5 Year-old Gives up Zamboni ride for little brother undergoing chemo
Gizmo replied to Gizmo's topic in General
I showed my wife the story and she had a great "reward" for Brody... A Zamboni ride at The Joe during the CCHA Finals! -
Sorry if I mis-attributed the quote to Jones.... but in addition to the counterpoint made by toby91_ca, your point might have been more valid if Milbury had likewise marched back into the stands his first game back from whatever punishment was meted out to him. That was Milbury's primary point... It takes a special kind of idiot to come back from a lengthy suspension and pull an instant repeat!

I think Keith Jones on Versus called it right... Gilles is a real "meathead" who just doesn't "get it".

I agree that the Sabres guy thinks that he's calling a Brazilian soccer game with the "Gooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal! schtick. My only complaint about Ken Cal is that when the Wings score he sounds like he's going through puberty, but at least it only lasts a second.

I think that as long as guys like Draper, Holmstrom, and Bertuzzi can keep being productive, then keep signing them. I love having a few wily veterans on the team. I think Bert's steal/goal yesterday was a prime example of that. Up until Chelios' last season, he was fun to watch out there with the "whipper-snappers". I recall one game a couple of years ago when Chelios (without looking) side-stepped a guy taking a run at him, causing the guy to board himself... Mickey laughed and said "I think Chris has seen that move a couple of times in his career!"

One of our kids is a Pee Wee travel goalie and when he saw the replay he knew exactly what happened. He manages to get hit in the knee like that about once a month, but thankfully at much slower velocities.
-
Cool... by my math we should see Pavel back soon too!
-
Nice work, if you can get it!
-
re: Hudler... Yeah, there was a lot of blood, but did you hear the commentator's amazement that Hudler was able to get back up after that hit? You think perhaps the visor absorbing some of the impact might have been a factor in Happy not getting knocked out cold or concussed? If Brown had make contact with Hudler's bare nose or eyebrow, don't you think that there'd still have been a mess on the ice?

I'm not saying they should be mandated either, I just think that people that don't wear are short-sighted (a fitting pun in some cases). Seat belt use can also worsen an injury in some cases, but the odds of protection are greatly in your favor for buckling up. And even in some cases where there is "injury" it might be better than if the player hadn't been wearing one. Take Helm's nose a couple of games ago when he was checked from behind into the boards. The visor bowed in and gashed his nose, but it likely saved a far worse facial injury and possible fracture.
-
And some people say that wearing seat belts affects their driving, some audiophiles claim that CDs can't touch vinyl for music, etc., etc. No doubt some players griped when the NHL made them wear helmets (probably complained about all the excess sweat getting in their eyes and affecting their vision too). As for the visors, getting a new pair of prescription glasses will affect your vision too... but your eyes/brain will adapt to the new "look" in about a day. My guess is that visors are the same. Your eyes will adjust... assuming you still have a functional eye, that is. Your vision is probably your most vulnerable sense. I wish more people would treat it that way. Ryan seems he may have gotten "lucky", the slo-mo appears to show that one edge of the puck caught the lip of the helmet. If so, the helmet took some of the impact.

I think the biggest problem is the differences between the "Premier" (ex-Replica) vs. "Authentic" jerseys. It's pretty rare to see a non-Authentic jersey and doesn't just "look off" in some way. But I agree that the current "Premier" jerseys look REALLY off with their letter/numbering sizes. If it bugs you, by hook or by crook, I'd recommend an "Authentic". If the cost scares you, you can save some $$$ by buying a blank one and using a reputable sports shop to add the customization for you for about $50.

Heck of a show tonight Ozzie!!! Awesome job on #400! That was a fun game to watch. I wasn't nervous at all tonight, somehow I knew they'd pull it off.

I'll add to the chorus of "I don't care for him on the ice, but..." crowd. I recall that his brother's problems led to his suicide (Tootoo wears his brother's number), so hope his treatment goes well. We also don't know which part of the program (substance vs. behavioral) that he's got issues with.

The Kalamazoo Wings do that annually... it's a hoot to see in person!
-
Me thinks it'd be Interference at the minimum!
-
Sorry, we in Kalamazoo have everyone beat: 1st Annual K-Wings "Golden Ice" night with Mickey D's sponsorship!!! Oh, and we also get bonus points for the urine colored ice!
-
Did you exclude empty netters from that list?
-
Nice... I knew what #1 was going to be without even looking!
-
I agree, weak list... But I will say that I was in attendance at their #1 (Go IU!) But how in the world do you leave out this classic from the 1979 Daytona 500 (Allison vs. Yarborough):

My director got them for the 2009 SCF straight off of Ticketmaster when then went on sale to the public. He actually excused himself from a staff meeting, and then returned a few minutes later to announced that he had landed a pair of tickets for one of the games.

At The Joe there's actually a Lexan "window" installed along the yellow dasher off to the goalie's right where they can mount a remote camera just like a "goal cam". It's located right where the trapezoid line meets the dasher on the end where the Wings shoot twice. I believe it was put in place for the 2008 SCF. And yes, that camera is using a "fish".

There's also a fundamental difference in the business model between a race car owner and the owner of a professional hockey team. The biggest being that the race car owner doesn't get any of the "gate" money directly. His car is shooting for a percentage of a total "purse" put up by the race promoter. The stands can be full, but if his driver is taken out by a first lap accident, his take home money can be quite small. Also, at the top levels of racing the purse (both series and race) isn't enough to cover a team's budget. AJ Foyt said that one of the Cardinal Rules of racing is "Never race with your own money!" It's the quickest way for a race team owner to go broke. The only way to field a competitive race team at the top levels of racing is to have a good sponsor. As for the "virtual ads", I also wonder who profits from them... Olympia Entertainment or FSN???

Well, I suppose it could be worse... It could have been Dianetics!

Uggh... Why did it have to be "Scamway"? There are few business entities that I personally despise more than that company after it, through its Kingpins, basically sucked my parents dry financially. Just this month Scamway settled the class action suit claiming that the business was a pyramid scheme. The key part: No kidding...
