SCF Game 3 GDT: Penguins 3, Red Wings 2

We were lucky enough to have Milbury in a game on NBC last round while Olzcyk was in the studio. I was hoping Mcguire immigrated back to his home planet LV-426 or something. But no...I must now suffer the insufferable with Mcguire for 3 hours. -

He's a total homer, but I like the guy. He's far more tolerable than national idiots like Rome. I'm amazed he'd say that about Holmquist, though. -
This whole obstruction thing
Probert 5 For Fighting replied to Probert 5 For Fighting's topic in General
Obstruction shall be defined as any tactic by a player who attempts to or who restrains an opponent who is not in possession of the puck, or who physically prevents an opponent from moving freely in the direction he wishes to go. The term 'obstruction' shall be used coupled with the appropriate foul (holding, hooking, interference, tripping) when the obstruction offense occurs in the neutral zone." Basically, playing the man when he doesn't have the puck. It was brutal watching games in the late 90s and before the lockout. Players literally wiped out guys who were trying to jump into the rush without any repricussions. If you dumped it in, you'd just get clutched and grabbed and the forecheck would be over. I have seen none of that from Detroit. I've seen a lock in the neutral zone, but that's body positioning and skating. When Detroit starts to knock guys around who aren't near the play, than accusing us of obstruction might hold water. -
This whole obstruction thing

We both spoke candidly, but it really wasn't getting anywhere. He kept inadvertently praising us by talking about Pitts's inability to score and how bad Malkin has been, but he kept bringing up the fact that Detroit clogged things in the neutral zone blah blah. "We're boring. yuck blah blah" Can't really convince a radio host to take Pitts' cock out of his mouth in 3 minutes. I'm 60% sure he hasn't watched the games, because game 1 was very spirited until the floodgates opened in the 3rd, and the other night was just methodical domination after we jumping out to an early lead. After I hung up he talked about how the NHL needed a team back like the 2004 Lightning, who "skated up and down". Yeah, THOSE great days. Where Marty St Louis won the frikken Hart and Ross with 94 points or something(And I believe Lang was 5th with 79...79!!!!), and the average score of a game was 2-1. Spare me. 2004 was the apex of the deadpuck era. -
I'm not going to get into another one of those tired arguments filled with excuses about our poor attendance, but spare me the talk about keeping a roof over their heads and making it seem like Michigan is Ethiopia. A little more clearity to the situation, please. Thousands upon thousands of people fill up Ford Field to watch the most Godforsaken team in the NFL, a one-year wonder Tigers team, and the Pistons each and every year. Organizations in other sports all across the country are keeping their attendance up despite their OWN economic depressions, and they're not in the Stanley frikken Cup finals. I drive up 2 hours to Tampa Bay to watch a Rays game every now and then, and I'm lower-middle class in a struggling housing market strapped with 4.00 gas too. I cut off other nonessentials for the sake of supporting my team. It's that simple. But that's not what the topic is about, so I'll let the original discussion carry on.

Based on our inability to fill our own arena, I don't think we have to worry about transplant fans making the trek to Pittsburgh.

Girl almost born at the Joe in 1998 SCF game 1

Sorry, that's one of the most pathetic things I've ever read.(Nothing against the kid, more against the parents) Lady, when you're in labor, seperate your unhealthy love for your hockey team from the well being of you and your baby. I've just always been really bothered with people who put way too much stock into their favorite teams. It's a bit disturbing. -

Malkin and Crosby have proven to be other-worldy offensive talents, just like Dats and Zeta. Big difference is, Dats and Zeta are also premier defensive studs at this stage in their careers. Guys like Yzerman and Dats took years before they reached Selke-caliber levels after being so one-dimensional early on. Down the line, I'd expect both Malkin and Crosby to rival our duo. In the meantime, just enjoy them getting shut down.

I've been annoyed with it since Ozzie flopped like noone has flopped before on that Ribiero slash. However, it is part of the game, and I commend Babcock for schooling them well on this stuff. If this is how the new NHL will be called, this is how they're going to take advantage of it. Changes will happen years down the line, but until then, flop away and instigate. Just don't think we're any more classy than anybody else, because diving is just as crappy as cheapshots in the class department.
-
Cowardly goes both ways, and opposing teams find our Wings to be quite cowardly when they often instigate scuffles and avoid all the fighting and gritty stuff. Granted, I love that when it baits teams into penalties and it's a skill we've mastered...but it's certainly cowardly as well. Most fans with rose-colored glasses wont admit to it, but it's there. Our Wings aren't saints, they just pick their spots very, very, very well.

