I'm hoping he comes alive in the post season. I've never been a big Flip fan, and I was not impressed when I heard how much he was signed for. I too am still waiting for him to have his "breakout season". I think this is about the 3rd season in a row now that was supposed to happen.... And now instead, people are saying he needs to play more minutes and he'll have his breakout season??? You need to prove yourself worthy of more ice time before you get it. In my opinion, Flip has always been a timid player with confidence issues.

Anyone else just see Eric Zane from Free Beer and Hot Wings in the Griffins jersey behind the Oilers net?
-
He wrote almost that same reply to me the other night too Crymson, the all-mighty, doesn't understand that passionate Red Wings fans get upset by piss-poor play sometimes.
-
I completely agree with what Yellowknife said.

I can't comment on this, because I have absolutely no idea what this is supposed to mean. I think you were trying to say something intelligent in a smart-ass sort of way? Please don't bother responding.

Is anyone else tired of reading "things will be different in the playoffs", etc? I know I sure am. These games do matter, regardless of all the people that say they don't. There is absolutely no excuse for the loss last night. When I left for work, they were up 4-1. I got to work and turned on the tube and saw it was a shootout! I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Then I saw the highlights of how the game got tied up.....well, I'll keep my thoughts on that to myself. After the 3rd period meltdown against the Kings, I figured that would have been enough of a wake up call to make sure that didn't happen again. Boy was I wrong. I can see one or two meltdowns a season...every team has them over the course of 82 games. However, this Wings team is flopping like that way too much to not be very concerned. Instead of finishing off an easy win against a conference and playoff foe, they chocked hard and let the Coyotes accumulate 2 more points to their playoff position. Every game against a Western Conference playoff contender is very important, especially this time of year. I can't for the life of me understand how a team as talented as the Wings can be so great one night, then suck so horrible the next. There is absolutely no dispute that the Wings may be one of, if not the most talented team in the league right now. Obviously there is something going on, aside from coaching like everyone seems to blame, in which the Wings are lacking severely this year. Call it drive, chemistry, heart, whatever. Whatever it is, it's not present right now. And if the Wings have any desire to be a Cup contender (which is certainly debatable from their play this season), they better sit down and reevaluate some things or this is going to be a VERY short playoff run. That game last night was beer league horse s*** if I've ever seen it. I love the Wings and want them to do well as bad as everyone else, but that game last night left me the most disgusted I've been regarding a Wings game is a very long time. I'm going to end my disgusted rant with a quote from Babcock regarding last night. I think it sums it up quite perfectly: "There gets to be a point in your season where you've got to decide if you think you're a championship-caliber team. There is a right way to play, and unless you get 23 guys doing it the same way, nothing is going to happen."

I totally agree. I hope, but don't see the Wings going deep this year.

I forgot he was even out....guess I didn't notice

I pretty much turned it on, then turned it right off when I saw Roenick flapping his arrogant gums....

"My name is Al Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!"

I'm probably in the minority here, but I feel Stuart being out has a greater impact than Dats being out. It's becoming obvious just what a key part of the Wings' team Stuart is, and just how valuable he is.

Same here...I can't stand him or the way he speaks. Drives me nuts and his attempt at humor at times is terrible.
-
EXACTLY. This is a prime example of why I hate him so much. He is such a sore loser and poor captain.

The Todd is a god damn stud....whichever line he's playing on, that line scores. Leading in +/-, a ton of assists....a god damn stud. He's a major factor in the Wings' success thus far this season.

Behind the Scenes Look to Howard's New Mask Design

Very cool, thanks for posting. -
So let me get this straight...you are saying a goalie is not responsible for stopping shots high on the weak side? So if he had scored in the 5 hole instead, the goalie still would not be to blame because the shooter was experienced and had time to pick his spot and "sniped" it? Gimmie a break man...Osgood totally blew that one, nobody to blame but him.

Are hockey hits harder than football hits?
Copenhagen848 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I'm going to have to easily go with football on this one. Hitting is a part of hockey, while hitting IS football. There is no way the NFL could go 82 games a season because of all the hitting and contact it's players have to endure. Most of the teams would be wiped out by the end of the season simply from the nature of the game and the constant contact nearly every play. Of course there are very violent, hard hits in hockey, but there are many more in football. Especially the hits that many receivers and running backs endure every game...they are constantly getting rocked at high speeds. I love hockey more than any other sport by far, but if I had to take a pounding, I'd rather take it on the ice than on the football field. -
If things continue all season for The Todd as they have thus far....he and his beard will only be rivaled by that of Chuck Norris. I've been a fan of The Todd since the '02 playoffs. He was an absolute beast! He was one of the players that I loved to hate, because he was so good. I never imagined I'd see that big #44 in red and white but am thrilled about it! So glad he was re-signed for a couple more years. I was actually at his first game playing as a Wing a few years ago against Columbus (shootout loss ) when they picked him up at the trade deadline.

I'm seeing this rivalry heating up now...future games should be fun to watch

This line was what, -2 again tonight?
-
As mentioned, he's definitely capable of 40+. My only gripe with Franzen is that he's soft as far as injuries go. I voted 25-30 as I'm sure he'll be sitting more games out due to injury.

Modano needs to start letting it rip....I saw several times last night where he passed the puck/turned it over instead of shooting. One time he had a wide open lane to the net. He's probably still a little uneasy playing on his first "new" team in how many years?

Hossa. Wanted him signed long term badly. Oh well....
