The Red Wings outshoot their opponents night after night, they're defense, while it didn't play the greatest game last night as far as odd man rushes, worked hard to stop them before they became anything. Some people saying wanting Dom to take a back up role is stupid because of his slow starts or that "its just 1 game" But here are the facts: Dom is used to seeing 15-20 shots a game and GAA nearing 3 Dom as a starter is 5-3-1 in 9 starts, playing on a dominant team in the NHL Dom has a save percentage of 86.9% (the worst among goaltenders) Dom has seen an average of 20 shots a game, 37 goaltenders have seen more shots Ozzie's GAA is 1.58 (third in the NHL) Ozzie has a record 8-1-0 to start the season and plays solid as hell Ozzie's save percentage is 93.1 (seventh best in the league Ozzie has seen an average of 24 shots a game How do you look the facts in the face, and say to stick with Dom and that Osgood is the "backup"? How has the defense played worse in front of Dom, considering shots on goal? I ask again, for all the stick with Dom believers: How many losses merit reconsidering the distribution of starts? How many bad performances in sharp contrast to excellent play makes one reconcider the "starter"? How long do you plan to give Dom to shake off a slow start? When is the goalies play and preparation the goalies responsibilty? Are we really going to stick with a goaltender as a starter in fear that he'll throw a tantrum and retire? How many times have people ridden Osgood for not even terrible play, but shaky games? Are these people now defending Dom for what can only be called horendous goaltending? And finally, the question I've asked numerous times: When is Dom going to play poorly enough, and Osgood play well enough, for people to finally notice whats right in their face?

Haha yeah, my first vision is the plane spinning and hydroplaning across the runway, the whole time Pavel's face in the window screaming, plane tips over sparks, and all but Lilja and Cleary without some injury (just another black eye, no problem), and Mickey comes and picks everyone up, says "thats why I don't fly anymore"

haha I know, just pointing out how crazy some people are when building up Dom and bring down Ozzie, think they watched the '98 cup run video too many times. Osgood has stepped up this season, Dom should step down. Quit pandering to Hasek's ego and taking losses because he is the "starter", I'm not saying don't play him, and we do need him to get better, but in a back up role, whether he likes it or not. If he decides to bail out there afterwards, whatever. Hockey is a great sport because of the blue collar, Dan Cleary types, not because of a 42 year old goaltender that can't do his job anymore but is kept in a starting role to accomedate his ego
-
Hasek ain't the best at controlling rebound (or anything) these days either, but in Dom's case by the time the rebound gets to the opposing player's stick, Dom is already 3 feet out of goal, flat on his back.

i wish he had looked for more money elsewhere, Osgood-Howard sounds better

Are you Jesus? Is the rapture seeing Dom in goal? THANKS FOR THE VID!

I'm hoping we FINALLY and SERIOUSLY address the "starting" goaltender issue after this game. Dom couldn't stop the first scrum goal. The others were ridiculus. The second goal looked weak as hell, the third he just let trickle on him, and the Meyer goal, though a rocket it was, please don't tell me you just let in 4 goals on 11 shots and in one period!? The Wings played horrible after that because they were deflated, you don't have a 2 goal lead turn to a 2 goal deficit in 10 minutes and keep your head up. Though Ozzie didn't face many shots, he had to make some great saves to make a comeback possible. Ozzie hasn't had a shakey game all season, whereas whenever I hear Hasek is starting I feel doubt creep in like an elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about. This isn't about the 90's and this isn't about "slow starts", we are nearing the 20th game of the season and Hasek has proved to be nothing but s***, carrying it over from the last game in the Western Conference finals last spring. Go with the hot goaltender. And no, I don't care anymore about the logic that if you don't play Dom he won't get better. Past the 1/5 mark of the season with pathetic play like Dom has shown so far in contrast to the tremendous play of Ozzie, "s*** or get off the pot" time is about over. Every shot on goal tonite I expected to go in on Dom, he just looks shaky and the first Perron goal was just sad, and the biggest relief all night was after the 4th goal when Babs talked to an assistant and gave Ozzie the nod. I'm pretty sure Hasek still gets credited with the loss, since the game winner went in when he was between the pipes, right? THANK YOU When is Ozzie's play gonna be good enough and Dom's play going to be down right s***ty enough to finally consider Osgood the #1. "But Osgood once let in half ice shots", "Dom won 6 Vezina trophies".... is it 99? If so, I'm gonna party like it is.... hopefully my hangover is remedied by some Tylenol, little hair of the dog, and seeing CHRIS OSGOOD in goal Poor Hasek, he faced a whole 11 shots..... its a crying shame.....

