    World Junior Semi-Finals

    There's a Bronze Medal game
  2. I probably has to due with the fact that when he got Cleary a couple of weeks ago he forgot that he was allergic to the shaving cream he used. He figured with Kroner's luck he'd turn into one big hive, go into shock,... or slip on the shaving cream and blow his knee out!

    Winter Classic Jan. 1, 2008

Overall, my feelings are the same as Ruff's... "Nuts" to the naysayers. It worked. It was a gamble by the NHL, but it paid off. - To me it was great fun watching a bunch of stuff in the game that you never normally get to see/hear. 1) NHL players dealing with the elements and snow on the ice. 2) Switching ends in the middle of the 3rd. 3) Two goalies using the same net for a SO. 4) The roar of 70K people in the stands. - Yes, the mid-game ice repairs were a bit of a wet blanket, but I wasn't a big deal to me. It gave me a little extra time to fix a sandwich, pour a drink, or go watch at couple minutes of the Michigan bowl game. Also, from the sounds of it, the fans were still having a blast. It was a misdemeanor at worst. - Should the NHL do this every year? I don't think so. Making it an annual event would, to me, take away some fo the novelty of the game. Every couple of years would do nicely. It addition, it WAS a gamble. If the temp would have warmer and rain had fallen instead of snow, or the ice had been more of a problem, or if it had been a monster snow storm, the game would have been a total bust. - As for the idea of a UM/MSU and Wings/Habs double-header. That sounds pretty cool... but I think the NCAA would have a lot of issues with the notion.

Wow... that game was a total hoot to watch! My son and I had a blast watching it.

How Have I Never Seen This Patrick Roy Video?

That's a classic.... Though not quite as good as the "Statue of Liberty" goof. IIRC, he "took exception" to the ref's initial call that led to the penalty shot in the commercial. He apparently held his anger until after the shot in hopes that he'd stop it... but blew a gasket when it went in.

    Hasek Challenges, Gaborik goes Airborn

Right on... When Willy got knocked out cold by Raffi Torres after skating from behind the net last season the overwhelming opinion here was it was a clean hit and the problem was Willy had his head down and got clocked. I don't recall anyone calling for Torres' head here after that one.

Funny Post About JLA Music Guy

My two favorite JLA Music Guy moments are: 1) When the Florida Panthers took to the ice for the start of the period he played the jingle from the "Meow Mix" commerical. 2) When the Islanders took to the ice he played "The Dance Of the Sugar Plum Fairies"! I died laughing!

    Hudler's new nickname

I laugh every time I hear Mickey call him that... I'll vote for "Happy".
  14. Fans were lined up at the Joe for 1 1/2 hours for the $9 tickets to go on sale. Somebody in the Wings organization was thinking. From the Red Wings web site...

Wings get aboard the marketing clue train!

While it would have been nice to have some top players out there, I'll cut them some slack and give them kudos for trying this. It also wouldn't surprise me if this were an ad hoc deal with Babs simply asking for some volunteers in the locker room. Whatever, it was a nice move!

    Questions about 2008 tix

If they expanded the pool of $9 tickets, I think they'd be worth putting on-line. But, IIRC, there are only 200 of them per game. On-line they'd be gone faster than a "Hannah Montana" ticket.... and people would be complaining that they couldn't get any before others snapped them up. Also, remember that those are the "obstructed view" seats. I've sat in them, and quite frankly, if left with those as the only ticketed seat option... even at $9 I'd pass and buy SRO!

How do I get the LGW front page picture of Osgood?

Minor correction... It's from the Breast Cancer Awareness night game against the Sharks on October 26th!

    11/21 GDT: Red Wings 3, Blues 0

I want the Wings to put on a major league butt kicking tonight in the worst way. This team needs to dust themselves off and get back into their October game form!

Whats Wrong With the Wing's Marketing?

Actually, I believe they've sold quite well. I recall when they announced the program would be extended the Wings organization said that the October $9 seats had sold out.

Whats Wrong With the Wing's Marketing?

I think the biggest problem is that up until a couple of years ago the Wings didn't have to DO marketing. The tickets sold themselves. That's know changed for an array of reasons that everyone's read a million times... but the problem isn't any ONE thing. I'm afraid that the marketing department doesn't have a lot of successful ideas from the past that they can pull out of their hat and try. From what little I know, I think one area that would help would be player availability to the fans. People can really bond to a player that's willing to spend a little time with them. For example, I thought the "meet a player" lucky pucks that they sold during the recent Breast Cancer night was a neat idea. Perhaps it can be "opened up" a little so more people can chat with players for a couple of minutes after some games... perhaps a few dozen fans with a lucky stamp in their programs each game. I also thought the program the Pens had this year of having players hand deliver season tickets to fans was nothing short of marketing genius. I agree that the ticket prices would help if they could expand the low cost program beyond the crappy obstructed seats. How about next season making the top 10 rows around the ends in the upper bowls something like $15-$20 seats? Charging $44 for Section 203A, Row 20 is bogus. Yeah, it may hurt a little bit when it comes to the total "gate", but your concession numbers will look a lot better with a couple thousand more butts in the seats each game.

What's not to like about "Happy"? I think it's been fun to watch him improve his game this season.

Dom Drops Ball, Ozzie Answers Call

One game does not a trend make. But it's comforting to know that Ozzie's in the wings if the call is needed. We'll see how Dom responds... he's got a history of bouncing back after getting pulled.

    11/11 GDT: Blackhawks 3, Red Wings 2

I think that as long as the officiating is better than the last two meetings the Wings should take this one. Hopefully we won't have any quick whistles to negate goals for us or bogus slashing calls that lead to winning goals for the Hawks.

A new Blue Line Comics Cartoon

No... I think if you re-read this thread, you'll only find a couple of people that don't express a problem with the name "Redskin" (me not being one of them). What most people are trying to say is that "Blackhawk" is equivalent to "Viking". OK, so do we need some sort of Federal Mascot Commission to sort all of this out. They could hold public hearings to hear from people that are offended by the misappropriation of this image or that image. They could also be the arbiter of which group must give permission before using such masots (for example any team called "The Vikings" must first seek the blessing of the local chapter of The Sons of Norway).
