Get ready folks, hitting is about to exit our game
Donaldjr2448 replied to jollymania's topic in General
When I watched the Game live, I thought Thornton left his feet to make the hit, but after Jolly has posted these angle shots, I see that Big Joe simply was trying to get out of the way! Perron had his head down and never saw it coming! I guess the hits to the head are gonna be like the high sticking, eventhough you didn't mean to hit the head you still will receive the penalty for it! I'm curious to see if Perron was embellishing the hit like Downie's hit in the LA game? Thats what I mean by guys tumbling to the ice and rolling around like they were hit by the zamboni! I think if a player embellishes the hit, they should receive an unsportsmen call! Right after the Thornton hit Perron, David Backes was hit by Dany Heatly next to the boards. Heatly let up on the play as he was coming into contact with Backes, but Backes dove into the boards and of course fell to the ice like a sack of potatoes! Heats then was assessed a 2 minute boarding penalty! This is exactly what I'm concerned about is these guys embellishing these hits because they know the refs are looking for them, so they fake injury! I wish the NHL would notice the guys faking injury are the ones ruining the game, not hits like Thornton, Doughty, and Heats! -
What a great story! As I was reading the story I began to tear up! This team and organization is amazing! Simply the best! I pray that your Brother gets back on the ice soon, but there is no doubt he'll beat cancer! Just stay positive and you all will beat this nasty nasty disease! Best Wishes to you, your Brother and your Family!!

I don't know that Joey will play in Edmonton because those kids in Edmonton are good, this is not the same Oilers team from the last couple of years! These kids can put the puck in the net! I would bet Joey plays in Vancouver, because we all know Looooooooouuuu will give up goals from the blue line all night long!! And Honestly these negative comments about Ozzie need to stop, sure he is in a bit of a bind now, but he has ALWAYS pulled through ( no pun on the pulled part). Ozzie is a professional with 3 rings and being a backup in the NHL is one of the hardest jobs in the world. Is Ozzie as good as he was 2 years ago, No! But I would take him as a backup any day with his resume!!

I don't know! This league is going to crap with all of these new rules. I am with Mickey Redmond on just about every call, for the Wings or against! The NHL has watered this game down so much, that it has really taken the excitement from the game! There is no way that this was a dirty hit! NO WAY!!Contact was made with the shoulder and the hit was made on the shoulder. Just because the head snaps back does not mean that there was an intent to hit the head! What garbage! I understand that there will be bad calls until the refs understand what they are looking for, but we do have instant replay, so check it out first before throwing a guy out of the game. I say that because I am afraid that guys that are on the receiving end of these hits will start to throw their heads back to draw attention to that just to draw a penalty! Or.... they will lay on the ice and fake an injury just to draw attention! Those are the clowns that need to be suspended!

Ok!! I love this! I am a school teacher and I love when kids enjoy what they are doing! Sooo much emphasis is put on doing the right thing all the time and I understand that! I think anyone who has played any sport understands the pressure these kids are under and I know that many of them do not enjoy playing because of the constant pressure, they simply want to have fun and I enjoy seeing that! Great Video!

You know with the track record we have with the Ducks and all of their cheap ass hits and what not, they have this stuff coming as well. Keep your head up Teemu! Im glad that our guys are starting the hits instead of receiving them!!

Maybe we should invite her onto letsgowings.com! Lets give her a chance to explain herself, and then drown her with all of our knowledge and simply show her how wrong she is. Are there idiot Wings fans out there? Sure, but we are a nation, and thats gonna happen when nearly half the globe is a Wings fan or at least follows the Wings! But to say the Wings buy their Championships and the players are arrogant is just plain lack of intelligence!

Thanks Nightfall. I was around when the Wings weren't making the playoffs every year and I remember when we made the playoffs in 1988. I just remember how excited I was ( I was only 9), I thought then that this team was going to do something special, then followed up the next year with 19 wins and didn't even sniff the playoffs and I wondered what was next. We all now what happened, but I always kept the faith in this team. I think may people on this board were not around during the DeadWings era, because if they were, we would not see these crazy comments about players like Malts and Drapes and yes, Even Lidstrom (which just baffles me)! I will always remember Maltby in the playoffs, right when we needed a big goal, everyone would pick Stevie, Shanny, Kozlov, Feds, ect and who ended up with a goal..... Kirk Maltby! As far as I'm concerned, Malts was one of the best faces of the organization that there ever was. Will the #18 go to the rafters, probably not, but he will always be at the top of the lists of players with the biggest heart and dedication. We'll miss you Malts!! GO WINGS!!

Hjalmarsson Cheap Shot on Jason Pominville
Donaldjr2448 replied to Octopus's Garden's topic in General
Well, Since Hjalmarsson got a 5 and a game for the hit the NHL will automatically review it! So there may be a suspension anyway. However, I'm not sure the hit was intended to be dirty and they way Pominville hit the glass/boards is what made things much worse. I do think it should have been interference/boarding, but honestly nothing more than that! Its too bad Pominville got hurt on the play, but Hockey is a contact sport and that happens! I'm not saying that Hjalmarsson shouldn't have pulled up on the play a bit, but I do not think he meant to injure Pominville. Cheap Shot sure, Dirty Nah! -
Yeah! It was as if Babcock was waiting for the Dude to say something to him! Babs would have owned that Dude!
-
I personally think all these fights are coming because the skilled players are sick of being hacked and wacked all the time. They are finally sticking up for themselves. Maybe by them doing this, the cheapshots will come to an end! Probably not though!!

