Yeah, i saw that and loved it! I love the +/- stat and to have that many players from one team in the top ten of a stat that requires both offensive and defensive skill is probably my favorite Red Wings accomplishment so far this year
-
We could have something here... lets see: 1 Shot for each: - Missed shot - Shot taken with open player available - Savardian Spin-o-rama - Blind backhand pass to opposition - Losing the offensive zone when playing the point on PP - Offsides call because of refusal to pass to open forward player - Offsides call because of pointlessly attempting to deke out the blueline 2 Shots for any combination of two of the above (example: Spin-o-rama blind backhand pass to opposition) 3 Shots for any combination of three of the above (example: spin-o-rama shot taken with open player available, shot misses the net) "Died a little Inside" Bonus!: Bong a 40oz. of the Cheapest corner store beer each time he scores a goal and gets that look of extreme accomplishment on his face that screams "yes, I am the single greatest natural goal scorer in Swedish history and I have officially earned my spot on the second line and PP for the next 3 months"

hahaha MY POINT EXACTLY! I'm not saying that Dom did terrible in the playoffs last season, but he wasn't as "stellar" as some posters believed him to be and in the elimination game he was plain terrible. My only hope is to play the consistent, HOT goaltender. I hate hearing how no matter how well Ozzy plays or how bad Hasek plays, Hasek should get the nod. Sometimes I do feel like its 10 years ago, since most people only mention the Vezina winning Hasek and the Osgood that let in center ice shots... I am yet to see Hasek really steal a game, not in last years playoffs and not so far this season. Osgood has taken a few for us, at least one vs. Pheonix last night. Go with the Hot goaltender for playoffs, the one you can objectively say has played better based on this season, not a decade ago. And with his extremely consistent play and solid style, at this moment I go with Osgood, but I agree that its going to be February and we still have another 2+ months to find out whos starting. That said, I know Hasek is extremely competitive and hates to let in goals, but I also feel Osgood is stronger mentally and can get over a goal and not let it effect his play. And I have to admit, it would be nice not to scream at my TV for Dom to get off his back

For anyone else who is as annoyed by the "Is this the year?"

hahahahahahahaha wow.... i really enjoyed that! -
It shouldn't be eliminated, just revamped dramatically. Here's the medicine: 1) Move it to sometime in the offseason, maybe before the preseason starts to get NHL fans back into the game with an event. At current format players are too tired and want time off instead of another two days of work. 2) Abandon trying your best to fit a player from each team in there. Its never going to happen without shafting more deserving players (see: Duncan Keith > Brian Rafalski?) 3) Follow more closely to statistical output rather than All-Star "status". The ASG as I originally perceived it was meant to reward the best players on performance, not career achievement. 4) The YoungStars game needs to go. I don't enjoy it personally, I see it as filler before the skills competition. 5) Sell the game to fans through players not named Sidney Crosby. Mic up personality guys like they did Turco, like they should do Ozzy, guys like Shanny, Ovechkin, etc. Definately doesn't help that everyone from TSN to ESPN has called this years ASG a joke, basically because of no Crosby, few mentioning the loss of Luongo, Zetterberg, Statsny, etc. All-in-all, current format is a joke but the original concept of the All-Star weekend is good and salvagable.

My favorite part besides all the Red Wings considered "Hardware Hopefuls" is the fact that under the same category on the Penguins sheet is a big fat NONE
-
Its becoming almost laughable ain't it? Got NHL 08 and I marvel that the one team that is over the cap in the game is Anaheim because they somehow have every player they had lost from last season and every player they had acquired in the offseason. Who would have thought thats cause its actually coming true, now if only Burke can steal back Penner and McDonald the Busch leaguery will be complete... oh well, c'est la vie I guess

Has anyone watched Barry Melrose's take on the Wings-Ducks game the other night? He should just have a segment called: Barry Hates the Red Wings. It can be a nightly wrap up show of how bad the weak Red Wings are and that winning isn't everything. Check it out.... http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/...91&n8pe6c=2 "This is a message" "Typical message sending" "Message the Ducks sent was more important than wins and losses" Really? What happened to no one asking "how" just "how many"?

And the Oscar for "Best Actor in a Hockey Game" goes to.... I mean seriously, I like how he laid flat on the ice with his arms sprawled out. haha reminds me of playing dead during cops and robbers as a kid. Gimme a break
-
Definately! Me and a friend of mine were talking and we both thought Pronger got the eye gouge in, because he didn't land any really punches, especially after getting off the ice. I hate Pronger. Is there a bigger goony dueche bag in the NHL?
-
If we were talking Mats Sundin that had a couple years on a contract left, I would say yes, or at least a strong maybe. But we are talking about a rental for an up-and-coming defenseman that fits the Wings system and is just starting to get rolling without injury. HELL NO!
-
Why the hell would this make sense..... sons-of-bitchs If it wasn't enough that Hank has to bow out because of his back problem Perry, who isn't as deserving as some others gets the nod from the "Stanley Cup Champion Anahiem Ducks" BUT EVEN more bulls***, is that after not playing all season because of his ***** little hiatis, Scott Neidermeyer gets the invite to join Pronger, no one mentioning btw that Rafalski has had agrueably the best year on the blueline, second only to Lidstrom.... This pisses me off alot. Well Bettman got his big California market players in there....

