I think that if I were the kid's Dad, I would have "guided" him a little more to make the "right" decision. The guy didn't have to come forward with the fact that he had the stick. But he did the right thing by doing so. But if the Hawks hadn't come through, due to the kid the guy would now be out $100. I'd had told the kid "Look, you wouldn't have gotten the signed stick if you hadn't had the other one taken. Why don't you show some gratitude and give the nice gentleman the stick? Look, if you want a Z autograph that bad I'll buy a signed card off of eBay for $20. I think you're being a little greedy here. He did the right thing, how about you doing the same?"

I know it's been posted here before, but I've searched and search here and on Google, but I can't find the local TV interview that Chris Chelios gave in Chicago after his trade was announced where he effectively said that he refused to go to Detroit. Can anyone point me to it???

Before the game Meigray was given all of the jerseys prepared for the game. They sew unique serial number patches into the hems of all of the jerseys they authenicate. Here's the one in McCarty's jersey: When they do so they have no idea of which players will actually dress for the game, so all of them are prepped by Meigray. Each year Meigray publishes a "Population Report" listing all of the jersey serial numbers they've sown in jerseys for that season. The Wings just sold off all of the Set #1 jerseys at fixed prices (a lot lower than the auctioned one will go for) through HTA this week. Some of the prices were: Osgood/bench worn $600 Conklin $1,800 Holmstrom $750 Rafalski $750 Datsyuk $2,000 Draper $1500 Kronwall $600 Maltby $650 The Wings sold the 1st Period jerseys, the NHL is auctioning off the 2nd Period jerseys, and the players probably got to keep the 3rd Period jerseys.

You did the right thing... particularly given he was with his kids. The most I would have done was a smile and a "Hi". A simple "Thanks for bringing the Cup back!" would have been cool too. If he wanted to engage in conversation, then let him decide. I had a nice conversation with Paul Newman at the Michigan 500 when I was working as a photographer this way. The only Red Wing I've approached has been Dallas Drake. He was coaching his daughter's team at a local hockey tournament in September where my son was playing too and I had had a nice chance conversation with his wife the evening before. She mentioned that her husband doesn't mind the attention, so I waited until after one of games and asked if he'd sign my SC hat. I thought "what are the odds of that happening again", so I quickly asked and didn't pester him after I said "Thank you!" He was happy to oblige. But I still felt a little "weird" about it. You're not alone.

At the very least, there were 3 of those 5 goals that Ozzie had about zero control over: The rebound off of the back board, the rebound off of his shoulder, and the almost high-stick deflection. About the only "should have known better" goal was the 2nd one where he left a gap in between him and the post. Letting in five goals sucks, but I don't think Ozzie's the main problem.

I'm guessing the "indefinite" suspension is just a procedural term. I assume there'll be a formal hearing to set the actual number of games he'll serve.

For what it's worth... we were at a travel tournament in the in the 'burbs of Chicago over the weekend and the Gunzo's pro-shop there had a ton of Winter Classic stuff for sale. Looks like the city is gearing up!
