.
-
It has already been proven that we can re-sign hossa under the cap system. Do you have specific math proving we can't or is this just speculation?
-
I dont think younguns is saying that. He is saying that while babs might have said that about flip, if the GM and others deem it that Flip is expendable for Hossa, then so be it. Babs' man love for flip wont overrule the good of the team.
-
Wishful thinking or based evidence? According to many sources regarded the Hossa trade, flip is at the center of conversations. This trade is heating up and Flip is our best chance of landing Hossa. Flip is expendable

nah just no new developments, plus the whole facebook scandal of 2008 has died down

booooooooo, hahaha welcome aboard

indeed, this person is still posting hahaha

could just mean he/she is still on this thread but stepped away from the comp or something.... edit: i see what you mean now, didnt know you could do that

wtf?

I just got done reading the Thrashers forums just to get a perspective from their fans. 1. They fully expect DW to screw this trade up 2. They seem to want a trade with SJ more than anyone, mentioning setoguchi, cheechoo, marleau...the usuals 3. Mention of detroit is active, some idiot posted he wanted huds flip and kronner. I laughed but the more serious guys posted flip + an up and coming d-man would suffice. From their points, i think giving up flip + one of our young D men would be completely acceptable. Hell throw in a draft pick if we re-sign hossa.
-
same I am just stating that flip for hossa straight up is about as big a steal you can get. Unless we're throwing draft pics, but atlanta stated they didn't want that. I am thinking if they think that highly of Flip, throw in Kopay. Two good up and coming guys for hossa, which is what atlanta is looking for.
-
if its hossa for just flip, what a steal, no offense to flip
