Avery breaks off contract talks with Rangers
Jaromir Jagr replied to Skiing - Puck's topic in General
Avery wants 4 million plus per season. Thats way too much for Avery. as much as I like him on the Rangers if he isn't willing to sign for less then we gotta let him walk. If any GM is stupid enough to pay 4 million dollars for a guy who is worth 3.0 max they can have him. I don't think any GM will sign him for that money and his price will fall. -
Montoya for Grigorenko. any takers
-
I would say Colorado and St Louis.
-
Well some reports have come in saying that he is in great shape this offseason and he expects to make the big club again. But even if he is good enough to play for the Rangers I don't think they will be able to take the cap hit so my best guess is he is either going to play in Hartford again or be dealt to some team like Pheonix who has the cap room.
-
Kasperitis probably won't make the team. If that is the case the 2.9 million he makes next season won't count against the cap.
-
He's a punk that completly took Kovalchuk out of his game when we played the thrashers in the playoffs. Kovalchuk was more worried about hurting Avery than scoring goals. Having a punk on your team isn't always a bad thing.

Sather's comments about Avery were pretty harsh. Avery was in no way a detriment to the Rangers. If anything he could have been the reason the Rangers were able to turn their season around. If I was the Rangers GM I would have given Avery a long term deal. I just hope Avery takes Sathers comments about him and shoves them up his ass by having the best season of his career.

I can honestly see them winning their division. Jokinen is the most underrated player in the league along with good players like Horton, Weiss and Bowmeester they have a very solid young team, If Vokoun can stay healthy expect the Panthers to be very good this year.

I was at the reunion game. It was awesome to see the 96 team again on the ice. That team was awesome to watch, they were one of the hardest working teams I have ever seen play. As for the jerseys, they are horrible, the old ones were much better imo. Also I saw Dennis Potvin signng some autographs before the game, Me and a few other Rangers fans yelled POTVIN SUCKS a few times as he got up from his table, That was the highlight of my day.

He also out scored Marian in the first round. You can't give him an offer sheet because he is headed for arbitration. The only way Avery comes back to Detroit is if the Rangers decide to walk away from whatever the arbitrator decides.

If the Rangers are not playing I like to root for the Panthers. I root for them for 2 reasons. one bieng I was born in south florida, and two I like rooting for a smaler market underdog type team. The Panthers can't go out and afford to sign big name players and spend up to the cap every year, they have a budget to work under, Unlike the Rangers, Wings and some other big time teams. So for me to see a team like the Panthers do well is kinda nice. They also have to be the least hated team in hockey, I mean does anyone here know anyone who absolutly hates the Panthers?

Actually had the Rangers taken Henrik to arbitration he probably would have been awarded 2.5 to 3 million dollars next season. By signing him to this contract they actually showed him that he is their franchise goalie and will be for a long time to come. They avoided a nasty arbitration hearing and gave him a nice raise. The only reason they signed him to a one year deal is because they can't afford to sign him to a long term deal untill after January first But I can bet you that Sather and Lundqvist already have a long term deal worked out. And by the way Henrik will be a group 2 RFA after this year if he does not sign a new deal before the 08-09 season. Again, the Defense does not have any super stars but they are a solid group. How many superstars did the Hurricanes have on D when they won the cup? The Rangers have enough scoring and good enough goaltending to compensate. Also the Rangers had the second fewest goals allowed in the eastern conference last season so obviously the defense was doing somthing right.

Come Playoff time last year the Rangers were one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the East. It took them some time to gel but when they finally got it together they were a force to be reckoned with. This offseason they have done nothing but sign one of the better playmakers in the league in Gomez to play with arguably the best player in the world. And they sign Drury who has done nothing but win at evey level he has ever payed at. They have not lost anyone good but Nylander. In my eyes the Rangers have improved with these signings. The defense is one year older, with guys like Tyutin and Girardi ready to have breakout years, If Staal is going to play in the NHL next season (which Renney has hinted that he will) our D corps is looking much improved from last season. Buffalo got worse this offseason, New Jersey got worse, The Fish Sticks got worse. The Rangers are one of 2 teams in the east that made the playoffs last season who actually got better this offseason the other one bieng the Penguins. How can anyone say that the Rangers ar not at least a playoff team.
-
Thats exactly why. Against some teams who play a more physical game or maybe teams that will take shots at Jagr, Orr will be in the lineup. Hossa will most likely not be scratched from many games. Last year either Hollweg, Ortmeyer, or Prucha were all scrached to make room for Orr. But with the addition of Drury and Gomez I don't see much first line playing time for Hossa So he could possibly be the odd man out when we need Orr in the lineup. The reason for this is because Hossa only seems to be worth his weight in pucks when he is playing with Jagr.

Fixed it

The Rangers D is better than most people think. They only really have one legit first pair type defensman in Roszival but paired with Malik who gets very little credit for what he does and the two of them playing behind the Jagr line they won't be scored on much. They have Tyutin and Pock who are both young defensman who are mistake prone but have one more year of experience under their belts and are improving, I expect Tyutin to surprise many people next seaon with his play, Pock may still be a few years away from reaching his potential but he is improving. Dan Girardi was called up from the minors last season and played about 30 games or so, not many people know who he is yet, but you will soon enough, He is the best defensive defensman on the Rangers by a long shot. Mara has size and a good shot he can be a defensive liability at times but he is an upgrade over Aaron Ward in my opinion. Jason Strudwick has size and experience he will be a decent replacement if we need him to be. The big question is about Marc Staal, if he is ready, and I think he is. He could potentially be the next Brian Leetch. Staal is very talented both defensivly and offensivly and could contribute greatly to the blueline if he is ready for the big show. All in all the Rangers have a good defensive corps, not great but good. Combine good D and great goaltending and I think they will be pretty solid in the back end. The offense is another story all together. just look at these potential lines Jagr, Gomez, Straka Avery, Drury, Shanny Prucha, Cullen, Callahan Hollweg, Bettes, Orr With Hossa swiching between the first and fourth line. Not to mention Gomez and Drury both play defense much better than Nylander ever did. So to me the Rangers look like a contender but only time will tell.

The Wings http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=8492 although I wouldn't go nuts until it's on tsn.
-
whoops beat me to it by one minute.

For the people who are flipping out right now. Chill out, the wings have one of the best GM's in hockey if not the best, Holland knows what he is doing. Bert is an injury prone player and in my opinion he lacks charicter. The Wings will be just as good as they were last season if not better with Rafalski who is one hell of a defensman, just ask the Rangers. You guys should be happy you have a compitent GM and ownership that is dedicated to winning.
-
It will be interesting to see what Nylander and AO can do together. It would not surprise me to see Nylander score more points than he did last season.
-
This thread makes me laugh. The rangers still have 11-12 million left under the cap.
-
Good luck with that.

Shanny can only be signed if it's in the 2 million dollar range maybe less. If he wants to be a Ranger next year he will have to take a pay cut.
