Z down. Who is next for extension?

I agree with you that that would be ideal, but they have continuously stated that Meech's future with the franchise is as a defenceman. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...rt_escapes.html Temporarily Ericsson could feasably be called up, but more realistically I feel Chelios will get his ice time until he is back in 2 weeks. Leino is a RFA and I would not be surprised if he went back to Finland, I hope not though. I personally don't think so, but I never count Holland out of making a magical move to make anything happen.

Z down. Who is next for extension?

My problem with Howard is he has always been inconsistant and despite being so strong as of late, I expect a cold streak of massive proportions to accompany this hot streak. But I agree that Conks will want to cash in. I see him pulling around 2-3 million a year as a #1B starter for a team like Ottawa. Thus I am all for trying Howard out and seeing how that goes. Also to everyone counting Leino in the line-up in the sacrifices to keep hossa and even without him, Leino signed a one-year contract, he is a free agent at the end of the season its no guarentee he doesnt go back to finland.

Z down. Who is next for extension?

Commited to next year: Datsyuk (6.7) Zetterberg (6ish) (article said slightly above 6 per year) Filppula (3) Cleary (2.8) Homer (2.25) Draper (1.583) Maltby (0.883) Helm (0.598) Lidstrom (7.45) Rafalski (6) Stuart (3.75) Kronwall (3) Lilja (1.25) Ericsson (0.9) Lebda (0.65) Meech (0.483) Osgood (1.417) Howard (0.717) So that is 49.431 Committed with a need to sign or call-up 4 more forwards... Free Agents that could be back are Leino, Hossa, Hudler, Franzen and Samuelsson. And Abdelkader (0.74) could be called up as well. I will assume that the cap is not going up at all due to the economy or at most maybe 2 million increase. That leaves for a 56.7 cap 7.3 million, and for a lets say 59 just for rounding space 10 million in cap space. Since four forwards are needed, unless Hossa signs for 6 million a year as well, I highly doubt he will be back Matt. Zetterberg helped the Wings, but not that much. He helped them enough to keep in my opinion Franzen and Hudler, with 2 rookie call-ups, and possibly even just one of Franzen or Hudler. I don't see anyone leaving on defense. Lebda will be 7th defenceman and Meech will be 8th d0man 13th forward and Ericsson will slide right into the top 6. So I would love Hossa to stay, but I just don't see it fitting capwise unless it is going up more than I expect it to. I think Franzen should get 4 million, and hopefully Hudler will come in at 2.5. Its going to be a tight squeeze again next season.

Zetterberg Extension: 12 years, $73 million

I am thrilled. This is amazing. Its a little long for my old-fashioned 5 year contracts taste, but in the current NHL market it is now typical to see a 10 year contract, and the extra 2 years were solely for cap reasons. Great job Holland, and classy move Hank. 6 million cap hit for the team when he could have easily made an 8-8.5 million cap hit over 10 years instead elsewhere....this guy is classy!

Because the Young Guns game is a "mutual agreement" while the all star game is a forced excursion.

I love hank, he is my favorite player on the team. BUT...he is way to injury prone to warrant a 10 year contract as rumored...

The thing I don't like about it is that the NHLPA never approved it.

Lidstrom & Datsyuk suspended for skipping ASG

To me the difference here is Crosby is a 22 year old that lives in Mario Lemieux's basement...so he changed his plans. Lidstrom and Datsyuk want to spend time with their wives and thier children....
  17. russianswede919293

Bettman suspends Lidstrom, Datsyuk 1-game each

I was going to watch it despite no Wings in it, but f*** that now... Bettman is a horses ass.

I wonder how bad Stuart is he didn't come back after that high stick, I hope it didn't catch his eye and that its just getting stitches.

    Crosby "fight"

My only problem with it was that he left his visor on.

    Franzen or Hossa?

I only skimmed it but this thread is lala land... #1. Ericsson needs to be up next *edited* year he is out of options after this season meaning Lebda or Meech is gone unless Meech makes a permanent move to forward, not out of the realm of possibility. #2. Franzen for $3.5 million...only in dreams... #3. Hudler WILL get a ridiculous offer sheet unless he decides he doesn't want to leave, and the Wings will be FORCED to let him go... (I hope I am wrong) #4. Sammy will not be a Red Wing next season, it doesn't work financially. #5. Lidstrom is over-rated?!?!?!? ummm.....No... #6. Val Filppula is going NOWHERE...yes goals are down but assists are WAY up...if you look at his point total so far and multiply it all by 2 that is 72 games, 32 points, 4 points less in 6 less games then last year...that is also taking into account he sees no powerplay time where last year he had 8 Power play points...despite what it may seem, he is having an equally productive year as last season so far, just with more assists then goals...also he is only 24 years old, put him on the PP again next year and you see the $3million statistics... It comes down to this...Hossa and Z means another year like this year, where the injured goalie is the back-up because you cannot afford to call somebody else up... Due to that it is Franzen and Z...

Babcock: Conklin To Start Winter Classic...?

Conks has been great against Chicago this season, plus a sore groin means don't play outdoors... But Conk's play against the hawks means that I want him in.

    12/30 GDT: Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 0

They definitely call more penalties when a team is down to make the game closer... There hasn't been one today, but I want the 5 on 3 this year versus last year comparisson...
