Yes, but how many sports have a "Best of six games" format????

Not hockey but a sad day for Detroit and Baseball
Gizmo replied to oldredbarnman's topic in Other Sports
Very sad... I'll away remember Fidrych's "Frozen Ice Ball Theory". I read an interview with him once when he was asked about how he calmed himself down in tight situations on the mount. He said (paraphrased) "I think to myself 'In several million years the sun will start to burn out and the Earth will turn into a giant frozen ice, and when that happens no one is going to care one bit whether or not I strike the next guy out or not.'" -
Good move... He was one heck of a goalie for ND and put on quite a show at the CCHA finals last month!

It's computer generated and likely done by the network instead of by the Rangers (though I know they're owned by the same folks in their case). Forumula One racing started doing this a number of years ago with virtual billboards along side the track where none exist. MLB teams do this though it's usually done with a green screen behind the plate.

4/8 GDT: Columbus Blue Jackets @ Chicago Blackhawks

If your cable system offers MLB Exta Innings, then you're probably getting NHL Center Ice for free too during MLB's "first week of the season" free preview. Comcast and Charter customers can watch it now. -
Since they share the same set of channels, MLB's free opening week preview lets you get Center Ice free too! Your results may vary, but it's working on Charter.

SCOREBOARD!!!! SCOREBOARD!!!

Sorry man, but I don't think we need to look at the WWE as a model for the sport. Avery is the equivalent of the "pro" wrestler that pulls sand out of his boot and throws it in his opponents' eyes when the ref isn't looking. The NHL doesn't need isn't own "Iron Sheik".

We were at the Midwest Regional final (Bemidji St. vs. Cornell) and I was surprised when Cornell pulled their goal with around 3:40 left in the 3rd when they were down 3-1. That seems way early to me. The longer you leave the net open, the greater the exposure to an empty netter. Sure enough, Bemidji put in two pucks (one was waved off due to a delayed offsides) in the remaining time. Down two, pulling the goalie with around 2:00 left seems like a time that would minimize your exposure and give your offense a decent chance of pulling off a couple quick ones.

I think the story's author seriously is discounting the extent of the "sweetheart" deal the Ilitch family has with the Joe. Their annual lease for the building (lock, stock-n-barrel for all events, plus parking) IIRC is $300K a year. The city of Detroit would have to charge a heck of a lot for "police and landscaping" and jack the taxes WAY up in order to make up what a new stadium lease payment would likely be. The current deal is recognized as probably the richest deal a pro team has in American pro sports.

Those are both from 2007-2008 season to current. The "dress shirt tails" are the give aways. Before that year the hems were straight.

Unless they added it this season, the last I knew the AHL (amazingly) didn't have video review.... period.

No Tootoo thread is complete until this gets posted:

I'm with you... I think the "simplier is better" works better. Brodeur's is a great example. Some of those mask designs are way too busy. As for Ozzie's equipment, I thought I heard on TV last year that Paul Boyer was using a contact in Russia for spare cages and helmets for him.

I've found the info in the pocket schedule (regarding radio stations) to be 100% useless. In seveal attempts, neither Lansing listing has worked, ditto for Battle Creek. Kalamazoo's entry is dated too. This season the Wings moved from AM 590 WKZO to AM 1660 WQSN. Yeah! No more conflicts with Tiger's games!

Ovie's English is actually getting pretty good... I think he's got Pavel beat!
-
Heck yeah!!!! Homer's back and the family and I are going tonight!!! Woo-hoo!
-
Now if we could just figure out a way to recoup the phantom "in the crease" goal wave-offs that Dan O'Halloran's screwed us on in the last couple of years!!!
-
Sounds like Franzen last season... and that turned out pretty well in the end!
-
Not a quote, put I loved one of the TV guys imitating him in broken English after a take-away during a game: "You have puck.... Now I have puck!!!"
-
"...he had a tendon in his left heel sliced by a skate after a harmless looking hit into the boards" Ouch, ouch, ouch!!! That hurt just reading about it!

The only problem is that JLA is so dark that at 560mm the lens is at f5.7. So the fastest shutter speed you'd be looking at is ~1/200th sec at ISO1600. Even with IS, I think you're going to be luck to get anything usable at any decent telephoto length. When I use my 18-70mm f3.5-4.5 lens the best I can do is 1/400th @ f4.5, ISO1600... and that's cheating a bit and under exposing! And most of the time they will look at the focal length printed on the lens. If they see a number larger than 80mm, you'll likely be told to return it to your car or check it at Guest Relations. I took a fish-eye along one night for fun along with the 18-70 and they made me take out the fish too to check it's listed size.

It's called "control". When you're a member of the press you sign a credential form when you go to cover a Red Wings game that places limits on what you can do with the photos you take. Basically, you are limited to "editorial" usage. Basically this means for use in newspapers, magazines, news websites, and any other periodical publication. At the Freep's website you can buy re-prints of the photos they publish in the paper or their website. But if you select a Red Wings photo in your request you will be told they can't do that for contractual reasons. As a fan, you haven't signed any legal contract about photos taken at JLA. Therefore it's harder to police people that want to take photos at games and put them on eBay. So most pro-teams tackle the problem at the source. They make it hard for fans with cameras to take images that are good enough to sell. Unless you're on the glass, or darn close to it, an 80mm lens ain't gonna get you many "Wow" photos. At least JLA has a clear policy. Some places have a vague camera policy that may only say something like "No 'professional' equipment allowed." Basically, this means that if the particular security guard at the gate you enter thinks your camera is "too nice", then they'll block you from bringing it in.

Per EPSN article, the "YoungStars" are exempted from sanctioning.
