That is awesome news, after this year ( maybe next ), we won't have to worry about Calgary for quite some time, Keenan will follow his usual M.O., and either trade Iginla, or Kipper, or both, get a whole bunch of " his type of players ", and run the team right into the ground. YAY!

My parents live on the west side (Venice), and my dad tells me only the Buccaneers have a more loyal following than the Bolts (D-Rays suck with HIDEOUS uni's ). But this is one LGW'er who definitely does not take the Lightning for granted. ( Plus they have very strong ownership...)

This is very true, BUT I would be willing to bet Tampa Bay had A LOT more fans show when they won a few years ago......

Oh I know it wasn't , no biggie. And I 100% agree with the Dallas comment , hell I was rooting HARD for them to beat the crap out of Colorado in 99 ( plus I'm a Modano fan..) Nope I was just saying given the choice of accept the NHL the way it is or not watching, I'll choose accepting the way it is every time...

True dat! HOWEVER ; i'd be willing to bet there are A LOT of hockey fans who feel this way. Unfortunately I have come to realize that Bettman isn't going away and the NHL now "is what it is". So I have to ask myself do I continue to watch and support the sport that I love, or say screw it, there's always baseball and hockey. (The NBA blows too..) As side note I would love to have a private chat with Mike Iilitch and get his off the record totally honest opinion of Mr. Bettman ( I bet it would be QUITE entertaining...)

Cleveland had an NHL team. It failed. It merged with Minnesota in the 70s, split back off in the 90s, and is now located in San Jose. Columbus supports their team better than Cleveland ever did. I'm pretty sure this is incorrect, Minnesota may have merged with a Cleveland team, but Minnesota moved to Dallas in the early 90's, San Jose was a true expansion team.

If I'm not mistaken I believe a lot of the "New NHL" was a result of Shanahan's "Competition Comittee". As fo this NEW NHL you speak of, somethings I like, something's I don't ( lack of fighting, shoot outs etc..), apparently lack of attendance doesn't seem to scare the owners because I kept hearing all year long how figures were down. Tv ratings? well apparently that doesn't matter either to the owners because the 1st game of the SCF was scheduled on what is traditionally an OUTDOOR HOLIDAY, and drew LESS than a million US viewers. Bettman, as far as I'm concerned is only gulity of too much expansion too quickly, and not enough consistency in league wide changes that are implemented. Until the owners, Bettman, AND the players ALL get on the same page and decide to strictly go European Style Hockey, or bring back the good old days we as fans are STUCK with the "New NHL" love it , or hate it.....

I stated in the Chelios thread earlier today that I would love to see Cheli wearing the C, that being said, I think Lidstrom did MORE than a fine job in his 1st year as Captain.

It's nice to see someone views Messier the same way I do. as for Chelios' comments about playing with the Wings, yeah I do vaugley remember that, I based the C thing on his competitive fire, which he obviously still has truck loads of.

It's really too bad that we don't know when he'll hang up the skates because as much as I admire Lidstrom , Chelios SHOULD be wearing the C for this team. Especially after winning the Mark Messier(Should-be-named-the Steve Yzerman ) Award.

I wouldn't mind Hartnell either, but could you imagine the uproar here on LGW because of his rep? But as a bonus IF we had Hartnell at least he couldn't run OUR goalies!
