The homer call could possibly be a good thing
b.shanafan14 replied to WingMachine91's topic in General
Adversity I can definately stand. And I completely agree that the reason we made it so far in the playoffs last season was because we had to battle the entire season, things didn't come as easy. And the Red Wings as of late I believe have been getting lacks on defense and their secondary scoring is almost non-existant anymore. I do think hard fought games are good for a team. That said, this situation doesn't have to do with the Wings winning too easily, or coasting. This has to do with a hard-fought, rivalry game, nationally televised for a change being decided not by the mutual fighting, working, adversity on the ice, but by a guy in stripes who made an absolute terrible, embarrassing call. I know you don't think it was a penalty DRW Dominance, and you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but in my opinion it was the very definition of horrible call and referee decided game. I'm all for adversity, but when you play 59:20 of hard-fought hockey and allow a officiating snafu like that, it makes it all meaningless. -

You would think that something like this would prompt them to lay off of Homer at last, but then again this is Gary Bettman's NHL afterall. How many legit goals have been disallowed this season alone purely because Homer was in front? 5 or 6 now. How many goals can you recall, even without "homer" shaded glasses, that were counted and shouldn't have been because Holmstrom interfered? NONE. They know they are bad calls in hindsight each time and they continue to call. Its like they are the guys trying to catch Capone slipping up and got nothing. Its like Bettman has a bounty on Homer's head and the one that catches him in the act of interfering gets a big fat reward. Its ridiculus. Do goalies hate being screened? YES. Is what Holmstrom does and is the best in the league at doing legal? YES. I don't see them changing their ways, and certainly never will they give Holmstrom the benefit of the doubt. Its sad. Its pathetic. Its embarrassing for an otherwise heated game to be bastardized in the last minute on national broadcast. But it won't change, and refs will never have to own up to pissy calls that ruin games, and coaches and players that talk too much about poor officiating will continue under the threat of monetary fines and the system, the "sport" Gary Bettman so eagerly wants to market to everyone who doesn't like hockey will continue to replace the sport called hockey that anyone who actually cares is tuning in for. -
Agree. Everyone knows Bettman wants to pander to bigger markets, not hockey markets and especially with the nationally televised games. Tonite was an officiating sham. How you don't call Kunitz for the sucker punch or what I believe is still considered rape in most states on a goaltender with what appeared to be a legitamately frozen puck and then turn around a disallow a goal with such CERTAINTY when anyone with eyes can see there is no interference, it makes me ill. The referees have no consequence for poor performance and coaches who get too vocal about them get fined. Bettman loves Cali and today's game was an embarrassment to the sport of hockey and the NHL. The review and non-review of goals is baffling in itself, like some bureaucratic trick. The puck is in the net and allowed, but we can overturn it. The puck is in the net and not allowed, no review? Its one of those things that is put up nice and big in high-definition for the world to see its wrong with no means to make it right? Its the equivalent of fumble in the NFL, if deemed a fumble it can be reviewed and called down, but if it is deemed down, it can never again be a fumble.

that about sums up my thoughts.... If you are going to make that call, make it reviewable.......... f***

I.... UGH!.... FUH.... damn.... (*still too pissed about that call, have to come back later*)

I noticed that when I watched too, and tight away I imagined: Pav: Cool! Me play too!? Hank: Hold on, I'll ask.... EMMMMA! Can Pav come over and play Vii?! Emma: No, Henrik, I just finished cleaning up after you two the last time Pavel was over. I need a break. Hank: Come oooon, please?! Emma: Henrik, I said no and I mean it! Pav/Hank: ... *****.... Hank: ....come over anyways. Pav: I'm in our drive way. Hank: saveet!

yeah, not even from a "homer" stand point, Mick gets pissed at s***ty calls for or against the Wings. There really is no way to fix it tho, refs see ghosts and call phantom penalties. I wish there was a way to make the refs stop keying on Holmstrom for doing his job within the rules, and that diving penalty last night was absurd. And the funny thing is, it was like they were looking for Holmstrom to screw up for just about anything, apparently when he got the curtain call hook around his skate, he fell down too quickly for the refs liking.... oh well, I could ***** all day about pissing calls....

Kozlov gives me the feeling like when you borrow something to someone and then they keep borrowing it to their friends and you get pissed trying to track it down and get it back
-
All of the previously mentioned, and for some reason, whenever I see Slava Kozlov in ATL I feel like its just a matter of time before he is back in the winged-wheel, so Kozlov as a Wing I guess, Jagr as a Penguin I think too

Blake Article, "Could be good fit for Wings"
b.shanafan14 replied to Wings_Dynasty's topic in General
If the Wings need anything, its a reliable physical stay-at-home defenseman, if for nothing else then to give us blueline depth so we don't run into injury trouble like last post season when we lost two top 4 D-men to injury (Schnieder, Kronwall) which I think proved to be the difference. I really wish the Wings would have kept Markov, I liked him on the back end, and now the Wings are nearing deadline on top of the league with a few million burning a hole in their pocket, imagine if we would have kept Markov... OH WELL! too late now, as far as Blake: Pass, too injury prone, too old, not his old self -
I need help with the math for the rest of the season...

