Oh I 100% agree there. I don't think that there is any sort of conspiracy either. I just think the refereeing right now is some of the worst the league has seen in a few years. Some refs call everything while others call nothing, and it has led to some very unbalanced calls throughout the year from game to game, and I also think that the amount of rule changes from year to year lately is partially accountable.

Yeah. If he keeps it up though I am not sure he will go back down again... And after that replay...Cowan needs a 1-2 game suspension for that since the league is "taking an offensive on illegal shots to the head..."

Ideally that would be what happens, but that isn't how it will go, since Downey initiated the physical contact the refs are already on him for the night, where as Burrows, who was likely just as responsible, will go unwatched since he didn't start the physical portion.

Jesus, I am not hating on Downey. He came in late after the play after his warm ups fight, what did people expect would happen. He drew attention to himself before the game even started and the refs WILL watch him like a hawk all game. If he toes the line it will be a penalty all night. He came in to that scrum a good 5 seconds after the whistle, and they already were pissed at him for warm ups. It was in fact a stupid penalty. At times on this board I think that some players are the golden boys and others the goats. Sammy gets blamed for everything here, I make one comment about how Downey took a bad penalty and I'm a prick, when I said nothing about disliking him, just that it was a bad penalty.

Higgins is Draper, but he scores more...at least that is how I view it. I don't see him as a #1 center, but I don't see the Habs trading him either.

Bertuzzi was not trying to paralyze him he was trying to sucker punch him, same as Domi did, in fact, in my opinion the major injury to Moore came when everyone jumped Bertuzzi who was still on top of Moore at the time forcing him more into him. The sucker punch was what did the deed though. One sucker punch is okay since he was only kind of injured, but when the other one left somebody severely injured its not okay. They were both sucker punches, I don't see how one is okay and the other one isn't.

But how is the guy hitting him any better if he cheap shots him. A cheap shot is a cheap shot is a cheap shot. It doesn't matter what your reputation is, or if you "deserve it." If you feel cheap shots don't belong in hockey you shouldn't want ANYONE to get cheap shotted. Getting their ass kicked fair and square is something I am 100% cool with. But cheap shots do NOT belong in hockey at all. That is like saying since you hit our player in a cheap shot and injured him I hate you...but its okay for us to do it to you, but when you do it back to us it won't be cool. A cheap shot is never cool, and if any Red Wing EVER did anything like that I would be embarrassed as a fan and I think the franchise would be too.
