I think that we'll have some invities at training camp, but I also think that we probably will go with what we have! 24 forwards now and 7 D, I think someone would have to shock the s*** out of the coaching staff to be rewarded another spot. I simply do not see the Wings doing anymore roster moves until the trading deadline! But who knows!
-
Well..... I'm not sure about 3rd in the east just yet, I don't think they will pass the Capitals for top spot in the Southeast this year. However I think they will have shot at them in a couple of years!
-
They may have structured it that way incase he retires early or has a career ending injury! I wasn't sure they could do that though!

I think Kovie is one hell of a player, but in no way is he worth 10 million a season. If he wanted 10 million a season he should have stayed in Atlanta because they were the only team that could afford that type of deal, but not anymore! I can only think of 3 other teams that could pick up a 10 million a year contract and that is Carolina, New York Islanders and Florida. Possibly Nashville, but they would never pay anyone that money! Acoording to sportscity.com Carolina has a cap hit of 46 million this upcoming year, Florida has a cap hit of 48 and NYI has a hit of 35.9, Kovie could replace Yashin. Nashville has a cap hit of 43.35, but Kovie said he wouldn't play in the west! Since he wants 10 million, he should just sign with the KHL! We do not need guys like him in this league!
-
Well...... I suppose its a catch 22, but I just don't like the fact of signing a guy that may or may not work out at 1 to 1.5 million when we could sign two guys for that! Now not only are we out 1.5 million, but if Modano gets hurt we have to bring someone up that may not be ready just yet. I understand that WE HAVE NOT GIVEN UP ANY STARS YET, but we seem to keep mortgaging the future on older players. No doubt that Modano will make the third line killer and the second power play line better, I'm not saying I don't want Modano on the team, I just don't want to lose young talent because of it. Since I just read that Meech filed for arbitration, this may not matter anymore.
-
Opie, all I'm saying is we need to quit giving guys away for guys that are only gonna be here for a year and at the most 2. Sure, Quincey isn't Lids, but there will never be another Lids. Trust me, I want to win and win every year, but gambling the future for a guy that may work out or may not I just do not think is worth it!

Looks like Kovie will stay in New Jersey, according to TSN. Kovie has signed a 7year 60million dollar deal that will keep him in a Devils Uniform for a very long time. Not sur eif this make Jersey better or what. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=326655

Like I said earlier, if we have to give up young talent for Modano then I say no thanks. I'm tired of out young guys going to other teams and becoming stars. We really need to keep these young guys otherwise we will be drafting 1st and 2nd overall very very soon! I don't like us gambling our future with guys like Modano!

Looks like Vancouver has signed Dan Hamhuis for 6 years 4.5 million, this pretty much means that Mitchell will not be back in BC! Do you all think that Mitchell could fill the void that Lilja once filled?
-
I agree! It would be bitter sweet! But with the salary cap era losing young talent to bring in a guy that is only going to play a year or two simply does not make any sense to me. Sure, the third line would be awesome, but in 2 years or even next year we would have to fill that spot again and there are no guarantees that Tatar is going to be able to play in the NHL next year. I could live with losing Miller, but not Ritola!
-
I cannot believe the prices that were handed out today! Many of them were waaaaay to steep and long deals as well. Colby Armstrong at 3 million a year was flat out crazy. We'll see what he does now with the Toronto Media and their high standards! I was thinking Willie Mitchell because he does have health issues and I thought maybe he would come here alittle cheaper! I was thinking that Mitchell may take a 1.5 million a year contract to wear the Red And White. Just a Thought. Good Discussion so far!

I personally think it is better to wait until the deadline, just because there are guys getting waaaaaaayyyyy too much money. Look at Gonchar, 5.5 million per!! That is way too much for a guy who takes games off!! Hell... Tanguay is getting 1.7 million per with Calgary! Crazy overpayments today!!
-
HEY!!!! Does this "everyone gets a trophy society" thing mean that the Wings get their names on the Cup this year too? Close Woodward, Parade today!! But really, this is becoming way to common in sports. The parents need to stay in the stands and shut up, if your kid(s) suck then encourage them to finish school or find another sport. Like someone else said rinks need zamboni drivers too!!

Oilers Place Nilsson, Moreau, and O'Sullivan on Waivers
Donaldjr2448 replied to stevie12's topic in General
I may be wrong (no shocker there) but if Ethan was slated to make 2 million next year, we would only have to pick up 1 million of that correct? I though it was 1/2 of what the Oilers paid since they put him on waivers!! 1 million for Ethan Moreau would be the steal of the waiver wire!! JEEZ!! -
Yeah, I had Horton on my Fantasy Team last year and he was awesome until (like everyone else on my team) got injured! Don't see him being a Wing, I think he is getting somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 or 4 million a year!