Looks like we are doomed to never hear Pavel's broken ass english.... thats too bad

this is ridiculus, and I say it everytime the bigger nets argument comes up. It makes no sense and bastardizes the game, and for what?! Haven't there been enough changes to "open up the game"? Teams are playing better team defense and goaltenders (bigger pads aside) have gotten better. A great game might not mean a lot of highlights the next morning, I know Bettman and other hockey hating nazi's don't understand and think that every game should be 6-5 and maybe replace the 3rd perioud with a shootout all together. I hate the thought of changing the game thats been great for near a century, a game that evolved naturally before. Like others have said, every goal there afterwards would need an asterisk next to it...... F*** BIGGER NETS

haha thats good to know at least, if you watch the Igor Larionov farewell game DVD he is pretty slick about dodging the camera there

BUMP.... no one... really?

Great going Hank. Can't stop. Won't stop. Ah Uh, Ah Uh. haha sorry, that was just funny

Datsyuk and Zetterberg are exactly what we need to win the cup. What is misguided is the usual thought process that what we have isn't good enough. Last year the Ducks didn't win the cup, the Wings lost it. We have the tools and then some, and if you would want to f*** with the mix thats meshing right now to bring in Lecavlier and think that a cup would soon follow, then I just feel bad for you. Have a little faith in the team we have, they have rarely given you reason not to. I love our team because its a team of WORKERS, skills or not. Vinny is great and all, but I would much rather have Dats or Zata anyday.

This pisses me off, but Its proof of the unpopularity of Hockey in the U.S. mainstream that us rabid hockey fans don't understand. A guy needs steroids to sit in a cement bunker and wait to swing a bat three times, personal salary: 75 million Guy works his ass off a whole game, hitting, finesse play, speed, goals, team conhesion, fighting, team salary: 42 mil Sorry for baseball fans out there, but I've never understood its extreme level of popularity compared to hockey's low visibility. Funny how most people who post argument against hockey that I have met at least, have never watched a hockey game, EVER. People are ignorant and I don't see it changing when you turn on SportsCenter the morning after an insanely busy night of hockey (damn near every team playing, highlights galore) and instead you spend an hour watching 100 home runs that look the same, talk about A.Rod not coming back to the yankees, check in on T.O., some basketball highlights which seem selected at random since no single basket carries much significance until the last five minutes, and then they wrap. No mention of hockey and a league called the NHL even existing outside of the ticker on the bottom of the screen. I have to cut myself off because this topic will forever get my blood boiling, but you get my point....

Eric Lindros, bust or biggest bust ever?
b.shanafan14 replied to BringHomeTheCup!'s topic in General
Great hockey player in his prime, good enough statistically to carry a PPG that high after about a decade of injury. Bust? Not in regards to production. But I can see how, looking back at a guy like Lindros' career and seeing that he retires at 33 (I had to go back and double check that, couldn't believe it) you could believe him a bust. But overall, calling him a bust is unfounded. Look at Forsberg, much as I dislike the guy he was amazing, but injuries have now grounded his career and he'll probably never play again. One of my arguments for Steve Yzerman in the all-time greats department is that of all the things he did over his career, he did the bulk on one knee, not to mention countless other injuries (and defensive play, etc. don't get me started). Lindros is definately no bust, great player hampered by injury and still carrying the load statistically in his career as a whole. That said I don't think I would see him in the HOF, but as someone else has mentioned, if Cam Neely is in there, Lindros should definately be in there God I hope you're kidding..... -
I agree, pretty Yashin-like if you ask me... I would much rather have a young guy with infinite potential then someone who would opt out of a shootout if the wind ain't at his back

Hudler and Filppula are definately starting to get rolling and I'm still glad as hell to be rid of Lang, I'd much rather have two developing young stars who are both defensively responsible. I like that Huds and Flip are playing together this season so far, they are starting to get rolling, with Filppula starting to regain his level of play from last post season. Hudler doesn't need Lang, and the idea is a bit ridiculus. Hudler is better off developing chemistry with someone like Filppula, as their line develops confidence together you can already see them start to produce plenty, which is saying alot on a team with a productive line like DZH. Much rather see Hudler develop his game on a line with a young guy like Flip who is probably our third best player on the boards, behind Dats and Hank, as opposed to Lang's Dump and wait at the Blueline for someone else to get it style of play. As far as Hudler not being a playmaker in his own right, I have to disagree. I believe already this year we have seen both Hudler and Filppula make great individual plays. But like Peanut butter and chocolate, sometimes whats good on its own can be even better together AKA "You got your Flip in my Rex; You got your Huds in my Val"