Anaheim - Selanne Atlanta - Kozlov Boston - Kessel Buffalo - Miller Carolina - Brind'amore Calgary - Phaneuf Chicago - Lapointe Columbus - Zherdev Colorado - Sakic Dallas - Modano/Turco Detroit - Zetterberg Edmonton - Hempsky Florida - Jokinen Los Angelas - Cammallerri Minnesota - Gaborik Montreal - Koivu Nashville - Mason New Jersey - Brodeur NY Islanders - DiPietro NY Rangers - Shanahan Ottawa - Spezza Philadelphia - Gagne Phoenix - Jovanovski Pittsburgh - Malkin San Jose - Reonick St. Louis - Boyed Tampa Bay - Prospal Toronto - Sundin Vancouver - Luongo Washington - Ovechkin

Wings I love (for the most part): Zetterberg Datsyuk Lidstrom Osgood Filppula Chelios Rafalski Holmstrom Cleary Draper Kronwall Hudler Kopecky Lebda Maltby Downey Franzen Drake Wings I hate (for the most part): Hasek (*nearly harmless shot, pointless flop* Great save Hasek! .... still on the ice looking for it.... its in the slot.... come on Dom get up.... GET THE F*** UP!.... please! its not underneith you! GOAL..... *Hasek complains to the ref*) Lilja (I'm actually more luke-warm about Lilja, I think I'm over the fact that he is terrible defensively and now I just enjoy the running joke of him as an enforcer haha) Samuelson (Savardian Spin-o-rama, blind pass to the defender. Looking, looking! He has Zetterberg trailing, open passing lane.....!.... and he puts a shot wide, high and out of play, faceoff in the neutral zone...)

I love the guy, but I gotta admit - Im still surprised.

Hank should get the MVP, because while others say he may benefit from a better team, I argue that the players on s***tier teams get a greater pool of scoring opportunities. Vinny, Iggy, and Kovi are all the near lone gunmen alot of nights. Granted Vinny has St. Louis and Prospal, Kovi has Hossa and Kozlov, and Iggy has Ku and a few others, but no one has quite the defensive ability of Hank and Pav, and you have to give Hank more credit because of his Point per game production and I think he has great NHL "appeal" which in the Crosby age we all know to be ascential. All in all, Zetterberg is under appreciated, as with most Wings because of their overall consistent success. But I think, that if Lidstrom doesn't get the Hart we all know he has deserved for years, than Hank should at least get it, and either him or Pav (personally I think Pav) should get the Selke -
glad someone finally said it! thats been my argument for years. Feds has done next to nothing since losing the Winged-wheel. Not to say that Shanny has had career years since leaving either, but Shanny played with infinitely more guts and heart than Fedorov ever could. Shanahan is one of the best to EVER play the game.
-
Hooray! Do you think we'll be spared a Crosby article or headline for a month or two? The whole 3 Crosby articles and interviews a day got old two years ago
-
wow..... thats some bulls***.... someone needs to show the guy in charge of this decision Lidstrom's 5 Norris Trophies and class and Game 5 of the first round of last years Wings-Flames series, among other Iginla pissing matches... ridiculus... And Lecavlier over Alfreidson? Does this go to show how little respect European players are given?
-
I would LOVE to see Shanny back with the Wings. I don't blame him for leaving and sometimes I believe it for the better with Hudler and Flip coming around and Dats and Hank now being two of the league's elite. But I believe he should retire a Red Wing. I defy anyone to say they don't miss #14 in the Winged-Wheel at least a little. That said, I sadly agree with someone who said there is much more chance he'll either remain a Ranger or retire a Ranger, which sucks... When you think he could take a cut and come back for one more year in Samuelsson's spot....

This would really piss me off, Osgood has two bad games and all of a sudden we would ride Dom? I'm all for riding the hot goaltender, but we really didn't ride Ozzy when he was at his hottest this season, we kept alternating hoping Dom would come around, and he did. I really hope this doesn't happen because I think Ozzy can shake it off and regain form and hopefully get more help from the rest of the team. 2 bad games when his team played absolutely horrible defensively. Remember a year ago when Hasek had two 7-8 goal outings? The sky ain't falling, the team is in a slump as a whole. Notice how the Wings are still number one in the league? Think Ottawa didn't have a losing streak or two this season?
-
AWESOME! Great Wings packed lineup this year One thing that bugs me a lot is the attempt to represent as many teams as possible instead of taking the most deserving. Rafalski got snubbed big time! Second in defense points behind Lidstrom and far better plus/minus than the supposed "no brainer" Pronger. Duncan Keith in front of Raffy? oh well I guess... Osgood, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Babcock, suppose I should be happy
-
Last night was ridiculus and it eventually got fixed to the Dats-Homer-Flip and Zata-Huds-Cleary and worked great. Sammy is a waste of space and I'm sick of the Savardian spit followed by a blind backhand pass to nobody and he can't time or aim a shot correctly to save his life...

Emery's attitude is a great example of that which poisons all other professional leagues but is for the most part rare in hockey. Very "thug", don't give a s***, lazy, wastes of talent. There is a clear difference between being tough and having some serious issues, Emery has one hell of an attitude problem. Players like this are pathetic and always feel entitled, as if they've earned without working and often slack feeling to prove a point. Take it to the NBA or boxing, don't need it in my NHL
-
Hell yeah Ozzy! With everyone talking Dom before the season started I put Ozzy on to fantasy teams and oh boy has he produced! Can't wait to find out if Ozzy gets to get shelled at the all-star game, then I can either keep praising or start bitching, which is what we all look for at LGW OSGOOD is GOOD
-
haha i can almost guarantee Ozzy did that himself, he is always doing goofy s*** when he is on the bench haha funny guy