Very cool website, didn't know hockey fans went to MIT My favorite is looking at the West as a whole and how the "big games" effect everyone. The Red Wings aren't even listed because they are too far ahead to be affected in the slightest -
so basically if the Wings blow teams out every night, get to the playoffs and flop, they are too skilled and too soft. but if they grind out wins, still have some blow outs and shut outs, and are running away from the rest of the league, they aren't good enough? Just goes to show how badly the Red Wings need to win the Cup this year
-
I always liked Rafalski when he was in Jersey, and I love him as a Red Wing. I was pissed when I saw Schneider blow town for the "champs", but as soon as I saw Ken signed Raffy, I was thinking cup all the way. Fits like a glove... I thought he played really well against the Ducks. He got the piss hit out of him, being on the receiving end of a few big ones, but he played through and played great. He had the games first goal and was + on the night. Being a smaller team, a lot of the Wings aren't able to deliver hits, so Rafalski taking a lickin' and keepin' on tickin' fits right into the system, and if he can keep it up in the playoffs and injury free, the Wings will have a lot of success

I've always thought Afinogenov was a waste of skill on a player with little/no drive. He can be good, but so could Samsonov. They are similiar in that way. We don't need passagengers or players Z or Pav could make better, they could make basically anyone better (besides Samuelsson)

It does suck that sometimes I feel we come off as cinical asses as a forum whenever someone has something they are passionate about. But we're just being realistic.... sorry Leadzedder

As much as I love the Ducks woes, especially since Neidermeyers return and the announced return of Selanne and Brian Burke being the devil, I would hate to face the Ducks in the first round. But I don't see them being #8 seed either way, so I'll continue to root for the team opposite Anahiem. As much as I wouldn't want to play a POS chincy team like the Ducks again, am I insane for almost wanting to see Wings-Ducks II in the playoffs so the Wings could beat them and shut some people up???

It all sounds pretty good, in theory. But I guess I better start poking holes in theory - As much as I HATE Forsberg, I can't help think the Foppa-Zata-Homer line would be great, except that lately all have had injury trouble, worst of which being Forsberg - Federov is Lazy and He Sucks, sorry to break it to everyone, but these days the guy is getting paid something like $6 M a season in Columbus to do exactly dick. He'll go where the money takes him, and Detroit certainly ain't gonna be willing to pay him much. - My feelings about Darren McCarty are as follows: Loved the guy during the cup runs, was indispensible as a character guy and enforcer and still somehow chipped in goals. I think McCarty's luck has run out tho. I appreciate what the guy is doing trying to get back, but I think its too little too late. - I would keep the legs in the D line up (Lebda) and lose the dead weight (Lilja) - Blake would be good I think, though he definately isn't getting any younger. Then again, neither is Chelios and maybe he could get a boost from being on a contender for a change. In a perfect world, we would get everyone in their prime at a price even cheaper than they are going for now. But since Bertuzzi isn't banned from the league for the hit on Moore, Pronger isn't in a wheel-chair, and Yzerman and Shanny ain't in the Winged-Wheel, No.1 and 2 in scoring in the NHL, the world must not be perfect. I hope we do make some move at the deadline, keeps the excitement up a bit as long as you don't mess with the core and as long as you don't take on another Todd Bertuzzi.

haha THANK YOU! I loved the stream of Boos that came down for Bettman at the ASG, and he just shrugged like "Thats my mama!" I wonder how often Bettman and Crosby meet for dinner, get a little too drunk on Boons Farm and seltzer, and find themselves kissing and then awkwardly discussing how its no big deal, but they should keep in on the DL

I think if Hank stays healthy the rest of the season, its POSSIBLE. But you have to consider that some players like Z might get a rest in the last couple weeks to get ready for playoffs, especially with his injury trouble. But I hope he gets his 50 goals. Z and Pav should both get to 95-100+ points. Lidstrom and Pav should end up #1 and #2 in +/- Lidstrom is a lock for Norris no. 6 Pav will win the Lady Byng for the 3rd straight year. Ozzy and Hasek will share a Jennings for GAA. Serious Selke consideration for Datsyuk with +/- coupled with takeaways Serious Jack Adams consideration for Babcock Serious Hart consideration for Lidstrom, Zata if he stays healthy, keeps pace (1.4 pts/game) Pav and Hank both in the running for Art Ross. President's Trophy should be a lock for the Red Wings. BUT, without a Stanley Cup, they will all be short lived victories.
-
I think its true both would be happy to have their name on the cup, but no one can say its not sweeter to be the goaltender who got the team to the Cup in the playoffs. They are both playing great. I prefer Ozzy, but a Cup is a cup and both if play continues, give us a great chance at winning. My ONLY problem with this and many other threads, besides the seemingly endless goaltending disputes mid-season, (while more valid when Hasek was slumping and Osgood was unbeatable) is when I see a great many people saying that no matter how good one plays or bad the other plays, Hasek should start in the playoffs. We are all Red Wings fans, and I respect that everyone has their goaltender of choice, but the only reason we should choose a goaltender to get us through playoffs over another is for their play in the 2007-2008 regular season. And I don't believe that ends for another two months....

so far this season, if Ovechkin keeps pace and the Caps somehow make the playoffs, you have to believe AO should get the Hart. I have liked Ovechkin since second one, because he definately embodies the term "superstar". He is a goal scoring maniac who you can tell genuinely LOVES to be on the ice whether he is scoring or his teammates and he has many times the personality of Crosby. As someone else had said, if Ovechkin was born in Canada he would get much more attention.

Igor has to be inducted soon. It is the HOCKEY hall of fame, not the NHL hall of fame, and there are few better players who have done more for hockey internationally, and to think most of his best years were spent in Russia
