Report: Hossa turns down Wings' offer

A veteran signing would be cheaper. Abs is an 800k cap hit. They could sign somebody for less then that.

Report: Hossa turns down Wings' offer

He is saying that teams would more likely go after Kessel then Hudler.

Aaron Downey and Darren McCarty will not be offered contracts

I thought that D-Mac had already been offered a 2-way deal. Im pretty sure it was M-Live a while back.

Report: Hossa turns down Wings' offer

Not if he takes a one year deal from the Wings on his own accord.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

What is the radio station claiming that Hossa rejected the offer. I haven't seen it anywhere.

Chris Neil turned down the Ottawa Senators'

With all the fighter boys on this forum I bet you by tomorrow this thread has more pages then the Hossa one. And just so everyone who is saying get neil and get hossa in each thread...you cant have both.

    Montreal acquires Gomez from NYR

Horrible trade for the Habs. They trade a solid 2-way 20 goal scorer at a fair cap hit and their #2 defensive prospect for a mediocore #1 center at a ridiculously high cap hit for 5 years. If they were going to take one it should have been drury who only has 3 years left on the contract.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

Lilja is a 1.2 million cap hit, so subtract 1.2 million then add 650k for Lebda being traded and you have 0.850 for 2 forwards, which cannot legally be done.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

Homer alone will not cover a 4.5 million dollar Hossa hit, because homer and lebda gone only leaves 0.3 million left on cap, not enough to actually sign somebody to replace homer. That being said the only two movable forwards are Cleary and Filppula. Edit: Both of which are hard to see go. Then again its hard to see Hossa go. Its a s***ty offseason for Wings fans, because we are saying good bye to a lot of players.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

People need to stop including Abdelkader on their depth-charts. Holland has already said Abdelkader is going to spend one more year in the minors. Thus there needs to be another signing. Realistically this will be a cheap one like Yelle or Ellis or somebody like that.

    Wings to trade one defenseman

Honestly I doubt Meech would be traded to make room under cap and get to 7 defenceman. Lebda has the bigger cap hit, and if Lilja is healthy neither will be playing. Thus Lebda having a bigger cap hit makes him more likely to be traded to clear cap space.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

So according to Mlive its a take it or leave it 4-4.5 million cap hit that he has to sign by noon tomorrow or honeymoon is over. I will wait and see.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

This is kind of ridiculous. Does anybody truly expect him to sign a contract for a 4 million dollar cap hit. He is the best free agent available this season, and he turned down big money once, he won't do it again. Not because he is a bad person, because he isn't stupid. Hossa asking the team for a 6 million cap hit is already a pay cut to what he can get on the open market, 4 million is not a number i would expect him to settle with. Does he want to be a Red Wing, I still think so. Do we want to keep him, I still think so. Does it work for either party financially, hell no. Hossa was great here, and he wasn't the only no-show in the finals, anybody not named Zetterberg or Ozzie was really a no show in the finals. I loved the year Hossa spent here, and I wish him luck and will cheer him anywhere he goes, maybe not the team he is on, but him I will cheer for.

    new RFA compensation numbers

It works if you trade Lebda or Meech. You can go into camp above camp so if Lilja is healthy you trade one of them, if Lilja is not healthy it isn't an issue until he is. Edit: So as you can see 2 million dollars is in fact logical and cap geekable

    What Ken Holland Should Do

2009-2010 Detroit Red Wings FORWARDS Pavel Datsyuk $6,700,000 Henrik Zetterberg $6,083,333 Johan Franzen $3,954,545 Valtteri Filppula $3,000,000 Daniel Cleary $2,800,000 Tomas Holmstrom $2,250,000 * Jiri Hudler $1,900,000 (1 year contract) Kris Draper $1,583,333 * Ville Leino $950,000 Kirk Maltby $883,333 Darren Helm $599,444 * Matt Ellis $500,000 DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom $7,450,000 Brian Rafalaski $6,000,000 Brad Stuart $3,750,000 Niklas Kronwall $3,000,000 Andreas Lilja $1,250,000 Jonathan Ericsson $900,000 Brett Lebda $650,000 Derek Meech $483,333 GOALTENDERS Chris Osgood $1,416,666 Jimmy Howard $716,666 BUYOUTS NONE LOST VIA REENTRY WAIVERS NONE CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (including bonuses) ROSTER SIZE 22 SALARY CAP $56,800,000 PAYROLL $56,820,653 BONUS MONEY (ESTIMATED) (0% of cap) $0 CAP ROOM $-20,653 CAP ROOM PER OPEN SPOT $0 This is the roster you go into camp with (You can still be over on cap). If Lilja is playing you trade Lebda or Meech wah-la under cap! If lilja is out LTIR and then deal with trading Lebda or Meech later when Lilja is back! Of course this is assuming Hudler is cool with the contract I want him to sign 1 year 1.9 million. If that is not the case then this doesn't work out anymore.

