I say boo Feds all you want, and then boo him some more. Comparing him to Shanahan is not a fair comparison. Federov was like a son to the Wings fans. Then he pulled all the BS with signing an offer sheet with Carolina and then leaving to Anaheim. Yes, he did good things for the team and definitely was a huge part of winning the cups, but he never returned any of the love he used to get from the fans, and skated out of town when he had his chance. The Wings fans remember very well how their unappreciative son Sergei left town and they're still pissed off that they weren't good enough for him. He probably wants to feel that love from the Wings fans again, because its the only time in his career that he has felt it was when he was in Detroit, but he is a trader, and for that he will always be booed IMO, and deservedly so. Feds was one of my favorite Wings, and is a great player, but I'm not going to pretend it didn't hurt when he left. I'm not going to give him the satisfaction of thinking he can leave that way and it doesn't matter. Until he wears the winged wheel again, he will not be cheered. The only chance he'll get is if they retire his jersey. Think it will happen? If it does, it will be like a son returning home and all will be forgiven. Until then, he's a trader. Say what you want about booing being classless (what a joke), but the fans are going treat him the same way he treated them.....with no respect. His selfishness and lack of loyalty is the issue. Shanahan can not be questioned for his loyalty and heart for the team.

Versus sucks! I was going to head to the bar to watch the ceremony on the ticket but Versus's website said they would be covering the ceremony. Instead all those pansies talked about was the Blues and the Blackhawks. I was furious that I didn't go watch the ceremony in its entirety because I relied on Versus to watch the "8.7" seconds of coverage. PS Bill Clement is the most boring guy to host a post game wrapup ever!!

The Hockey News just had their GM ratings come out and they ranked Holland 1st.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal
high_stick69 replied to WingsFANstuckintheSOUTH's topic in General
It sure seems like Kenny went through a lot of effort to pull off a three way deal for a wash trade. I hope he focuses his energy on something that can bring a little more benefit or upside than a -31. -
Instead of crucifying Bert for his one major indisgression, why not look at his upside? How many goals was his career high? Didn't he light the lamp 50 times one season? That would help fill the void that Shanny has left....

From an interview with Gregorienko Do you still hope to make the NHL? I. Grigorenko: Yes, I may try next season. Detroit offered me a contract this year, but I decided to play for Lada. I can't leave my wife Oksana and my daughter Alexandra. Oksana and my parents did so much for me three years ago when I was recovering... Do the old wounds still bother you? I. Grigorenko: There's a lot of pain in my leg when the weather is changing. I'm like a weather barometer on the team and can point out exactly when it will rain or the weather will get colder Hopefully he will be here next season.....

I was searching some rosters and looking for players I thought would really be nice additions for the Wings for the playoff run, or after this season, when a few players may retire, or be replaced. I thought some good matches might include Jason Arnott, Olli Jokinen, Jamie Langenbrunner, Glen Murray, Ales Kotalik, Brenden Morrow, Jere Lehtinen, Ryan Smyth, Brian Rolston, Alexi Kovalev (if he could stay healthy), Scott Hartnell, Shane Doan, Frederik Modin,...maybe these all seem like no-brainers, and you would say "Yeah, just look at the All Star Game roster and say they'd be a good Wing." I guess my point is that they could use another skilled power forward who can bring the physical presence the wings are seeming to lack. I'm not saying I'm unhappy with the make up of the team, but the playoffs are a tough grind, and having a beefy vet that can put the biscuit in the basket, maybe on a line with Lang and Shanahan, or Yzerman and Shanahan would be mint. Having one more weapon of that type IMO would put the Wings head and shoulders above the rest of the league. They are obviously near the top now, but who knows what the hitting of the playoffs will bring...What guys would you like to see on the wings that may be free agents at season's end, or are attainable with the cap situation?
-
You are certainly right about that.... how many will be free agents at the end of the season? With some potential retirements, there may be some holes to fill....Isn't this FA period supposed to be similar to last?
