Ozzie is effin' hilarious, he should be the #1 goaltender on merit of personality alone

I think when it is all said and done, Lidstrom will end up with a better career than the mentioned Euros, Kurri, Jagr, Hasek.... this because of his absolute dominance of the sport from the defensive end. If his season thus far is any indication, Lidstrom is looking at Norris #6 with more years to play. I do agree with your point about the russians tho... I thought in the big picture Larionov should have beat out Stevens or McInnis for this years Hall of Fame class. This being because it is the Hockey HOF, not the NHL HOF, and I don't believe they put enough stock in what Igor did for the sport of hockey internationally and making way for the Datsyuks and Ovechkins and Kovalchuks. As well as being a superstar both in Russian and the NHL.

Read this and loved it. One of my all-time favorite Wings and its great to see him finally get some recognition, wanted him to start when he was playing 1B to Legace and he was good when he played last year. Definately feels great when the "Ozzie" chant starts at the Joe which it has a lot this season.

I agree with the article. Bobby Orr is definately #1 and Lidstrom #2. Lidstrom's defensive abilities are incredible and effortless. And as far as Norris Trophies are concerned, Lidstrom was overlooked for a long time, and even when nominated and deserving more than others, got runner-up a few times. Lidstrom might not have overwhelming offensive numbers, which takes away from his being seen as the best, but that is also because he maintains defensive responsibility first and foremost, while still being one of the best QBs ever to pass the puck.... lots of argument available on the who best defenseman after Orr part, but Lidstrom is definately the best European ever to play the sport....

Which Wing has impressed you the most this season?

1. Zetterberg 2. Osgood 3. Holmstrom 4. Lidstrom -
Hudler has a great shot and knows how to handle a pass, and has SLIGHT playmaking ability, but the sum of the parts will never equal a 50 goal season. Only the elite in the NHL manage that feat, Steve and Shanny are both headed to the HOF and they each only managed it a handful of times. Hudler will have a few 30 goal seasons in his career, hopefully him and Flip develop a Hank-Pav kinda connection and stay in motown.

Great read, great story. I've always loved Ovechkin, love his energy on the ice and I've heard before he is an awesome guy. Lets see if the Caps will take Hasek for Alex straight up

The only painful thing about the Bertuzzi-Red Wings relationship to me was that it existed in the first place. Hated him long before he became a Wing, almost went on a killing spree when I heard we got him at deadline, knew he was a rental and was glad to see him gone. Played one, maybe two decent games for the Wings and that was it. Since his gooning on Moore which I to this day believe he should have been banned from the NHL for, he has been a Lang for the Wings type, slow floater big body with little physical side. He don't hit much anymore, his hands have deteriation, no speed, and less and less motivation. Hooray for the Ducks for signing him. I see "Big Bert" current contract as his last decent one. He is now injury and defensive liability with less scoring touch and I can't see him making more than $2 mil a season on contracts after this one. Thats my two cents....

I thought the game was called very well tonite except for a few instances. As far as the high sticks are concerned, its been established that a player is responsible for their stick and if it hits high its an automatic. As far as phantom calls, I thought the trip on Rafalski could have been let go, but I think when the gooning started and bodies for flying away from the puck Calgary got lucky on some no calls. The call on Lidstrom on the sort of break was a bogus one because it was flawless stick lifting and I kinda felt like it was just rewarding the breakaway. As far as calling for the ridiculus instigator on Lilja, this is definately an example of why it shouldn't even exist. Hudler passes the puck, Phaneuf is already on the warpath and has a guy a great deal smaller than him lined up and its definately an instance where most Wings would have pulled up, but in the Flames goon mold, Dion gets up nice and high and takes advantage. Lilja was completely in his right to drag Dion off the bench if he had to because a player has to be held accountable for his actions on the ice. Don't be fooled, there were a lot of missed cheapshots and hits away from the play, and even as the game was closing, as usual in a losing effort and to no surprise to me, Iginla started crosschecking backs and slashing legs of players like Zetterberg. But, also to no surprise, he got away with it just fine.... Ho Hum. Great game on the Wings part outside of a few sloppy breaks. Datsyuk was a genius. Osgood 11-1-1

Well said... Happy Birthday to THE Chris OsGREAT

I'm sure he'll keep 51, and I hope he does.

who the hell is voting for HASEK?! he shouldn't even be on the radar, but he is third in voting for goalies. Does a name carry him that far?! We need to get the votes up on Rafalski, he is producing his ass off

Front page NHL.com has a great article about the Swedish players in Detroit. Lot of stuff from Shanny praising his former teammates (liked the Pain Train alot, go figure). Good Stuff! http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=page&a...rticleid=343891

Its based so much on name, reputation, and what they did last year. Same reason why Hasek, though he has played like dogs*** all year, is on the ballot, and Osgood, the supposed 2nd string, isn't on the ballot. In the same way, the Sens were supposed to ride Emery all year, and Gerber has shined.
-
Last year Shanny wasn't voted to start either. Thats all the voting is, for the starters, then the NHL fills in players accordingly. Though Shanny has had a rough go of it since the concussion stuff last season (outside of a great playoff), it would be good to see him wearing the "C" for the East
-
Definately the best way to do it, start with a young star like Zetterberg or Datsyuk, they'll be our next guys in the "Steve and Shanny" roles as team leaders, Rafalski and Lidstrom are good choices too, Rafalski being on a nice long contract and from Michigan and #5 because he is Niklas "mother effin" Lidstrom

Thats the point, some people refuse to believe there is a problem with Dom because once upon a time he was a 6 time Vezina winner. The playoff run last year was not solely on Dom and through the last stretch, the elimination game especially, Dom played shaky as hell. My point is to live in the here and the now, and if we continue losing more Division match-ups than winning, we are in for a big surprise come the spring..... Please someone present an argument not involving Hasek's past success, I've heard about the Vezinas a million times already, and the slow starts argument. I suppose we'll just keep losing with Dom in goal and enjoy his one cup on a stacked team and the Vezinas and Harts he won elsewhere....

Probably MacLean, but whats to stop Chelios from screaming the loudest?

I haven't personally been effected by it yet, but I definately understand what you mean. I hate how every team in baseball hovers around .500 and a team that wins half of their games is a playoff contender. But then again, I hate baseball all together
