I think photoshop threads for the playoffs should be MANDATORY on LGW, some of the pictures posted last year during the SJ and Anaheim match ups made me laugh harder than I have in a long time!

Okay this is a fun thread. I am about to turn 40 (no laughing!!) this year. I didn't even start watching hockey until 1983 (ironically The Captain's 1st year) So of course every one I list will be in that time frame. I could say guys like Lindsay, Howe, Richard , etc...but why would I ? I never saw them in their hey-day so...... Top 5 Favorites in order: 1. Steve Yzerman ( no brainer) 2. Pat LaFontaine 3. Cam Neely 4. Bob Probert (because dammit, who doesn't love a good fight?) 5. Mike Modano ( don't ask me why, just do....) Honorable Mention: 1. Chris Chelios 2. Joe Sakic (because I respect the hell out of the guy...) 3. Al Iafrate (met him at a bar once , was very cool , and that slap shot was a BEAST!) 4. Aaron Ward (because my son when he was just 4 asked him if he knew Shanahan at an autograph signing, and if he did he could send him to his house so he could meet him. Ward thought this was the best thing he had heard all day and told my son he'd see what he could do.. ) 5. Sergei Federov (because I was in line behind him in '94 at a Perry's Drugs in West Bloomfield while I watched him buy the BIGGEST bottle of Vodka I had ever seen! )

In the year 2018 my son will have graduated from College and will sign his 1st NFL contract (3rd round draft pick or higher!) he will buy me & my wife a house in Arizona, of course we will both retire at the young age of 48!! He will be named Defensive Rookie of the year in the NFL, and his team will win Super Bowl 51 !! The state of Michigan's population by that time will have shrunk to less than that of Montana. Gas will cost 5.27 a gallon. SUV's have been deemed as illegal by the federal government. The NHL will have contracted back to 21 teams just like it was in the good old 80's. The Wings will have won 4 Stanley Cups in '11, '12, '14, and '16. Nicklas Lidstrom wins the Jack Adams award as head coach of the Wings in '11 & '14. Steve Yzerman is voted GM of the year in those same two seasons. Okay, my Nostradamus moment is now over !

Thank you! That's what I said somewhere earlier in this post. If we couldn't use VALUABLE cap space for a player like Stuart ( or similar to him...) in the off season, then why is it TOTALLY acceptable to waste two draft picks on him?

Steve Chaisson (may he R.I.P.) for Mike Vernon was a damn good trade. Who did the Wings trade to get Bob Essensa and Sergei Bautin from Winnipeg? Because even if it was just a bag of pucks that trade was God awful. And for those of you that don't remember, Sergei Bautin was a throw in from Winnipeg on that trade, I think he MAY have appeared in one game for Wings. His claim to fame was that he was an overweight Russian D-man who liked to smoke in the locker room after games.

This is the most valid point of the whole day! This money could have been used to give the team depth at the start of the season, but NO! It had to be stuffed under a mattress for a rainy day. Now we have WASTED two draft picks on a MARGINAL D-man that we most likely will not resign! Brilliance, sheer brilliance!

So here we are, our favorite team is done until next week. 51 games down, 31 to go. If the Wings slump HARD and only win 16 of those games, they will STILL end up with 110 points on the year. Wow! Is anyone here at all concerned that the regular season is coming way too easy for the Wings and that a HUGE playoff letdown may be in the offing??
