I think we are possibly the only 2 people here that don't think this was intentional or illegal...
-
Come on now, it was a clean check, Downey fought him, and kicked his ass, it is behind it. Lapierre hit Lids, he got his. Do I want them to keep on him and check him hard all night yes, but to run him into the boards and do dirty hits to him, that is not cool.
-
Its a DISCUSSION board where people come to DISCUSS things... And no he got 5 fighting 2 instigating 10 misconduct.
-
I don't blame Laperiere, it was a clean check, it was just bad circumstances for Lids....was I happy to see the snot kicked out of him HELL YES. Do I resent him for it no, it was definately not intentional.
-
If Lids is out long term it could be a very bad thing. At least Rafi is supposed to be back on Friday's game. Lilja, Meech, Lebda, Chelios and Quincey have all really stepped up tonight, Lilja Meech and Chelli in particular. Good to see DOwney kick the snot out of Laperiere.

Yeah but what I am saying is the Wings can't afford him anyways. Lidstrom-7.45 Million Raflaski-6 million Datsyuk-6.7 million Lets assume Z re-signs for 7 million Then Hossa added at 8 million I think he is looking for: $35.15 million dollars for 5 players. Lets assume over the next 2 years, when Z's new contract woul be in affect, and the last year of Lids contract, the cap is up to 55-57 million dollars (what it seems to be headed to based on the 3-5 up as this years expectations) That leaves 20-22 million to sign another 17 players....That means an average of 1.17-1.29 million per player on roster.... There is NO way that the Wings can put forth a good team in that scenario, considering Ozzie has 2 million Kronner has 3 million, and Cleary and Filpulla will get raises to about 3 million each by that time....the rest of the roster would be complete and utter crap and it is just not feasable to bring in Hossa in my opinion -
Does anybody know whether or not signing McCarty means he needs to pass through waivers before he can be activated, because I think that Robitaille had to do that when he was signed by Ottawa, and I'm not sure he would pass through waivers unclaimed....

High price to pay for a guy that will NOT be re-signed by the team after the year... -

Detroit Gets: Sergei Fedorov Columbus gets: Derek Meech, Conditional Pick(could be a first based on production and more based on if he re-signs), another prospect Detroit Gets: Branislav Mezei Florida Gets: 2nd round pick Roster spot made by moving Cleary to the IR Adding one move: Sign McCarty, Waive Downey Edited to Add McCarty and clarify how Mezei would fit in the roster space. -
Oh my goodness, a logical post about Aaron Downey!!! That is the point I was trying to make earlier but I did not put it in as many great words. Downey's job is energy, he hasn't done it. Ellis could bring energy tonight since he wants to earn some playing time. Babs should play Ellis instead of Downey tonight. People on the board are so in love with the fact that Aaron Downey is an enforcer that he can do no wrong in anyone's eyes here, and should be given ice time every game. He is a part time enforcer that floats from team to team as they realize they can get better enforcers, or don't need one. There is a reason for that. Don't get me wrong I like Downey, but he is not as wonderful as LGWers think he is. Your point on how Hudler is bashed for not scoring in the same amount of minutes that Downey didn't fight in proves that people love Downey blindly and is a point I think is 100% valid.
-
In reality Downey didn't do his job today. His job is to create energy with the small amount of ice time that he gets, and he didn't do that today. He made a few bad defensive plays and he really didn't bring any energy to his shifts, that is his only job, create energy, which he didn't.
-
I think Holland is going to see how bad that he needs to re-sign Cleary this offseason.
-
I agree, I think they will acquire a big defenceman who is a depth defenseman, not a big name guy like blake, as well as some scoring depth, not a guy like Sundin. Holland has said he doesn't want to mortgage his future, and I think that he will stick to that.
-
To be honest he isn't alone. I HOPE that McCarty will be back this season, but I think next season is a much more feasable reality
-
I didn't call it our downfall, I was commenting that he was unimpressive when he was out there tonight, and I saw him on his one long shift have the puck, play the bodyy, turn the puck over, resulting in a scoring chance. And I think that he has 1 job, and that job is to, with little ice time, bring energy to the game and swing momentum, he did not do that at all. He was invisible when he was on the ice. I think Ellis, who hasn't played in a while, would bring a lot of energy to the game tomorrow, and I was just very unimpressed with Downey when he was out tonight in the defensive zone.
-
Downey sucked hard tonight, I'd like to see Ellis in tomorrow.
-
Jesus Christ...He has played in three games in a row and the next game is tomorrow. It would be unwise to play him, he will be fatigued. Your hatred of Ozzie clouds your judgment...
-
Back to the Point to Samuelsson he takes a shot into the defensemans Leg OH AND ITS A BREAKAWAY.... Back to the point to Fedorov he takes the shot off the pad of the goalie Holmstrom grabs the puck tips it in he scores..... I know which scenario I choose....
-
I'm in a s***ty ass mood now. When is the last time the Wings lost 6 in a row....
-
I've been extremely dissapointed with him lately.
-
I do agree that those two have been defensive liabilities as well. I'm just pointing out the reason why Downey is not a premier enforcer in the league, that the rest of his game is not complete. And I would also like to point out how much better Drake played than Downey tonight and say that IF McCarty comes back Drake will NOT be cut over Downey
-
No he hasn't played today because when he did he was a defensive liability. Babs has not been afraid to play Downey against fighters in the past when he has played solid games. Downey has been s***TY today and looked lost defensively that is why he isn't playing....
-
One time I was like Marty and I had a SHUTOUT going and i thought I'd get my first SHUTOUT and my teammate said Hey Ken youll get a SHUTOUT tonight and then they scored.... Hey Marty You'll Get a SHUTOUT tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Downey MIGHT get one more shift today, he has looked lost on the ice tonight. I saw him once all night, and he played the body, turned over the puck and almost caused a goal.
