Williams out 8 weeks with fractured fibula
russianswede919293 replied to Winged_Wheeler's topic in General
Nothing has gone our way this season. Williams was playing better and better every day Wonder who is the next call up. I'm hoping for Tardif. -
Recall waivers would interes me. Not normal waivers...

It also had to do with the 600k that it gave Holland to sign another offensive player. At the time Detroit had about 4 million dollars under cap to sign 3 forwards and with Conklin it would have been about 3 million dollars to still sign 3 forwards... It was cap induced departure only.

Goaltending is an issue... Yes Ozzie played well in the last 3 games, but Chris Osgood is not at the age where he should be playing 4 games in a row unless its playoff time. Last season there is NO WAY that Conklin would not have played last night's game. That being said...I expected Howard to play until I turned the TV on and saw Ozzie in net. At that point I realized how little confidence the team has in Howard. The Wings need a solid back up they can rely on to play 25-30 games a year. So far Ozzie has played 12 of 15 games... Howard has started 3 games. That puts it on pace to be 16 starts for Howard. I know its early but are you really confident in Howard to play more down the stretch right now. A guy like Biron would put us in an identical goaltending situation as we were last season with Conklin. Now the only issue here is what they could do to fit him in Cap Wise when the whole team is healthy since Biron makes .700 mil more then Howard does.

Very cool. I like how it connects the fans to the team in the video. Its very cool. Well done video by the Wings people.

that is an accurate analysis

Kindl needs to earn his long awaited debut... Janik has been better then him. Which should not be the case for a guy that NEEDS to make the team next year.
-
Anyone who has been keeping up with the Griffins this season can read anywhere that Janik has been the best defenseman in Grand Rapids. Detroit has been a team that will call up the player who is playing the best in the AHL for a long time. That being said there was no doubt they would have called Janik up. I wanted to see Kindl to see what he could do, but was happy with Janik as well. Janik has played in the NHL at times before. I was also very impressed with Janik's play. He looked solid back there last night. As Did Meech. Both were pleasent surprises.

Am not going to have the pleasure of getting to a game since I live in Buffalo NY. Is there anywhere that I can see the video online?

Kessel's head was down and Ohlund was just aiming for a big hit, there was no intent to hit head, or intent to injure. It was a clean hit.
-
Yup after closing in for a top spot last week and finishing in first I followed up with 11 right... I think I am going to fall down teh standings...
-
Or finally Filppula had a BREAK out season... Just Kidding...

Here is my idea...The Washington Capitals obviously do not want Nylander anymore...he is playing well in Grand Rapids...His cap hit is ridiculous... If in a you scratch our back we scratch yours scenario...we have housed him so they don't need to move rookies out of Hershey...We could use a 3rd line center that is a playmaker...half of Nylander's cap hit isn't that bad...if they waive him, then recall waivers him...I think the Wings could take him... At this point I'm really just searching for the golden nugget in the heat of the s*** storm though...

I am seeing all these fan fantasy lines on the site, and 75% of them have Homer still on the first line. I wanna start a discussion about the growing age of Homer, and if he is really a first line guy still. In my opinion, playing on the first line beat him down so much physically that he didn't show up enough in the playoffs, when it really matters. So here is my thought, why not play Homer on the third or fourth line, and still use him on the first power play. That way we still reap the benefits of Homer being our PP specialist, but he stays fresher, and less injured, so that come playoffs we can still reap those benefits.
-
The life of Jimmy Howard is a hot and cold one for sure... He is very streaky...if he can stay hot I will be a happy man.
-
I eat my crow here... I thought he was too beaten down to remain productive on the top line, Homer I am glad you have proven me wrong... He always has been one of my favorites, just wasn't sure how much he had left in the tank. I'm glad the anawer is ENOUGH

There I can agree on the 4th line, a ***** of the ice time was PK... I was satisfied with third line ice time though. Leino had 14:23 with pretty much all of it even strength, Draper had 15:38, 13:14 of it even strength, Williams had 13:41 with 12:14 of it even strength. While the second line had Cleary 20:12, 15:44 Even Strength, Bertuzzi 16:49 with 15:33 Even Strength and Filppula had 17:20 with 13:42 Even Strength Then the first line was Z 19:51 with 16:10 Even Strength Pavs 18:55 with 16:58 Even Strength Homer 16:21 with 14:21 Even strength So even strength there was only a difference of 4 minutes from worst to first for the top 3 lines and the rest was special teams, so top 3 lines all played pretty even with only Pavs and Hank (the superstars) cleaning clock on even strength playing time... 4th line playing time is a concern but 1-3rd playing time wasn't bad.

I've been really impressed with Bertuzzi. He needs to pull a Pavel though and net a couple. The past few years while healthy Bertuzzi has been incredibly streaky, and he has been all around the net with sure fire goals turning into amazing saves...and in turn he seems to be forcing the opportunities... A couple goals and he will roll and get 5 or 6 goals in a 8 or 9 game span...which would be nice...

I would like to see what Eaves can do on a consistent basis...part of the problem is he plays once every 3 games... I think Abdelkader getting 1st line minutes to work on all facets of his game in GR could allow Eaves more playing time, which would be interesting to see.
-
http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/10/pa...et_to_make.html Sounds like Eaves has not impressed the Wings management... I have been impressed with him at times but he has also looked invisible at times. When he uses his speed I like what he brings, but he is very inconsistent with the use of that speed.

The 4th line played in the 3rd... http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20092010/TV020154.HTM Abdelkader 1:55, Maltby 2:18, May 0:56 Third Line played Leino 4:37 Draper 5:00 Williams 4:06 So yeah the 4th line was a little light, but the third line had pretty good playing time...most 4th lines dont get much playing time in a tight game in the third though The Vancouver 4th line only had one more shift then the Wings fourth line in that period actually... EDIT: Took Goalie stuff out not going to start with that s***...

Now Darren Helm has looked a little off kilter with no training camp... And Lebda and Meech have both been ATROCIOUS So...Why not give Helm a weekend in Grand Rapids for conditioning (he is still a free pass to GR) and in that weekend use the roster spot Helm frees up to try Kindl in the NHL for a few games... if Kindl looks out of place then you send him back when you recall Helm...if he looks better then Lebda or Meech you waive one of them to make room for Helm's recall... Any thoughts???