There is a reason why this dude can't show his face!! I remember when he started his website and then he was here in Nashville one night for a Preds game and he was wearing a mask, he said it was to protect his identity, but I now realize it was to help to keep him from getting his a$$ kicked!! Then on top of that he charges a fee for his lies, thats like paying for weather blog!! Crazyness. Back on topic, if the Devils trade Brodeur for Semin then they are just as crazy as the Caps trading Semin! Not sure why they would do that anyway since they are not resigning Morrison and a few others that I can't think of right now!

Once again the folks that do not suit up in the games are the ones controlling the outcome! We have a great sport, but the ones at the top seem to think they are running a pyramid scheme, and they continue to screw the games biggest asset; the fans!

"Detroit sucks" chant at Cup celebration?

I'll take this one from Pedro Martinez, " At least they know who their Daddy is". I'll leave it at that! -
Toews: Most undeserving Conn Smyth winner in history?
Donaldjr2448 replied to blues_demitra38's topic in General
Nah! Most Undeserving?! I think he deserved it, sure he didn't put up huge numbers in the Finals, but the Conn Smythe goes to the best player in the playoffs and there was no one better than Toews. The kid was awesome in the faceoff dot and that stat alone is the most underrated stat in the game. I personally thought that if Toews didn't get the award that maybe Leino would get it! I think the Conn Smythe is usually pretty spot on when it comes to selecting the winners. Malkin totally deserved it last year, he kicked our butts! -
Team to beat in the West: Nashville Predators?
Donaldjr2448 replied to blues_demitra38's topic in General
I can agree with this statement! I think that in 2008 Nashville gave the Wings the wakeup call they needed that propelled them into the rest of the playoffs. Nashville is the type of team that will battle all the way to the bitter end and they simply do not quit. Barry Trotz has implemented a system that the players and especially the young players that if you work hard you will be rewarded. Nashville's main issue is the ownership. If they would simply get a couple of free agents they could possibly be a Carolina or Tampa Bay Championships. Until they do so, I do not see Nashville being anything more than a first round doormat! -
I actually liked the Interview. I thought both men stood their ground. You all have to remember that these issues with franchise's cannot be talked about on the air. I understand that people and players want to know what is going on, but there are privacy issues that cannot be brought up for public debates. Like someone else stated, Bettman is like a puppet in many situations, his main job is to keep the game profitable, and many people may question what he has done with that, but he kept the team in Phoenix like he wanted to and hopefully that will help the game profit. The Cap has gone up every year for the last 5 years and I think that shows how the game is getting stronger. The ratings for the Finals are breaking records every year for the last 3 years now. With all of that being said, I'm not a huge Bettman fan, but he has helped the league out of many bad situations, I also did not like how he attacked Ron McLean. All he had to say is that he could not comment on certain situations. Good Interview!

We were exactly 19 rows behind the Wings Bench!! They were awesome seats!! That is a really nice arena too! There must have been 150 Wings fans in our section!! It was amazing!
-
This is not suprising! Just about everyone was injured on the roster this year! Reading that quote from Clears gave me goosebumps!! I can't wait either!!
-
GENIUS!!! Holland would trump Bettman again with that!! However, I'm certain that the NHL would block that type of trade to Detroit because then the NHL couldn't screw us over with that type of roster! Could you imagine Stamkos with Datsyuk and Zetterberg on the same line!! Holy Cow!!

There were so many great moments this year. Like someone else stated, these games this year were not automatic and every game was a playoff type game. It made the regular season much more meaningful and worth watching. The only game I attended was in Denver in October, we lost 3-1, but Anderson stole the show stopping 47 of 48 shots. That was the game that I noticed that Villie Leino was not going to be a Wing for much longer. He was awful in that game. I don't know that I can pick a favorite game from the Regular season because there were so many to choose from. I think I may have to go with the 2-1 victory in Calgary in March. The game was 1-0 Flames when they got a BS Penalty Shot and Howie stopped them, then a few minutes later Datsyuk scored to tie the game and the Homer won it with a wrister that beat Kipper with 1:16 left in the game. That pretty much sealed the fate of the Flames and propelled the Wings into the playoffs! As for a playoff game, I thought game 7 against Phoenix was our best. On the road and simply dominated a pretty good hockey team. Datsyuks Breakaway goal was one that I may never forget!!
