My favorite quote from a ducks fan: What about the player who hit Getzlaf in the face and made him bleed with 7.7 seconds left in the game?, if you are going to suspend someone for an accidental check into the boards , then you should suspend him for giving that type of contact with 7.7 seconds left in the game, as there was absolutely no need to give a high stick to the face of getzlaf when you are up 5-0 and are surely going to win with seconds left in the game, i mean honestly why the f give a penalty of 4 minutes with seconds left into the game?, i mean its like your giving the player a free cheap shot with no consequences to that player!, because the game is already over. I understand there is no stiches needed for Getzies cut, but the same concept holds as what the media is saying, they are preety much saying that the hit was "out of frustration and was not needed because the game was already over and it wasn't accidental", lol. Honestly though thats what they are trying to say about the hit, if they want to play it that way then i think Getzies incident should not go unreckonized. LOL,.... I only saw the last 3 minutes of the game and it happened to be when Getzlaf got hit with a high stick. It was quite obvious that it wasn't intentional...... this ducks fan is definitely in denial.

Good Point....the job isn't finished until the wings pile up 6 more wins...

Anyone have a link to last night's game? Unfortunately I had a hockey game to play (which we won I might add), and was only able to catch the last 2:30 of game time. Even though I saw Getzlaf get highsticked, I didn't get to see the rest of the game and would really like to! Thanks in advance for your help!!

Nice video with Vladdy visiting the Wings last Sunday
high_stick69 replied to arno's topic in General
Vladdy was always one of my favs. The rest of the league should consider themselves fortunate he's not still around. -
It would be nice to add some depth right about now....
-
Does anyone know his status? I know they said he wouldn't be ready until about now, but has anyone said how far along he is? I don't know if bringing him back would even be a good thing, since he hasn't played ANY hockey for quite some time and we can see from Bertuzzi's play that it takes some time to get back into game shape, BUT with the Ducks taking cheap shots at our D (like when Chelios was "accidentally" run into from behind) it would be nice to have him available.
-
Wasn't Sweden saying that Kronwall was the MVP of the tournament for them? I think he's a great defenseman who has had some bad luck and needs a little more playing time, but will be a great great player.
-
Pronger must have rubbed off on Neidermeyer. I was surprised that he cheap shotted Pavel at the end of the 2nd period the way he did. He needs to get a taste of his own medicine. I'm sure the Ducks will continue with their attempts to take out the Wings skill players. Its the only chance they have to win.
-
That is f***in hilarious. If Chelios decides to retire, he should join Hull in the booth.
-
Do you guys think the number 24 goes into the rafters after Cheli is done? He's been with the Wings only one season less than he was a Blackhawk, and after all, the Avs decided to retire Ray Bourque's jersey when he was only with them for two seasons (thats just sad if you ask me).
-
Being this far into the playoffs and looking as great as the Wings do, I think a lot of the fans are like me and want it so bad we can taste it. Having the option of Kronwall is just a little insurance that some of us like since we lost Schnieds. Quincey is doing a fine job, but who do we have after that?

Its too bad there isn't a local Red Wings bar that we could congregate at and cheer the Wings on to victory! I am a Green Bay Packers fan too, and they have bars all over the country. Swanky's in LODO and Rocky Flats are both Green Bay bars. Are there any Wings bars around here? Perry getting beat up..... by a little guy If you watch the video, idiot Perry skated into Dom's stick himself. Why should that be a penalty? If you skate around the net and turn into the butt end of a goalie's stick, thats your own fault. Dom didn't even do anything.
-
That hit was a cheap shot and should have resulted in a penalty. He was crying to the ref seconds before and decided to take the law into his own hands. I don't know how you don't call something so deliberate. What is frustrating is they call all the little stickwork when a guy gets his stick into someone's side (aka Lang's near fatal penalty near the end of the game) but when the wings dump it in and go to chase it, they let the other teams D obstruct them. That is so frustrating!!!
-
LOL @ that,.....my fiance was sleeping soundly with her head on my shoulder when Lang scored to send game 4 into O.T. I let out my patented exhuberant "SCORES!!!!" and she jumped a mile....scared the living s*** out of her. I must say, however, that Lang looked a little more surprised about the goal than she did.
-
What do you guys think of Dom's performance so far? I dunno about you, but I think he's saved our asses a time or 12. Even though he is predictably playing the puck to the corner every time, he has been stellar in the cage and has stopped a lot of point blank Shark chances. I feel like he's been one of our best, if not our best player. No one seems to be mentioning that he's playing well. I just wanted to say "Keep up the awesome job Dom!"

