    I thought a physical D-man who could play the PK was a pretty big need. That is filled by a 26 year old 6'2" 207 lbs defenseman who wasn't on Detroit a week ago...

    He is also better than Johnny Oduya. People are comparing Detroit today to the rest of the teams today. Look at big picture. Quincey was a pretty big acquisition.

    Wings made deadline trade for Quincey last week. Which was a pretty high impact trade. If they stand pat today I am okay with that.

    Disagree. In his interview KH called Kindl and Smith number 7 and 8 D-men on the depth chart saying either/both could see playoff time. Probably just wants to get Smith in some NHL games to get him ready for playoffs and to give Kindl a message that he needs to outplay Smith to get in the playoffs. I don't read into Smith recall as a trade precursor.

    Smith going in tomorrow doesn't mean anything on Stuart. Holland just called Smith and Kindl his 7 and 8 D-men and would play both in playoffs. I read it as Smith and Kindl splitting time with Big-E out and the one who plays better is in for the playoffs if Ericsson is still out or if another injury. Wants to get Smith NHL games to be playoff ready. Doesn't mean Stuart is going anywhere.

    Holland essentially just said the Commie trade was done because Smith passed him on the Depth Chart. Talked to Commie after the Quincey deal and Commie told him he wants to play and earn a contract for next year, so he wanted to give him a chance to play. Didn't think he could play in playoffs with so much off-time this season and would rather plug Smith if he had to.

    Unless there is another D-Man coming in that would make absolutely no sense. Even if there was another D-Man coming in it makes no sense. Brad Stuart is a key piece to a cup run this season. I would rather loose him for nothing in the offseason. We already got his replacement for that situation with Quincey.

    Helene St. James asked KH if anything else was brewing. His answer "not sure" KH is partially playing poker. But it also points towards Commie as a courtesy trade. They obviously would rather call up and play Smith if there is another injury.

    A lot of analysts calling it a respect move by KH though. Saying he wanted to give Commie a chance to play somewhere to continue his career.

    I think part of the Commie trade is that KH knew he wasn't going to get a chance to play here and Commie probably wanted an opportunity to get on the ice. They weren't going to keep him, he wasn't going to get in the line-up so might as well get something for him. That is a possibility. Though I would expect they would have thrown in a guy that is low level prospect similar to Piche in the Quincey deal. That said, it may just be to open room on 50 man roster.

    That would be my guess. Likely acquires a draft pick that they can flip for a forward. Must feel that Quincey brings enough grit and Commie no longer necessary. Also expect Janik to get called up then.

    Kevin Allen is really reputable so I will go with his report till an equally reputable source says talks are back on. Craig Custance says Detroit may be the #1 player an Pahlsson right now. Sorry...now that rumor source was changed to Eklund...I no longer believe it.

    Problem is that there are not very many Top 6 forwards available. A guy like Jones is one of the more solid moves they could make.

    I would rather have Holland sit on the cap space than overpay for what some people are asking. 1st rd pick for a 3rd line center as an asking price...I would rather not.
