Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

I don't see Ryder being anything more solid than an offer including Flip and Huds, and with Atlanta wanting to build a winning team, they are probably looking for youth more than anything, and Marleau isn't exactly young. The Thrash already have vets on their team including Recchi and others.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

Sharks GM Doug Wilson has upped the ante by offering C Patrick Marleau as part of a trade for Thrashers F Marian Hossa, according to the Toronto Sun. That would seem to match the requirement stated by Thrashers GM Don Waddell, who has said he wants immediate help if he trades Hossa. "You make lots of tough decisions," Waddell told the Toronto Sun. "I still remain with three options: The first one is closing in on us with the deadline and that is signing him. The second is trading him and the third is keeping him to try to win the Southeast Division, which is very important to us. We're two points out of a playoff spot. That's big for us." "We're talking about Marian Hossa and some teams feel like they can make a deal that will put them over the edge. "We won't make a deal for a first-round pick or a second-pick, that doesn't make any sense for us. We have to make a deal that will allow us to put pieces in our lineup right away." Red Wings GM Ken Holland told the Detroit Free Press he's reluctant to give up prospects. "I've talked to some people, some teams, but it's like a poker game, with everyone playing one team against another," Holland told the Free Press. "Most teams are looking for our top prospects. I'm not saying I'm not going to do it, but that won't be for just a mid-level player. We have to balance short-term and long-term interests." Hossa told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week the chances of him re-signing before the trade deadline are "very slim." And that increases the likelihood that Hossa, due to be an unrestricted free agent this summer, will be moved before Feb. 26. Waddell has received calls from at least 10 teams, including the Stars, Canadiens, Bruins, Senators, Rangers, Ducks, Red Wings and Sharks, according to the Sun. As Per ESPN Insider, dated Feb 20th.

    Darren McCarty Progress Thread

I completely agree Loo, I would much rather see D-mac getting a chance to do what Drake has already had half a season's chance to do, and still hasn't done it.

go read any publication concerning a Hossa trade and you'll see I am right. You wont even have to wait until the deadline

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

how many times does it take for people to get it through their heads. Hossa would not, i repeat would NOT be a rental player. He is looking to sign a contract with the team he is traded with. End of story

lol its fake, flip wouldnt have a facebook that he actually runs
  12. I agree, i can't see sundin coming, I think Hossa has more of a chance of landing here
  13. excellent point, your argument seems flawless. Even using eklund to confirm your rumor? Sturdy argument
  14. If you learned to read, you would see that i stated landing either Sundin or Hossa, not both. I never claimed we could sign both.
  15. if you go check the hossa thread, you will see landing either hossa or sundin under the cap is possible, it is broken down number by number there. I fail to see how this is some dream trade land

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

thats the key. Remember we prob wont be resigning one of those younger guys, Huds or Flip because they will probably be traded for the Hossa deal. I think lilja wont get a raise, or i would hope not. That only gives us cleary, Z, huds or flip, and franzen to re-sign. I dont see Franzen commanding that much still. Cleary and Z would be the main concerns. Oh, with possibly sammy gone, that frees up cap space as well. I think it will def be manageable if we play the funds right.
  17. I agree, I dont see Kronner going anywhere, especially after the way he's picked up the play this year

Scary if one of those 3 acquire him.
  19. because sometimes when people say it, it gets written down, its not a tough concept, i was simply wondering if there was a link, not asking for a link to verify what you said.
  20. One makes him a rental, one makes him a non-rental
  21. if its 2 years with the leafs, forget it. We don't need him as a rental, I would rather make a bid for Hossa who wants a long term contract with the team he heads to

thats true, i forgot about cleary

Hossa has been proven to not score in the playoffs? Look at his backup crew. Datsyuk also had problems in the playoffs with an even better supporting crew, but we didn't just write him off because of that. What exactly has Flip done that makes him the next coming of superstar? I see room for improvement and he might be good down the road, but who knows. I think we have a strong enough team to make a solid run for the cup, and I think Hossa plus a cheap strong d-man is what we need. We lack a true sniper.