Lastnight I saw a different edge to our game. An edge that had been missing for awhile, I haven't seen this team as determined since the 2008 season. The Wings looked hungry lastnight and I think that will carry over tonight in Chicago. I personally think the best medicine for this team is having to watch Chicago raise a banner. I was impressed at they way the Wings played lastnight, it wasn't one of those we got a 4-0 lead lets just sit back, they kept putting pressure on the Ducks. They outshot the Ducks 21-6 in the third period. I know the Ducks bring the best out in the Wings, but so does Chicago. I expect the boys to be ready to send the Chicago fans home upset, AGAIN!! GO WINGS!!

Hey!! Don't forget about Jimmy Howard giving Ferry the old blocker and glove wash as well. I'm beginning to really like Howie. As for Dats fighting, I never want to see that again, if he would have been injured in that, I would have been pissed! The crowd was epic during and after the fight, I simply cannot believe Datsyuk now has a Gordie Howe hat trick! Insane!! GO WINGS!!

I cannot agree more with ya! I wonder if Cus is the guy that gives the stats to Babcock before the games and during the intermissions? In any event, I love his posts, and I always look forward to them, it's funny,I like the stat about what our record is on a certain day, it always seems to be spot on. Its amazing to be able to almost predict the outcome based on that stat alone!

Mike Illitch to buy the Detroit Pistons
Donaldjr2448 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I find it hard to believe that the Pistons are worth 475 Million! Or did I just read that wrong. Even with PS&E 475 Million seems a bit steep! I wonder how much the Wings are worth???? Since I am moving back to Michigan in December, a new arena in the Fox Theater area would be nice!! All 4 teams would play in the same area, I think its a great idea and Awesome for Detroit! I think it will hurt the Oakland County Economy not having the Pistons there 50 times a year, but they will still have the Palace to hold other events. I just hope that the Palace does fall into the hole the Silverdome did! I think the Silverdome cost the City of Pontiac 20 million to build in 1973 and opened in 1975, but they only got 550,000 in auction for the Dome. Honestly I would like to see a Minor League Hockey Team come into the Palace. I know the Vipers fell through the cracks, but I think a team that would be tied into the Wings organization like Toledo or something (Jr Wings) would make a decent splash. The Palace would be a great venue for something like that! -
I need bond money now!!!

Ya know, I am so sick of these cable and satelite companies charging out the ass for their programming. It is starting to get real old. This spring I cancelled Dish Network and went with ATT U-Verse and they were just as bad. So I said the hell with all of ya, went to Charter, got the best internet for 45 bucka a month and now I will pirate all the games for free. I basically pay 45 bucks a month and can watch whatever I want when I want with the internet as apposed to 130 bucks for things I cannot control! Hmmmmmmmm!

I think that main reason the season started so early last year was because of the Olympic Break. Of course this year we don't have to worry about that (Thankfully).

OsGod, your pic is frickin the funniest thing I had seen all day!! Man that is funny!! I needed that!!

And his fists have been placed in Bert's locker.....
Donaldjr2448 replied to TheWestWing's topic in General
Wow Lord Stanley! Thats a great story! I'm sorry for your loss, but to help others out when your in sorrow is something that is remarkable. Thats a great blessing you all did for those fortunate folks! You all should feel proud that your father could help out again. What a great story! Be wishes, Lets Go Wings Community will keep you and your family in our prayers! -
I do agree with your post, however I do expect things like this to happen even more in the preseason, only because guys are playing for jobs. Even Phaneuf! Dion is a great player, but he is not Lidstrom status and we all know what Darryl Sutter can do to players that take shifts off! My not saying guys should take runs at each other, but this is their job on the line as well. Just sayin!!

I love what Ciccarelli said after that game when Draper got hit from behind. That is one of the quotes I will never ever forget, however that was Dino's last game as a Wing! I really wish he would have been on the 97 team, I always liked him and he was a fan fav!!

Salei Comments on History With Modano and New Season
Donaldjr2448 replied to VM1138's topic in General
Im not sure that this will even be an issue. If something does happen, I expect the Captains of the team to step in, as well as the coaches! Knowning Babcock, he will not put up with any lockeroom issues like that! I just think we have too many veterans for anything to boil over on an issue that happened 11 years ago. I'll tell you all this, I am excited to have Modano here, but I am just as excited to have Salei here as well, as long as he stays healthy! I really think he will bring the grit that Dallas Drake brought a couple years back, eventhough he is a D-Man! GO WINGS!! 25 days until Opening Night!!!!! -
I just got a text from DRW.com stating that Cheli has retired and will take on a front office position with the Wings!!

Mickey is a great guy! I've had the chance to meet him a couple of times! He is a classy guy! I met the entire gang here in Nashville (Ken Daniels, Mickey Redmond, Ken Kal, and Paul Woods). I was able to go into the press box and meet them all, my step dad worked with a guy at GM that went to high school with Ken Kal, they were apparently good friends and I got the hook up! Ken Kal was cool, Ken Daniels was even cooler, he is a laid back dude!
