I hope you haven't bought a new EDGE Jersey yet
Gizmo replied to omnipotent_hudler's topic in General
Note this line for the story: If that's true the "new" fabric they are using is "old" fabric. So it sounds like they are merely going to keep the new jersey style and replace certain panels with the old fabric! -
I understand that the photo has been used by fans of various teams and passed around the Internet, but per Snopes the photo orginated with the Maple Leafs as part of a print ad campaign. For copyright purposes, they aren't likely going to risk plucking a photo that doesn't belong to them off the 'net and then use it in a commerical print ad. The print ad on the Snopes site shows the full vertical image that contains parts not present in the cropped versions that are passed around the Internet.

The Blog UniWatch is reporting that our hopes were pre-mature: So it looks like players will be given the option of a new "new" jersey. -
If you look at the Snopes link, the photo was from a deliberate ad photo shoot done by the Leafs for their print ad. It wasn't Photoshopped.

Here's a couple of things worth mentioning: 1) The Boston Herald story is merely a rumor from an un-named source. It's probably wise to hold off on the celebration until we get some confirmation. 2) It's not clear if what's rumored applies just to Boston or all NHL teams. 3) They might keep the same style, but merely switch from the new fabric back to the old. It's also interesting that some teams, like the NYR's are already hemming up the "shirt tails" of their new jerseys: -
Nice game guys!!! I'll be at the game on Friday... and I'm going to bring a sign that reads "Free Homer!!!"
-
The Coyotes goal was pretty much a mirror image of what Homer did (the highlights are still on NHL.com). I'm not ready to say that the refs are out to "get" Homer, but that was one major bogus call on him last game. However, I think the previous call (where he got open by shoving down the defender before he got the puck and put it in) was more warranted. After the whistle, Homer sorta smiled, shrugged his shoulders, and didn't seem to protest too much.

All I can picture is the dude in Slapshot wearing the helmet while at the keyboard!
-
No... The problem was that a lot of time elapsed until there was a whistle for a stoppage of play. My guess is that someone in the FSN truck looked at the replay and didn't see anything, so that combined with the passage of time (plus no one on the ice seemed to think it was a goal), made it not newsworthy by the time the finally could have shown it.

Getty has photos from this season (Calgary game) and last March of Ozzie wearing the same style pads against Chicago. Go to www.gettyimages.com, and then Editorial and Sports. Search on Chris's name and you'll see all of the photos.

Wishful thinking??? You realize that for a person to be featured on a stamp in the US, they have to be dead!

This one's too close to call... it's a coin flip (with an edge to the home team). The time works against the Wings, the Ducks are sick of losing and they'd like to erase the memory of that SO loss. But this time around the boys (ZDH) are back in town! P.S. Let hope the Wings can keep Pronger and his flying elbows in check!
-
That matches the photos of Chris from Getty Images. Also, they are are same type of pads he wore last March.

What's with all of the whistling and clapping throughout the singing of the National Anthem??? -
Hmmm... I always thought that was just a Gordon Lightfoot thing! BTW, after a victory my wife likes to say "Wed Wings Win!!!"

I found the actual response from Barry Meisel: MeiGray handles all of the jerseys for: Atlanta, Calgary, Colorado, Dallas, Edmonton, New Jersey, Nashville, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Toronto, Vancouver, and Washington. If there is a new jersey worn in any game this season by a player from any one of these teams, Barry's group is required to be notified about it so it can be given a serial number and tracked for authentication and later sale.

I thought the video from the Wings game was fine, but the video from the Stars/Avs game looked very dark and the color saturation was way down. It looked half-way like it was a black and white broadcast at times.
-
The $250 model is the same actual jersey the players wear. The one that's only $114 is one that's: 1) Made of somewhat different material. 2) Doesn't have a fight strap. 3) Has a straight hem, instead of the "dress shirt" hem of the ones the player's wear. 4) Has a large RBK size tag sown on to the front above the hem. 5) (I assume) has a different NHL logo on the back hem.
-
I think the jerseys are a "solution" in search of a set of problems that I don't think exist. As for the NHL's motivation, without a doubt it was financial. You only have to look at the mind numbing prices of what they want you to buy now. When, for a few dollars more, you can buy a real game worn Red Wings jersey instead of a new RBK Edge "authentic" jersey, something's outta whack. As for what the jerseys will "cost" the league... Well, we'd need to know the details of the contract first. The teams might be getting them on the cheap if RBK views them as a "loss leader" to drive sales to fans.
-
I objected initially too, but then it was pointed out that the Wings have worn the "C" on the right before with the Winged Wheel, so to me "What's old is new again". It might be somethings along the lines of using a special cleaning agent like the detergents that you buy to clean Gore-Tex fabrics. I'm not a fan of the new jerseys, but dIfferent doesn't automatically mean costly or complex in this case.
-
Yep, I saw that.... There was this one too. But you notice that neither article contains any comments from RBK reps. They seem to be assuming that the solution is a whole new jersey, even though the Crosby article says it "doesn't know" what the solution is.
-
With video replay, the only purpose the goal judges actually serve nowadays is to alert the people at the other end of JLA when a goal has been scored.
-
RBK seems like they're making all sorts of tweaks to the jerseys. For example, look at this photo of Backstrom and then this photo of Turco. They are now offering roomier sleeves for goalies. There is some confusion with some of these comments. The guy that runs the NHL Game Worn Jersey program that catalogs, tracks, and certifies NHL jerseys for a number of teams, Barry Meisel of MeiGray Group, talked to the people from RBK and they ARE NOT replacing the Set 1 jerseys. Instead they are working with the teams to change the cleaning techniques and will be applying a new treatment to the existing jerseys.
-
I understand where you're coming from, really. I collect game worn jerseys and notice stuff like that. But you gotta realize that we're far in the minority. You're average fan doesn't care that they're buying a 7/8th scale model. Also, with the exception of the guy working at the HA store at JLA, no souvenir vendor is going to know more about the product other than the name on the back, the size, replica vs. authentic, and the price. They're just there working for someone else and looking to make some extra dough.
-
Actually, there were a couple of other differences. 1) The material on the replicas was a bit lighter weight. 2) The band on the sleeve wasn't stitched in on the authentics, but instead the color change was dyed into the same piece of material. 3) And finally, the NHL logo on the back hem.