Lets count how many times they say Sidney Crosby
Probert 5 For Fighting replied to NHLrules?'s topic in General
Indeed. Great captains venture off into the wilderness before each game, knock a tree on top of themselves intentionally only after mauling a black bear for the hell of it. They then saw off both their arms and break free, armless. In the midst of all this, a grizzled beard manifests on their face, making them totally badass. Next comes the baby punching. One of the babies is a communist, so the captain has no trouble ripping that babies limbs off and using them as his new arms. No wait, scratch that. He takes TWO commie babies and uses their entire bodies as new arms. He then arrives to the rink just in time for the puck drop, looks deeply into the eyes of the opponent, and wills his team to victory with his sheer glare and pornstache. Because that's what great captains are supposed to do. And Crosby is a cock for displaying none of that. f*** him for leading his team to the Finals in just his third season. -
Thank you. It's almost painful to come in here sometimes after a win. More complaints about the other teams feistiness than our own efforts. It's as if some people expect the other team to roll over or gravel at the sight of our Redwings skating around them. And for the record, 75% of these so called cheapshots are REALLY embellished by our diving extraordinaires.

We can drop it now. Dude's living on cloud 9 with the attention his blog's gotten. Wings fans shouldn't be the type who run in packs on the internet and hound a guy with homer-goggled drivel. Let's leave that to Preds fans. All 4 of them.

Everything I've read is hypothetical. Just a bunch of fans who hope ESPN picks it up again. I've yet to see any headlines beyond the typical rumormongering. If there's anything substantial to the contrary, I'd love to see it. From a business standpoint, if I were ESPN, I wouldn't touch the NHL with a ten-foot poll. It's a waste of their money, sadly.

O'Hallaran - Default call is 'interference'?
Probert 5 For Fighting replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
I love this guy. So all dump-ins from 101 ft should be called icing, based on the technical interpretation of the rule? Dig, dig, dig. No s*** it's about judgement - and for you to propose judgement calls should not be challenged is ridiculous. Let me guess - it takes the "human element" out of the game? Oh woe is us. Our mistakes will get corrected. The robots have won! -
They got nothin' on those Dick Scott Dodge commercials back in the late 90's. Wonder if there's any updated versions of those being run in game breaks now. Oh how I miss living in Michigan...
-
Er, because you actually have to negotiate a network deal before that could happen? Can't just snap your fingers and have the Wings-Pens on ESPN tomorrow. The whole season will have to be accounted for, not just a 7-game series. Considering how s***tacular hockey ratings were when it was last on ESPN, I doubt we'll see it there soon. And the high ratings for this series should come as no surprise. The league has had to endure very limited markets winning the Cup the past 3 years(ANA,CAR,TB), so of course the percentage increase will look huge. Coupled with Crosby being in the Finals, average Joe fan support increased.

Gotta give the guy credit. To keep writing a blog that nobody reads or responds to is pretty commendable.

Probert 5 For Fighting replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
I usually enjoy trying to tell my fellow Wings fans to get a grip and take off their homer goggles, but in this case, I agree: God awful call. And eva, man, I commend you for spewing so much BS and coming back for more. The part about Holmstrom affecting Fleury's ability to get in position was particularly priceless. I'm not a homer by longshot, I consider myself pretty knowledgeable of the game, and I would think anyone not sporting a Super Mario avatar could clearly see how BS that call was. By your disgustingly technical explanation, pretty much any player movement on the ice could be considered a hinderance to the goalies ability to get in position. STAND STILL PEOPLE! -
Has Kronwall Been Our Best Defenseman In These Playoffs?
Probert 5 For Fighting replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Best? No. ESPN favorite and another shining example of how often Lidstrom's quiet greatness gets overlooked? Yes. It's not even a contest. Lidstrom has made everything tick. Kronner has been fantastic, but Lidstrom's impact can't even be measured because of technically correct he is at all times. So let the highlights give Kronner his due, but he has not been on Lidstrom's level in the playoffs. -
I'd say the fact that the Wings basically have 4 checking lines has more to do with than fatigue or a flu. He looked awful yesterday. Flu or not, he's much better than that, and Draper and co. stifled him.

Clearly, breaking down that drivel piece by piece would cause terminal heart failure and an overwhelming amount of internal bleeding...but what the hell, I just gotta say a few things: -Chelios? Beloved? Really? Christ, all the fairweather fans who hated Sergei would gladly root for him before Cheli. No offense to Cheli, but he's probably the 57th most beloved Redwing since we've become the class of the league. Just ahead of Bob Rouse. -Wings fans are overdressed? Aside from the scantily clad beauts showing off their **** behind Babcock last night, Detroit is your typical drunken, beer-bellied, diehard fan atmosphere. There is nothing at all glamorous about the Joe or the fans. Are you kidding? -re: point #9: That's a reason to hate the Wings? You've made it a point to mention Maltby twice when no Wings fan has talked about him in years. Please disengage your mouth from his testes. Basically, if you gets past all the meaningless bulletpoints, he's just a xenophobe and a racist who can't get over the fact that guys like Stu Grimson and Tie Domi have no place in the game anymore, and hates that the Redwings are led by guys with "skill" instead of "fighting skill." Dude's a huge tool. And judging by all the comments on his blog, he probably wasn't worth the time of day to link him here. So thanks for giving the asshat the recognition he never deserved. Christ, look at him. 25 years of shame, swirlies and pent up virgin suicide resonate all over his ugly mug. He wouldn't have made it as an extra Scotsman in Braveheart.