Its funny how people equate points to success. Points are very hard to come by in the playoffs. When games end 2-1 or 3-2, how do you expect a guy to ring em up like Micheal Jordan? It takes a full 60 minutes, and a lot of times more, to wear a team down and beat them. You don't just waltz around scoring goals at will. Do you think there is a lack of effort that is leading to Dats and Zetts not scoring 6 goals a game each? Come on.... they are busting their asses!!! Quit whining and support the team. Don't throw the salary card out. Why not just play only Dats against a team of their 1 and 2 million dollar guys if salary is all that matters? Since he makes more he should be able to beat them single handedly, right?

I don't think Lids is hurt, at least he doesn't have any major injuries. What you are seeing are good hockey players making good plays. Its EASY to get burned in hockey, and noone is invincible out there. You have to know the Sharks are focusing on Lidstrom and trying everything they can to beat him however they can. It happens to everybody. Lids has made some, what I like to call 'panic plays' with the puck, but everyone is guilty of that one time or another. He has been good when he's needed to be and has been as solid and reliable as you could ever ask for.

Non-Michigan fans: How did you become a Wings fan?
high_stick69 replied to Chaldean's topic in General
I started watching hockey as a kid a few years before the Kings obtained Gretzky and I liked the Oilers. I got to watch one year of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and I was addicted. We couldn't afford to keep cable the following year so I would scan AM radio for hockey games. Living in Green Bay you could pick up the Hawks, Blues, sometimes the Flames and Leafs, and most importantly the Red Wings. I listened religiously and became a huge fan of Stevie Y and the Wings. I'll never forget the disappointment when I listened to the Leafs Nikolia Borshevski beating Cheveldae to knock the Wings out of the playoffs back in the 92-93 season in overtime of game 7. No wonder I hate the Leafs so much!! The other reason I loved the Red Wings was because of Sega NHL hockey. A friend of mine was a great player and always took the Blackhawks. I could beat him with the Wings and it drove him nuts. We had epic battles and even though he had Roenick, Larmer, Amonte, and Belfour in their primes, I usually ended up the victor. I can't say enough about the joy the Wings have given me in my lifetime. When I watch any of the games on the Return To Glory CD series, it brings a tear to my eye. -
Did you guys see when Nashville was playing in San Jose and the fan behind the Preds bench had that sign with a picture of Trotz and a picture of a weasel side by side and they looked identical!!!! Funniest damn thing I've ever seen.
-
: WOO HOO!!! HELL YEAH!!!!
-
I agree!! I would much rather have a tired out Stars team coming off a tough 7 game series than a rested Sharks team. Let Thornton and Pronger fight w/ each other for a few games before we have to face one of them IMO....
-
Hell yeah Cleary and Franzen were huge by being the support that means the difference in the series, but in reality Lidstrom and Hasek were the BEST players in the series. The LIDSTROM and CHELIOS led defense did limit the number of shots on HASEK, but he made every save he should have and has played very well. I like the picks of Franzen and Cleary, but if the series were deciding the Conn Smythe, it would've been LIDSTROM or HASEK

Door Number 5 or Calgary in First Round of Playoffs
high_stick69 replied to livediehockey80's topic in General
Doesn't home ice advantage mean anything anymore? Why would anyone want the wings to drop to the 4th position? So they can go on the road to start round 2 or 3? I like the idea of top seed and having home ice. The Wings will get the best performance from any playoff team they play because teams respect them and know they have to play their best to beat them. The Wings need to have that same thought, and play their absolute best against whomever they play. Yes they are a veteran team and yes they've been there before, but there is no reason to take the playoffs lightly. Its time to turn it up a notch and really get after whomever they draw! Of all the teams in the playoffs, the Sharks seem like the team that the Wings have had the most trouble with in the regular season. -
