NHL Opening Day! - Ducks "@" Kings

Go FIgure Bertuzzi took the first penalty of the season -
WOW, Wings offered Sopel contract thurs, and upped it Friday
russianswede919293 replied to sticknmove's topic in General
Question to the mods, can't this be merged with the Sopel thread that is a few lines down on the General Discussions list??? -
The ONLY reason Meech is up as a 7th defenceman is because he can't be sent down. Kindl, Ericsson, and Quincey should not be 7th defenceman, they need playing time....so meech's job as 7th d-man is pretty much 100% safe
-
Eh I am pretty sure that I don't care about this one. If Sopel had taken the offer to be a Wing it would have meant good bye to my boy Meech and Lilly "Pain Train" Pads would have been kicked back to 7th d-man...instead lilly played 31 minutes tonight and sopel gets to play for chicago...I am happier without him. He is a poor and by poor I mean like hobos squeegeeing your car in toronto poor, mans Schneider in that he has a good shot from the point and can score but has no Defensive sense... Bye bye Sopy... And to those criticizing his desire for more money, I agree with the ones who say you take the larger contract to support your family, especially in a 32 year old probably skill-less man who is a free agent try out and needs to keep going sense.
-
I agree. Maybe next time a star does the same *cough* Pronger *cough* they will dish out the same kind of punishment.
-
Wait for it............... Wait for it.............. Nobody will ever see it coming.......... THE PAIN TRAIN ANDREAS LILJA
-
I've told everyone this and I drafted him in my fantasy league under this suspicion...He will score 25 goals this season and have 60 points...
-
I think that is an even better suggestion than the one I made. Still though no Sopel
-
Sammy at the point is just as good as Sopel at the point on the PP I think, and Sopel is too big of a defensive liability for me to want him in.
-
Like what we have left. I hope that Meech makes it in as #7. It is almost a given that Quincey and Ericsson are on their way down since they are both able to go through to GR without waivers so it is really between Meech and Sopel. I like what Sopel could bring to the powerplay but I would rather have Lilja as our d-man with kronner and have Lids-Raffi Kronner-Lilja Cheli-Lebda then having it be Kronner-Sopel Plus we can put Sammy on the point on the PP again like last year when Schneider was out. I was pleasently surprised with how well he did back there. FOr Forwards I would like to see Grigorenko, Ryno, and all the other young ones pla in GR over being on the bench as the 13th forward. Unless they force Kopecky into the 13th forward role the kids need to be playing. That being said I am pulling for Downey or Ellis as the 13th forward, and I hope to see Grigorenko up at some point this year once he better adjusts.

Battle for Roster spots getting tighter...
russianswede919293 replied to norrisnick's topic in General
Here is what I want: Franzen-Datsyukl-Holmstrom Hudler-Zetterberg-Samuelsson Cleary-Filpulla-Draper Maltby-Kopecky-Drake 13th Forward either Ellis or Downey Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Lilja Chelios-Lebda 7th Defensman: Meech Hasek Ozzie Howard needs one more year in Grand Rapids where he dominates -
The rest of the new jersey's shown in NHL 08

I gave my friend the code and the ahl jersies get unlocked too, I like the grifs new uni a lot -
Delmore Wins Eddie Shore Delmore won the Eddie Shore Award for AHL Defenseman of the year. Trying to send him down was a good choice, since he didn't really fit and isn't as good as Lebda in my eyes, but I kind of wish that he hadn't been claimed off of waivers.
-
Grigorenko had an assisst, and Ericsson scored a goal. Game 1 Apparently both Grigs and Ericsson looked great out there last night. I hope Grigorenko makes the team, but I want Ericsson to spend one more year in the AHL, then when Lilja's contract is up we can pull him into the NHL.

Wings Prospect drop first game 3-2
russianswede919293 replied to russianswede919293's topic in General
So I guess this is the Official Prospect Camp Thread since we got game 2 going on in here... Anywho...These are the Team stats after 2 games TEAM STATS Ericsson has 2 goals, Grigs has 4 assists, McGrath a goal and 2 assists and Mursak has a goal. THose are my highlight players in this thing. Only one I expect to make the team is Grigs, but Ericsson is a shoe in for Grand Rapids top pair Defence and I am hoping the other guys push their way into the AHL this year too. -
I kind of like them

The letters going on the right side is kind of strange, but I'd rather have the same jersey with relocated letters than a change so I'm happy with how Mr. Ilitch kept the tradition alive.

I don't think that it is ridiculous what Penner got from the Oilers, it is pretty much on par with the market values of the UFA players this offseason, and I know he is an RFA, but if a team doesn't tie down their own RFAs the longer they wait the more likely this happens. Penner had 29 goals and 16 assists for 45 points and is a physical presence Lang had 19 G 33A for 52 points and is NOT a physical presence at all... Hartnell had 22 G 17 A for 39 points and is physical They all got 4 million... The answer is to negotiate with and sign players DURING the season...does anybody think Datsyuk goes for 6.7 million on this market hell no, we got him for a steal, because holland ties his boys down before the market goes haywire...if burke had signed penner earlier it wouldnt have been a problem
-
The real ball buster is that apparently the ownership wants him at 42 million Source is Eklund So take it as you would like but that being the case this contract puts the DUcks 2 million over cap as is, and you can only go 5 million over (10%) before the need to trim by opening day...aka Burke is calling Scotty and saying make up your god d*** mind are you playing or not??? And even if the answer is yes he is retiring the Quackers are at 46 million and are 4 over the owners "cap" that Eklund claims exists, and have little to no shot of bringing Salami back.... OH HOW SWEET IT IS... Looks to me that the cap may ensure our boys as the last Back to Back Stanley Cup Champs at the end of next season too... See I beg to differ...Neidermayer claimed retirement, and then got cold feet, so the Schneids signing is important because if Neidermayer sticks to his guns they need a replacement, and if he backs out hell the ducks have the best D in the NHL... BUT the Bertuzzi signing...4 million WITHOUT ANY of it as a performance bonus....that was a screw up...if they wanted the Tuz to replace Salami, they really should have done like 2 mill in base and an additional 2 million on games played and goals scored bonuses...now they have Bertuzzi for a GUARENTEED 4 million a year for this year and next regardless of how the back holds up and all their young stars are hitting the RFA market...Bertuzzi shouldnt have been 4 million without incentives and he shouldnt have been for 2 years...that was the mistake

Hudler's name not on roster at Official site
russianswede919293 replied to LEBDA22's topic in General
It might be that the final paperwork didn't go through the league yet cause the sites are all the uniform league run sites now, and Hasek showed up about a week after he actually was reported as signed -
What do the Wings do with the money they have left?
russianswede919293 replied to Bert44Wingsfan's topic in General
Some people seem to be living in a non-salary cap world. The wings now have about 10 million left under the actual cap number, and Holland wants about 2 million in padding...SO....we have 8 million to spend...2.5 on Hasek so we have 5.5 million to spend...that means no Ryan Smyth people...it means we will get either Bertuzzi or Kozlovor an equivalent and a second line center.... -
Is next season finally the year we get an Enforcer?
russianswede919293 replied to a topic in General
I think the Carlson Brothers still play hockey... -

russianswede919293 replied to a topic in General
Meh enforcers are over rated...don't wanna waste the roster spot... -
Value depends on who else is there too...Homer for 2.25 is a better use of money than smyth for 6-7 million...yes smyth is a better player but homer is a better deal and Hank is one of the best, and smartest with the puck, players that I have seen in a while. I think he will win an MVP before the career is done, and not just that, he is the next Red Wings captain after Lids retires...so he deserves that kind of money here...