I think we'll see the big name players we always do, along with some fan favorites, and fillers for bottom of the barrel teams, deserving Red Wings like Rafalski and Holmstrom will be left at home for bums from Nashville, Pheonix, and half the Rangers line up (who as of this point aren't deserving).... all-star weekend is fun and all, but in the end, Bettman sends who Bettman wants, just ask Chelios As far as Dom last year not going and Turco going, despite some numbers: Like it or not Turco is a more solid goaltender these days than Dom is, he just has worse D in front of him. Dom is getting old and injury prone, it would have been a bigger risk than anything. And on top of that, not only was it in Dallas, but Marty Turco is a very charismatic guy as it is, you could have never had Hasek Mic'd Up the whole third period like they did with Turco

I totally agree, while Joe had a few cheap ones in the playoffs last year, I dismissed it because it was nothing major and it was playoffs. But last night, as much as he was in the box, he got off SOOO easy, kinda makes you wonder: If it wasn't Joe Thorton, would there have been more reprecussion, maybe even beyond the game last night? He slashed Zata countless times, was trying to run Cheli all night, broke a stick cross checking him, face washed everyone on the ice outside of Al Sabotka, pulling off Dats' cap, (insert other general goonery).... I thought it was pretty disgusting to tell you the truth and while at the time they think its their way of getting even when they are playing s***ty, in the end, they just look like goons. I definately think a minor fine, or one game suspension to Joe just to send a message that that isn't to be tolerated. Had me furious last night that he only got 3 trips to the box, they should have ousted his as when they noticed that all he was on the ice for was to rough up our players, this wouldn't have been the first time refs have taken such action, but i think because its Big Joe, a superstar, they don't want to lose trading card sales

I love Centet Ice Online, they still have some work to do as far as how long it takes them to upload games on-demand, but hopefully I don't have to spend the whole season waiting a week to see a game again/i missed. As far as the video rez, I don't have a problem with it, when I am on Campus I watch full screen while I do work, and when I'm home I run S-Video and Y-audio cables (combined $30 at Best Buy) from my laptop to my TV and I don't really notice the difference between that and regular cable feed. I definately suggest people look into it if you spend a lot of time elsewhere and don't want to miss a game, or if you want the games on-deman feature.
-
hahaha sounds about right.... hopefully Center Ice has the FSN Detroit feed so I can get my Mick fix for the week
-
I went to GVSU for 3 years so I had FSN Detroit, but now that i'm in Wisconsin I have Center Ice online, works great since I practically live on campus so I can watch Wings game on my computer. When I'm home, I run a S-video and Y-audio cables from my laptop to the TV and watch the game clear like it was on cable. Definately couldn't live without it. Only problem is that it is apparently brain-surgery for them to get the already played games available on demand anytime within the first week or two they are played, and I've been waiting to watch the 2nd and 3rd periods of the Sharks game.... probably Gary Bettman cutting back on tech people, and spending their checks to pay Chelios spies...

I feel that many people are committed Hasek fans, which is fine, to each his own. To me Dom has always come off as a bit arrogant at times. Some may see it as a competitive streak, and sometimes it is. But I do think that a lot of people have the Mike Babcock way of thinking, with the "this player is better despite resent/consistent performance". Look at how long Hudler got sent down to GR or next to no minutes when he would be great when he was in there. Yes, Hasek has flashes of brilliance when he is flopping around kicking puck. But his play at this point of his career is not sufficient for success. This season, yes, very slow start, but if there is anytime to win games, its early in the season. Osgood may not be brilliant but his a extremely consistent and is rarely flat on his back, which is a chronic problem with Dom. In the elimination game last playoffs, Dom played horrible, like a cardboard cut out, gets hit with the puck, falls flat on his back, 1 or 2 times a good 5 feet away from the goal. I know people think you can't ice Dom because he won't get better or that he is still better than Osgood, definately welcome to their argument and opinion, but mine is this: When is Dom's play gonna be bad enough and Osgood's play gonna be good enough, to consider Ozzie for a greater role?
-
My point exactly, if Dom plays soft like I feel he did against the Ducks last time, on the first two goals especially, I believe you give Osgood a start and a chance to win the spot.... just my opinion
