I think you're being a little too quick to buy the excuse offered by the NHL. I don't think it'd be safe to say that if Hiller's pads and pants had been hot pink that the call would have gone differently Amen to that...

You're correct that it's also upsetting when the Wings put themselves in a position where they have to worry about a single blown call making a difference. However changing the color of Hiller's pads, or pants, or whatever would have only removed the list of excuses the NHL would have to offer to defend the official. In my opinion, they likely had zero to do with it. A better option would be to tell the officials, that in the playoffs they need to add about a second to their internal "egg timer" to made darn sure the puck is actually covered before they commit to blowing their whistle... even more so when they're in a less than optimal position to see the play.

I'm not the conspiratorial type, but can someone recall the last time a goal was waved-off by a Detroit opponent in a playoff game??? Honestly.... We had two against us last year (that I can recall, including one in the finals) and now one gigantic FUBAR so far this season. I disagree.... instead I'd say: It was the bad call that should have never happened, but the only "right" thing about it was that they didn't overturn the turd of a call after the fact. That would have opened a can of worms.

I don't agree with that statement as it implies that he made a bad call that helped us for once. Instead I see it as "O'Halloran didn't make a bad call that hurt us for once!" The call was a no-brainer. The BJ skater off of the bench intercepted a puck that Holmstrom(?) was in the process of trying to race to and drive into the offensive zone with. The BJ player fresh on the ice intentionally stopped a potential Red Wings offensive opportunity while the guy he was replacing didn't even have one foot on the bench. Redmond was right when he said that the officials would call that all night long... and they should. If the puck had inadvertently hit the BJ player's skate, I think you might be able to argue that the play should have continued.

I hadn't noticed that... I guess that's what I get for spending too much time surfing while the TV is on. But, I knew it wasn't the normal Ducks "fog horn" horn.