    new RFA compensation numbers

Abdelkader will spend all season in Grand Rapids baring an injury anyways...Babcock and Holland have already stated as much. I think that Hudler for 2 million on a one year contract is reasonable for Detroit, but I think they would match anything that doesn't give them a 1st round pick. Holland can maneuver around to fit Hudler in around 3 million if he trades away Lebda or Meech. It would be tough though. I realistically see Hudler agreeing to come back on a 1 year deal around 2-2.5 million which I think is fair. Really it comes down to who agrees first though Hudler or Samuelsson at an affordable rate.

    Teams calling Detroit about Hossa

If LA can use Hossa as a lure for Gaborikl they have Kopitar, Gaborik, Hossa thats pretty good. They have a pretty decent defence and are a goalie away from a possible playoff spot (bernier ready yet?)
  18. russianswede919293

    Teams calling Detroit about Hossa

Unlike many I hold no ill will towards Hossa and if he did in fact sign a 10 year 40 million dollar contract I would s*** my pants and order a Hossa jersey right then and there. I do not expect him to sign at that discounted of a rate, and I do not expect the Wings to sign him to a 6 million dollar deal because it is not affordable. That being said; I said it when he signed here last year, he is a rent a player with Z and Franz having contracts up as well. Nobody wanted to believe it, but that is what he always was. Had the cap gone up it would have been different. It makes the most sense for both parties financially to part ways. I loved having Hossa here, will always love him as a player, and wish him the best no matter where he ends up.
  19. russianswede919293

    Teams calling Detroit about Hossa

At best the Wings will get a 2nd round pick for the rights to hossa...I doubt they get that much though. More likely a 3rd rounder.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

Not really/ They have 3.3 million under cap to sign 3 forwards. You figure Leino gets about 900k and they sign a 500k vetran so they have about 1.9 million, could trade meech or lebda so have between 2.4-2.7 million to play with, but you want 200k under cap to call up people with short term injuries, so they have at MOST 2.2-2.5 million to spend on one player...IF they trade Meech or Lebda...witholut that trade they have 1.7 to sign one forward.
  21. russianswede919293

    Teams calling Detroit about Hossa

No they didn't. They traded a 3rd round pick and the rights to another UFA...
  22. russianswede919293

    12th FOrward

The 12th forward is most likely going to be a 500k per year guy that the wings sign late in the summer. Looking at the free agent lists there is one guy im really interested in. What do people think about bringing Matt Ellis back to be the 12th forward?
  23. russianswede919293

    New Salary Cap $56.8 mil

IMHO: Hudler has two choices. He has the choice to take a one year contract for less then 2 million dollars and test what the wings can offer and what he can get as a UFA next year. OR he can take a long term 3 milliion dollar contract from another team.
  24. russianswede919293

Kopecky to test the open market

Kopecky never had more potential then to be a third liner on a bad team in this league. A couple of big injuries set him back and his potential became 4th liner at best. Had Kopey never tore the knee ligament I think we would have seen him differently. Any team willing to pay him more then the probable 650k i think he was offered here is on crack. Kopey is going to find some s***ty team that thinks he is gold since he was a Wing.
  25. russianswede919293

    12th FOrward

Is there any reason you are opposed to it. I mean if he signed for league minimum who are we going to get for better at that price. And signing a league minimum player for 12th forward means more money for hudler or whoever is replacing hudler/sammy.
