Steve Yzerman is the greatest captain of the Detroit Red Wings....ever. Hence his nickname "THE Captain". Lidstrom is a great player, but you have to wonder how much of his demeanor, class, and professional manner came from watching/playing with Steve Yzerman. It is my opinion that Lidstrom would not be the same or as good of a player as he is today if had not been for playing with the Red Wings organization. And the Wings organization would not be what it is today without Steve Yzerman. In other words, you don't get the Lidstrom of today without the Steve Yzerman of yesterday. For obvious reasons I choose Yzerman over Lidstrom....and as mentioned, he is a god in Hockeytown.

I agree....I'd like to have Bertuzzi back.

God I miss him....

Hossa: "Its great to be in a hockey town."

What is he supposed to say? "Yeah, I'd rather be in Detroit but we couldn't agree on numbers so I settled for Chicago instead.....it's okay, but I'd rather be somewhere else...." get real man, I'd be excited if I were Hossa too, let's face it, the Hawks have a pretty good chance for a deep playoff run and as mentioned, he can now settle in and get really comfortable with his team. -
I would like to see Big Bert back again....I liked seeing that big #44 out there.
-
I can't imagine him leaving the Red Wing organization....I'll be extremely surprised and disappointed if this happens. I don't think it will however.

Better? Are you serious? No way in hell. They aren't going to suck, but I'm certainly not expecting them to go deep in the playoffs. We've been spoiled in years past, but I personally think this coming season is going to be one of the worst (comparatively speaking) seasons in a while. If they do go deep that's great, but like I said, I'm certainly not expecting it.

With the exception of scoring a couple timely goals the past couple years, the guy drove me insane. Call me a jerk, but I'm very happy that he and Kopecky are gone - couldn't stand either of them.

I agree. Hossa owes the Red Wings NOTHING. He signed a one year deal, and has fulfilled that deal, period. He had a great regular season, but had trouble in the post season. s*** happens. It's his decision to play where he wants. Obviously, he liked the deal Chicago could make him better. End of story. I still like Hossa and will get nervous whenever he touches the puck when the Wings play the Blackhawks, just like I did when he played for Pittsburgh - because he's a great player. I don't boo players like Marian Hossa. I have no reason to boo him and doubt that I ever will. Good luck Marian and thanks for the season in Detroit, you were fun to watch as a member of the Wings.

I'll be honest, I have no desire to see Hudler stay. He may have good hands, but he just gets knocked around too much.
-
I wish Hossa the best of luck with Chicago. I have no hard feelings at all. I loved seeing him on the Wings and wish there was a way to sign him long term. Oh well, we'll still be seeing plenty of him, just on the other side...
-
Wow, they overpaid for him HUGE! I'm so glad he's gone....and I'm not just saying that either. He sucks.

Blackhawks and Rangers

Hossa is a beast...plain and simple. He had a bad playoff year...plain and simple. If you can sign Marian Hossa for a long term deal in the $4-$5 million cap hit range, you sign him, unless you are an idiot....plain and simple. I've been waiting to get a new jersey to finally retire my Yzerman one. If the Hoss signs long term - his will be it.

Pronger is one of those guys you HATE - until he plays on your team. Although, he IS a cheap shot artist.....Hmmmm, I'm not sure how I'd feel if he played for the Wings.
-
Malkin was a bust last year, look at him this year. Hossa is that caliber of player as well....just didn't get in the groove this playoff run. He was a beast for Pitts last year. I can't stand reading all this stuff about "Hossa sucks, see ya Hossa, etc" especially coming from the same "fans" that were saying "Hossa rocks, sign Hossa - see ya Mule, etc". It does make it easy to tell who the bandwagon fans are though.... I'd love to see Hossa remain a Wing.
-
You people that call yourselves fans are amazing....blame the entire game on one player? Gimmie a break! He had a bad night, but the whole team sucked last night with the exception of a select few.

Outstanding season by the Penguins.....clearly they wanted it more. It is a cool story with the turnaround after the coaching change then they came back from being down 0-2 in two different series and won them both in game 7. Congrats. Very good season for the Wings as well.

I think it's a funny picture, and my job is greatly affected by Michigan's current economic crisis. Why do I think it's funny you ask? Because it's just an opposing team's hockey player standing in front of a sign that says something related to the current battle for the Stanley Cup. No more, no less. Many of you people need to lighten up and get a sense of humor, this picture means nothing and I don't think one ounce less of Guerin for it.

As a couple others have mentioned, the TV will be turned off at the sound of the buzzer and I will avoid any NHL coverage until July 1st. I absolutely cannot stand the thought of Sidney Crosby hoisting the Cup or knowing that it worked out probably exactly as Bettman wanted.....I pray that it never happens.

I really didn't have a problem with Crosby until last year's finals. I remember watching a press conference after the game that Hank really dominated him and prevented him from scoring a sure goal in front of the net. Somene asked him about that great play that Hank made and he responded with "I really didn't think it was really that good of a play....." or something like that. It seriously reminded me of what a little kid would say. I remember thinking "Man, that was a stupid response, there is no way Stevie or Lids would say something like that....." Crosby will NEVER, EVER give credit where credit is due - he makes excuses or tries to downplay things instead of just saying "Yeah you know, we got outplayed, they were better than us tonight, etc". Just like in games 1 and 2 of this year, it was the boards' fault. After that, it just continued and has gotten worse and worse. He shows his true colors in the face of adversity. These two final runs have been a clear example of that. Sidney Crosby may be a great hockey player, but he is a poor leader. He may be able to "handle the pressure of the media well" or whatever else NBC says he does off the ice, but when it comes to on-ice and team leadership, he's terrible IMO. And as mentioned, his nomination for the leadership award is very disappointing because there are FAR better leaders in the NHL ahead of Sidney Crosby.

WCF GAME 4 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Penguins 4
Copenhagen848 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
The first thing I thought of when he was skating with his arms out was a figure skater before they do one of those spin things.......which makes sense because he is a ******* fairy. -
Take a shot for every time "Doc" says a Penguin made a huge hit when it was nothing more than a simple nudge or miss. Or when a Wing lays out a Penguin with a beauty and he says nothing more than "nudged off the puck" or something similar. Or every time Edzo says "active stick".
