    DET-PIT Post-Game Discussion

To all wondering why we here at LGW hate Crosby with a fire filled passion. That quote says it all. If you are going to hack away at one of our best players at the end of the game because you lost and were held off the score sheet, do you really not expect people on the other team to defend their player. Howie may have had no business coming after you but you had no business cross checking Hank 4-5 times as and after the end game buzzer. So EFF YOU CROSBY. You are a steaming pile of s***!

    Shoot Out Is Lame

Now I know it is too speculative to say just take away the extra point for winning in a shootout and call them all ties (since some of them wouldn't have been) because the shootout changes the way teams play in OT. But I wanted to see what the standings would look like without it. Where if after OT its tied, both teams get 1 point, its a tie. This is what the standings look like http://www.nhl.com/ice/standings.htm Atlanta would be in the playoffs, and everything would be different with seeding. Also there would be less teams that were still in contention for the playoffs as well (especially in the west). Detroit would be in 7th seed, not 8th, but would only be 1 point ahead of Calgary instead of 2. I for one really hate the shootout, and this was something I did, just to see how it has changed things. EDIT: Image wasn't showing.

    Bertuzzi SUCKS

I am not so sure I would want him re-signed either. But for what he was this year and what he brought to the table, I am satisfied.

    Shoot Out Is Lame

Personally my problem is that I think you should have the same amount of points in every game, not some with 2 and some with 3. If there was to be a new adjustment i would want to either get rid of the shootout, or go to 3 point regulation win, 2 point OT or shootout win and 1 point for OT or shootout loss 0 point for regulation loss

    Bertuzzi SUCKS

Bertuzzi has produced better than I thought he would. He also is Rip Van Winkle of hockey, he goes to sleep for months at a time. That goal should start a hot streak for him, right when we need one too. I'll take 20 goals (which I think he will get) for 1.5 million any day of the week.

Am I the only one who finds this ridiculous ?

At this point getting Ozzie game ready would be just as tough to deal with as Jimmy burning out... I would rather get to the playoffs and lose in the first round than miss the playoffs entirely. As long as Howard continues this the playoffs will PROBABLY happen. Howard burning out or fazing Ozzie in now would both make it tougher. Don't fix what isn't broken. And right now Jimmy Howard is sure as heck not broken

Filppula to be paired with Zetterberg

IMO Filppula-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi was a good line (except for Bert's bad turnovers) I say when all healthy throw Cleary on the third line with Williams and Miller and put Bert on that line permanently. Team looked good tonight.

Am I the only one who finds this ridiculous ?

I love Ozzie. But Howard is a Calder candidate for a reason... And IMO was a big part of tonights win with some timely saves today. The rebound control is my only knock on Howie, but even that has been a bit better lately. He is winning games, and playing well. Until he shows otherwise I say keep him in. As it says on the back of his mask...Let's Roll

3/20 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Canucks 3 (OT)

Wings know they NEED to win this game. http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Western.html They currently stand at 67.2% chance of making the playoffs. If they win their playoff chances go up to 77.3%, they lose they drop down to 59.3%

    Eight games for Wisniewski

I would agree with this if just last week they hadn't said "this hit by Cooke would be a suspension this year, but a precedent has been set for this season, that we must follow..." Then to have them change their minds the next week... If they had their heads on straight the Cooke hit would have been a 2 gamer as well... If they really had their heads on the Richards hit on Booth would have been a suspension earlier as well. The bad non-suspensions are their own fault. Their decision not to expedite it last week is their own fault. And their decision to now put that forward this week is a joke after what they said last week, proving they don't know what the hell they are doing. Of the Ovechkin, Wisniewski, etc. hits from this past week its a product of their decision not to suspend Cooke. For me the outrage is not that Wiz got suspended...its that they should have done this a week ago. Hey at least they are somewhat admitting they screwed up? Right? I don't know that that is true... I don't want to publicly turn this into an "are the Penguins treated with bias" thread (though I would be lying if I said I never thought it). My outrage is 100% not that Cooke was a Penguin and didn't get suspended. Its that Cooke is an NHL player that didn't get suspended, and that the next week countless similar plays got suspended... I think some of these hits would have been toned down or avoided had they intervened on Cooke, and its another case of the NHL screwing the pooch with officiating, and it hurting the players... But with Greggson Campbell and Bettman in charge, I guess I'm not surprised.

    Eight games for Wisniewski

Just last week they ruled they needed to "stay consistent" with this season because they screwed the pooch by not suspending Richards, thus Cooke was unsuspendable... Then there were TONS of similar hits the next week and they decided to expedite the new rules... Very inconsitent NHL...but I like that you are starting to actually do something...but still Cooke wasn't suspended the week before, and Wiz gets 8 games?!?!?!? Hopefully these new rulings are where they consistently rule now...but with Terry Gregson as the chief official of the refs, and Colin Campbell in charge...the officiating circus is in full bloom.

    Weekend Picks

Friday: Minnesota @ Columbus San Jose @ Calgary Detroit @ Edmonton x2 NY Islanders @ Anaheim Saturday: Carolina @ Pittsburgh Ottawa @ Dallas Montreal @ Toronto St Louis @ New Jersey Philadelphia @ Atlanta Buffalo @ Florida Washington @ Tampa Bay Columbus @ Nashville Chicago @ Phoenix Detroit @ Vancouver NY Islanders @ Los Angeles Sunday: NY Rangers @ Boston Calgary @ Minnesota Buffalo @ Carolina Tampa Bay @ Florida Nashville @ St Louis Atlanta @ Philadelphia Phoenix @ Dallas San Jose @ Edmonton Colorado @ Anaheim
  13. If you take Williams' contract away, and add the money that will be saved by Holmstrom and Lidstrom pay cuts when they re-sign contracts, then Jiri Hudler fits back in perfectly. If the opt-out clause does exist I would expect #26 to be back next season.

Will Campbell Injury make him harder to move?

There was little trade value to begin with... So no, I don't think so. He should be back for the playoffs I thought I read. So what he does there is what matters.

What to do with Osgood next Year?

You will NOT find a backup as successful or good as Chris Osgood, for the price of Chris Osgood. Thus, the back-up goalie next year will be Chris Osgood.
  16. russianswede919293

Do we release Ozzie after this season...

Nope. Ozzie is essentially Mike Vernon now. What he is doing for Howard is a big part of Howard's success mentally.

That sucks, because somebody that doesn't like you could just bad reputation you left and right and get you banned...

I believe you individually give a single post a reputation, and the reputation of all your posts are added together.

    Wow... this forum feels... awkward

I agree with this. I have negative reputation already because I had issues with some players in the first period. I was not rude, and backed my ideas up with examples, yet have a negative reputation because my idea was unpopular in the GDT. I am not a big fan of the reputation points...

    How Many....

In a real world scenario, I believe that we need at least 95 points to make the playoffs. http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/02/red_wings_face_uphill_playoff-.html 21 points in 17 games... So that means that we need to win 11 of the next 17 games.
