10/2 Pre-season GDT: Red Wings at Toronto Maple Leafs
russianswede919293 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Apparently Luke Schenn doesn't think checking is legal... That was a BEAUTIFUL and 100% clean check. I am glad Abdelkader will be playing with the WIngs all season. -

Ericsson has been lackluster tonight...not bad, but not showing anything. He doesn't look like a guy playing for his job. Kindl could easily pass him on the depth chart relatively early in the season. -
Maybe I just haven't seen him play enough, but I have never gotten that feel from him. It seems a lot of people on this board have though. I have always felt he would be a career checking line player with 10-15 goals a season. Again I say maybe I just haven't seen him enough, but thats the feel I always got.

George Malik tweeted that it seems like Yzerman and the Lightning want Ritola. Possibly a trade??? Because if we waive him I bet Stevie grabs him. http://twitter.com/#!/georgemalik/status/26191919554

What happened to Redden and Huet this year is a trend that has continued for a while and it is disgusting. For all the talk of "cap circumvention" in the long term contracts I feel that this is just as bad. They offer these guys way more than they are worth to lure them from the other teams and when they get there they find out that they were not worth that much. What to do now that you need the cap space for other players...Simple put them in the minors or send them to europe and the cap magically goes away. Now instead of the teams you previously outbid having a chance at your players you bury this one and keep all of yours...Parity be damned. Only a few teams can afford to pay these huge salaries while they are in the minors...and teams like LA that are trying to get better still struggle to bring free agents in, while other teams outbid them and bury their mistakes. Its also not fair to these players. When Wade Redden was offered that contract was he going to say "No I'm not worth that much money, you better offer me a lower cap hit so it doesn't hurt you in the long run...." No he is going to take the money. Now a guy who was looking for a nice paycheck and a chance to win 2 years ago gets to ride the bus around playing for the AHL team because his team couldn't afford their mistake capwise. If Wade Redden were bought out I can almost guarentee you he would find work elsewhere in the NHL, but the buyout costs cap and the bury move is free...so what to do in NY/Chicage...BURY THE CONTRACT!!! I really feel like if a player is on a 1-way contract, and their contract is over a certain amount, lets say 1.5 million (would you really pay a guy that much if you didnt think he would make your team) then even going to the AHL/Europe should be 2/3 the cap hit (just so that it costs more than a buyout). This would force the hand of many teams that bury contracts to buy those players out and give them a shot to still play in the NHL if they were able to.

9/25 Pre-season GDT: Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks

Ozzie was really solid last night. Filppula looks real good. I liked Drew Miller's play a lot, if he keeps playing like this and Ritola doesn't get to go on the ice with that injury the decision of who to keep will be easy to make. Smith looks good but gets crossed up to much on the backcheck...he fell over way too many times. Stuart doesn't look comfortable on the left side at all, he made some un-brad like mistakes. I was not very sold on Jakub Kindl. Those were my observations from yesterday. -
Wings name Red & White Teams (also send 13 back down)

Kolosov and Minard are missing as well... So is Pearce... I guess the Red vs White Roster just doesn't cover everybody that is still in camp. -

Thats a good question -
I think what happened is he got his payday and spent it all on fancy cars and swimming pools, only to realize how much that dirty escrow payment actually is...then he was pissed that he was in debt...

Lilja: Red Wings only team to offer contract
russianswede919293 replied to Blueliner's topic in General
http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2010/09/andreas_lilja_skates_with_form.html Sounds like Lilja is regretting his decision to not sign the Wings initial offer. -
i like it

I like the concept of doc-oc on the mask. Howard is one of the only wings goalies i can think of that thought outside the box with masks. There have been a lot of variations of the winged wheel. Manny I believe had an octopus. with the Wings logo on the chin... But most have been winged wheel variations. Howie going with doc-oc is still octopus themed thus Wings themed, but is a little more out of the box thinking. I like it!

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2010/08/lingering_knee_injury_might_ke.html Kronner to have the knee scoped. Hopefully its nothing major. Article says he may miss the start of camp but should be ready for the season. Anybody else really hate Georges Laraque???
-
Not the KHL...but hey close enough.
-
Mostly correct. It is not once a season. It is every 30 days...there is a games played requirement too but I don't know that. That is why McCarty was waived every month a couple years ago.

I agree with Kovalchuk, and I agree the rest SHOULD have been investigated at the time. But its too late for these contracts to be investigated now. Back pedaling would be a HUGE mistake
-
I think I like it. Sounds very similar to Lilja. I'm cool with it as long as its 1 million or under.
-
Couldn't have said it better. Same reason Shanny, and Fedorov won't be retired either.
-
Nice deal. Looks like they say Abdelkader will get a similar deal. Assuming either Ritola or Miller are waived or traded and that if another D-man comes in Meech is gone the Wings have just around 1 million to sign a #6 D-Man

Paul Bissonette was always good for a joke on Twitter. He said a few hilarious things, posted pictures of bums stating he gave them beer money. After the Kovalchuk contract he calculated how many lap dances Kovalchuk could afford. After the rejection he wrote "Guess its back to the soviet Commie" Somebody told him he was a racist, and he defended that he wasn't and that it was a joke. The next day his twitter account is gone. Its believed the team or the league made him take it down. Anybody on Twitter tweet to #FreeBizNasty and get it trending. He was the funniest hockey player on twitter.

Or is the reason why you don't watch football because of the lack of passion? They could, so I will take the rather out... But I still don't see Modano winding up here. I think he will either retire or go to Minnesota and try to get a cup for the city he started with...
-
I don't think Modano will end up in Detroit...Just don't see it happening. I would rather the Wings sign a solid #6 D-Man anyways.
